- Professor Randy Pausch made a surprise return to Carnegie Mellon University to deliver an inspirational speech to the Class of 2008 at the Commencement ceremony on May 18, 2008.
Pausch was included in TIME Magazine's 2008 list of the world's 100 most influential people. His book, "The Last Lecture," co-written by Jeff Zaslow of the Wall Street Journal and based on Pausch's now-famous talk "Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams," is a New York Times #1 bestseller.

He just gave us the secret to a happy relationship. You should probably not get married until you meet someone whose happiness is more important than yours. It's makes so much sense. Both parties should whole this sentiment as true. It will be the glue that keeps you together. Thank You Professor Pausch.
My personal hero. My Obi-Wan Kenobi. It's a shame he was gone only 2 months later. A really genuine heart-felt good person who loved life.
What a man! My heart reaches out to Randy's family ...
To his kids: know that your dad inspired a million ... thank YOU!
Proud to be a Carnegie Mellon alum ...
"We don't beat the reaper by living longer, but by living well, and living fully - for the reaper will come for all of us. The question is: what do we do between the time we're born and the time he shows up. Because when he shows up, it’s too late to do all the things that you’re always gonna, kinda get around to.It is not the things we do in life that we regret on our death bed. It is the things we do not. " so inspiring~!!!
Quincylucy hey cute
After much torment and lament ... today this is what's important.
I was one of the students sitting down there at the commencement ceremony.
how was he as a normal person? i mean, besides the lectures and the media atention?
Sorry, this was commencement of the whole university in May 2008. I was not in computer science department, so I had no chance to talk to him in person.
Awesome man, wish I could have met him.
i cant lie for all the bs there is on the internet the little moments i get to share with videos like this make everything else so worth it
I always cry like a little girl when I listen to professor Randy Pausch.
Rest In Peace Randy Pausch.
Glad I found you Randy, RIP
It's 2022 thank you randy pausch for the inspiring message
still one of the best commencement speeches every. Be Brief, Be Brilliant, and Be Gone. He was brief, he's brilliant, and now he's gone. These grads should feel so fortunate to have had him speak at their commencement. So very lucky.
A remarkable man, with a wonderful outlook on life. We need more like him.
You can chack out Sandeep Maheshwari Sir ♥️
RIP...so much respect for Mr. Pausch.
Prayers and love to his family and friends.
This guy sums it up peefectly. An absolutely beautiful speech.
Truly an inspiration, a great man. I hope he gets all the days he deserves.
I'll never forget how Randy taught me "Brick walls are there for a reason. It's to keep people who don't really want it."
I stumbled upon Randy website by accident. I watched his last lecture at Carnegie, via Google video, and i was definitely inspired by his great speech. A great a example of a man who was taken too early, but still managed to live a longer life them most of us will ever dream about. God Bless Randy - Im inspired!
University of Toronto Student
Oh my God, he was so wise and full of comapssion, it is such a pity that you had to leave this world Dr Pausch, but then again you might have been an angel and God wanted you back.
But you planted the seeds in our hearts and for that we will be ever thankful. Your time on earth might have been short but your legacy will live for ever. God bless your soul. THANK YOU.
I feel deprived to have never met this man, and feel such pain to know someone like him has such a short time left. What a great human being! I have bought several books and his Last Lecture DVD to give to others. He is an inspiration and I feel the need to share his story with as many as I can. God bless you, Jai and your beautiful children. You will live on in many hearts. Aloha
The world has lost a great, great man in Randy Pausch. Rest in Awesome, Randy.
Everyone live, laugh, love, and love hard!!!! What an inspiration to mankind. He will be missed.
I love Randy Pausch but hadn't seen this speech until now. Great!
Randy is indeed one of the finest human beings that we have seen.
no one knows how much wisdom comes from so much suffering.
R.I.P, You've done so much for us. He will live forever, if we live our child hood dreams, and living well.
Still love this. I have watched it almost a few times a year since sophomore year of college. 🏆
Nobody dies! I believe in this. And Randy was given a lesson - We don't have fell fear of "passage". And we have live with all passion possible in our lives! Peace and light of God in your heart & soul in eternety, Randy!

