  • Train Guarding is now possible in train sim world 3 with the new Glossop route. This new DLC takes us from Manchester to Hadfield via Glossop, using the class 323 in Northern Rail branding.
The on Guard scenario that we will be playing in this video allows us for the first time in Train Sim World to act as a fully function train guard / conductor with dispatch and ticket checking functionality.
We will have a full playthrough of the scenario and I will give you my thoughts on it as we go along.

I would like to see them add it to the timetable mode that would give players more freedom with it

Hi Richard, as you state it is an interesting concept and agreed somewhat limited in it's implementation. My real world reference point being that of a passenger on trains and witnessing guards checking/selling tickets. My experience is that guards walk through the length of the train and check tickets (commonly asking "Tickets from ????, Please") and when arriving at stations they use the door control panel at the nearest passenger door (not going back to the rear cab each occasion). More widely varied checking of tickets would be Adults riding on a Child ticket, using an Off-Peak ticket during Peak hours, travelling with a ticket purchased with Railcard discount without a railcard (and also time restrictions)...
With regard to simulations I am measuring against Bus Simulator. In Bus Simulator tickets are sold and you (as the driver) need to work out change to be given for fare and cash tendered. You can do random ticket checks and also challenge passengers for listening to loud music etc. (even though "Quiet Zones" do not exist on buses BUT do on trains). The one element of requesting a passenger to stand clear of the train which would most commonly be a request to "stand behind the yellow line" did fail as there were no yellow lines on the platform (other than at Piccadilly)?!
So sadly my personal assessment is "Could do Better"...
Visuals looked stunning but then DTG do chuck everything at that experience during Scenarios - I remember how impressed I was by "Christmas Closures" on GWE where you left Slough in low winter sun and as the journey progressed towards Ealing Broadway the clouds intensified and snow started falling (and this was before Dynamic Weather was a feature of TSW).

You make a fair point. I guess it’s upto DTG how much they wish to go down this road and what features they want to implement. So much could be done with it, but I guess it comes down to whether it is worth the time effort and system resources to do it.
With regards to guards using local door control panels. It all depends on the type of rolling stock. Some stock can only be operated from the rear cab.

Can confirm it’s very accurate to IRL ,trains at this time are always rammed, loads of ticketless travel and the PIS barely ever work.

This is so cool, I'm a guard in Australia and I don't think there is enough recognition for guards and what we do! It would be great if they added in a guard mode for when you're driving, so you could receive Rightaway etc. :)

    • @DadRail
      @DadRail  Před 11 měsíci +1

getting the RA from a virtual guard whilst driving is something that I have wanted for a long time.

@@DadRail It would be so much more realistic.. in saying that on my railway the driver controls the doors, but I would still like to receive Rightaway from the guard...
Interesting I noticed in the UK they shorten rightaway to RA whereas we use RAW

Glossop line is notorious for fare evasion, having worked that route as a Conductor a few years back you get used to the fact of it. Also there is a middle door control in middle carriage but looks like that's not been implemented which is a shame

I wish they added more working buzzer codes than just clear to leave. Maybe the close door one from the driver if you take too long just standing there. Maybe they'll add it later down the line

Can you perform that duty from any set of doors… since you have the key with you? Merseyrail trains have that facility.

If you confirm a non valid ticket then you won't receive any points. Notice that when you confirm the valid one then you receive points. That is the difference.

Being from Florida, This feature doesn't really interest me. It should be put in the services in my opinion. I have never even been on a real train, Like most Americans, Unless you live in New York or California. That's the only passenger trains we have. I think it's a good feature for some. We have limited Amtrak, But it's not a continuous service like Europe.