This never gets old. Dr. Pausch had it right. Quality of life is superior to quantity of life. Once you figure out what your passion is, pursue it fully while remembering that people are the greater investment than material things. God bless that man and his family.
There is less goodness and greatness with you gone. Godspeed, Dr. Pausch.
I'm sitting here applauding! Live every moment as if it were your last. One day it will be. BIG fan of Randy!!!
Rest In Peace Mr Pausch...You inspired millions, including myself
RIP DR. Randy Pausch. You've really inspired me in a way not many people have been able to.
This is the only lecture that needs to be heard. The man was a true living Saint and is now a guardian angel to us all.
I've read the Last Lecture and watched all his speeches. My mom has pancreatic cancer so I am well aware of his fight. He is teaching people not how to die but how to live life to the fullest. Inspirational man. Thank you Randy!
Rest in peace dear Doctor. You are one of the most inspiring persons I have read and watched... you have tought us that following our childhood dreams is something that requires courage... and sometimes other paths seem to be easier...but do not fulfill our souls the same. God bless you Randy. You are not alone :)
I'm deeply saddened by the news. I was just checking his site the other day for updates & seen where he wasn't doing well but still holding onto hope. For Randy:You outlived the doctor's expectations & you saved many lives. Ill never forget the letter that man wrote to you. He wanted to commit suicide but decided not to, he realized that he took everything for granted, while you took nothing for granted. Long live your memory Randy, the inspiration you gave others, and the lives that you changed.
I don't know if many people could say those words and make them have such an impact on me. Great guy.
It's really nice to see that someone took Dr. Pausch's advice on apologizing appropriately. That just goes to show what an inspiration he is to everyone.
RIP Randy. You will be missed, and remembered always as a guiding light for dreamers.
Randy Pausch is the most incredible man!His love for his wife is so beautiful....how happy I was to watch this video.
May Randy have many more days with his family!
He's touched so many lives all over the world!Thank you, Randy!
Well he accomplished what he wanted to get done. Those are gonna be the proudest kids in the world when they grow up hopefully they turn out half as good as their father was. Great man, great legacy. He got it... It's never about YOU it's about the ones you leave behind. Remembering that will keep ya honest. RIP Mr. Pausch
Rest in Peace Randy.
Thank you for your intellectual inheritance and your efforts to give us what life so harshly taught you in your last steps.
I could say that I admire you. You and your passion for life.
I like what Randy Pausch has to say, for the most part. What's there to disagree with? It's his life and he chose to live it the way he wanted. He's not telling anyone how to live rather sharing his experience with others. His message is simple and elegant and I admire him for keeping the hocus-pocus religious stuff out of it.
He doesn't "sound" inspiring, he IS inspiring. So many people are diagnosed with cancer. Some need inspiration to carry on and fight it. However, he serves as an inspiration to people like me who are perfectly healthy as well. I am so grateful that there are still people like Randy Pausch in this world to serve as a reminder of how beautiful life really is. It's a reminder that i'm fortunate enough to have a great life and that I should make the most of it every single day.
that kiss was LEGENDARY!
Just finished reading the book The Last Lecture....wow....a story about a professor dying of cancer....with a wife and 3 young kids.....talking about childhood dreams...talking about living.....everyone needs to read this book...you will cry....you will be sad....but in the end you will be....Happy....Randy Pausch's story will make your life better...if you have kids let them dream....if you still have dreams...chase them....get over the wall!
The guy still gives people hope even after years since his death! :)
made me cry. He was so inspirational. He is now where he belongs with God. If you havent seen his last lecture please do it was just as inspiring, if not more so.
Jai, my heart and prayers go out to you and the family. What an amazing person...
What a great man. The world needs to listen to his every word. If only he could have lived life beyond his years. He would have made a great president and inspired a great nation and world. How unfortunate we are to have lost him. I hope the world is kind to his wife and children for surely they deserve so much and have lost so much.
randy
you have always inspired me with your speeches and lectures
i will never forget you

never get tired of watching this.
I stumbled upon his book the last lecture by error but im glad i did. he is an amazingly inspirational man who can give a valuable life lesson to any man. If u haven't seen his vid on the last lecture, you tube it and i'll warn you, have a box of tissues ready bc at some point, you reflect on your life and realize how much better you can make it. by doing some seemingly insignificant thing. In the end that thing, makes your life all the better.
:)
may his soul rest in peace.
this is even better than his last lecture. at the end, he truly knew what was important.
What Dr. Pausch has achieved in 47 yrs wud be difficult to achieve in 470 yrs too for most of us & its not his acad or intellectual achievement that is important here (though those r incredible too in their own rights), but the peace & wisdom with which he connects to his surrounding, the generosity he oozes out at the most difficult times, he reminds me of those saints & mystics who were beyond the cycles of life and death, the ones who hv achieved immortality - Randy is one of those rare fews!
what a hero... no matter who thinks differently
Randy, you are so down-to-earth when you speak, yet you always inspire. You deliver the kind of simple truths that won't dawn on us until much later: Finding that person whose happiness is more important than your own is what love is really about. It's a verb; it is the act of giving, sometimes sacrificing, but putting the needs of other(s) ahead of your own. Thank you for fighting your cancer while sharing whatever you can and want of this experience with the world.
The Last Lecture is one of the best books I have ever seen published.
The best way to honor a man such as this is to follow his advice! and he does have great advice! I followed my dreams, made mistakes and failed, but I to am at peace with them.. because I tried! My biggest regret is giving up on a dream.
Randy, you are a lengend!really appreciate your inspiration.God will take good care of you.God bless.
Tears rolling down on my face.... What he said is absolutely correct and it takes someone like him to make all of us aware of the very fact of life....
ur great Randy Paush..you still inspire many..rest in peace
So inspiring. R.I.P. Dr. Pausch
Thank you Professor Randy Pausch
I cannot watch him without crying...
May he rest in peace, he is really a great guy.

"I am so grateful that there are still people like Randy Pausch in this world...."
Let it be known that I acknowledge he is no longer with us, but I am expressing how it is refreshing that in my time for my generation, that there are still people like Randy to inspire. I know he is gone now, but he most certainly made a difference in many lives, including mine.
I wish he will live longer. RIP Randy Pausch
I would trade places with him. Knowing how much you have left puts everything in perspective. Most of us are just drifting away.
Damn. And the world is going to lose a man of this caliber.
Dr. Pausch, you will be missed by so many. But your words will be eternal.
Randy's lectures always draw such emotion from people.
Rest In Peace Randy Pausch. May God bless your family.
