- The often hated yet very anticipated vet visit. Max doesn't know what the word "vet" means he just knows he hates his carrier.
The vet reevaluated his levels from being sick a few months ago. He let max walk around the room a half hour just to watch him. Max FLEW up on the cabinet and walked around while we talked. Max got his nails trimmed. And a clean bill of health.
I also told the vet about their referral vet and he said he would have her name removed since he is the owner of the practice. He also had me give the front desk Max's Facebook and CZcams information so they could all watch him.
I feel like Max has 3 different personalities: "Hiiiiiiiiiiiii," unrelenting screaming, and ominous grumbling

Max was a child who wished to a genie to be turned into a parrot so he would not have to go to the dentist ever again.
Little did he know, parrots have to go to the vet. He's really pissed about it.

Just so people understand, this is not a fear response. It's just a cockatoo being petulant and throwing a tantrum like they are known to do. Max is not afraid; he's just being a brat.
He’s not being a brat...he’s being a 2yr old. Parrots are 2yrs old all their life!
Cockatoos are high strung birds that need lots of attention and patience from their humans. That's why they are the most frequent species to wind up in a parrot shelter/rescue. That's because their humans grew tired of their neediness and no longer wanted to devote the time and effort it takes to keep them in captivity. One reason I like watching Max's channel is because it doesn't try to hide the difficulties that go along with taking care of this particular breed. On Max's channel, Dan shows the good, the bad and the ugly aspects of Cockatoo caretaking. It's not for the faint of heart. It's not even for the average person. It takes a devoted person to keep them in good physical and mental health.

I've kept birds for over twenty years and have never seen one that makes a bigger fuss about getting into a carrier than Max! Wow you have your hands full well and truly with Max Dan. Lol. On a serious note I'm glad the vet has given Max a clean bill of health, it's reassuring after his last health scare.

The man that first had Max used a CB raideo alot & this is what Max remembers. He is very intelligent.
The next man that had Max just wasn't into all the care that has to be done and when Dan watched Max for awhile they really bonded. Then back with the man again Max wasn't doing well at all cause he really loved Dan.
The guy didn't want Max but made Dan probably paid a pretty penney to save Max. Dan read up on how to take good care of a Cockatoo and he's been doing an outstanding job of it ever since.
You can see it in Max's eyes the love he has for Daddy Dan & you can see how much Dan loves Maxwell baby bird.
We love them as well. We are lucky to get to spend time watching that sweet bird & the funny things he does.
as much as Max makes me laugh. watching you Dan stand there with your arms crossed reminded me so much of a typical parent trying to have the last word with a child and not winning lol

That boy is nothing if not emphatic! There's not much that will get a full-on laugh out of me these days, but Max has had me in tears at times, and when Dan joins the party (they are such a perfect double act!) all hope is lost and I know I'm going to be annoying my neighbors for a while. It's impossible to stay quiet when they really get going. I have to be really careful about which videos I watch if it's getting late.

Oh max you are such a baby. I am sure your daddy gives you plenty of love and treats when you get back from the vet. Dan props to you for being so great with him. I use to work for a bird sanctuary/rescue and so many bird parent can't handle or refused to give the birds they have the proper attention they need. Keep up the loving and care you give to max.

I imagine you have to wake up quite early on Vet days! I know Max is distressed which is really unfortunate but at the same I can't help but belly laugh at his indignation!

I used to have a cockatoo just like Mr. Max. his name was Ziggy and he had been abused. He was given away and given back several times.
The home I got him from had him in a dark basement.
We would spend about an hour making elaborate Lego towers just to have him tear it apart in 5 minutes.
I miss him so much and seeing Max is very bittersweet.

I never thought Max would ever out do the first video of the vet visit, where he is at the top of the stairs under the shelf. But now, I think he has topped that one. This video was definitely worth waiting for. LOL Max is such a little stinker.

judging from Maxwell's sad past he has PTSD. however, because of Dan's unfathomable love and devotion he's getting so much better.
I'm sorry, but could you tell me about his past? I'm kinda new here...
I think the original owner made dan watch it since he had to go away from his home for 6 months, but Max grew attached to dan, so when he gave him back to the original owner, max began to freak out (which caused the hitting the cage thing)
Max's original owner was an elderly man who had passed away. Someone Dan knew bought Max off of Craigslist. The guy went off on a construction job for 3 months, and had Dan take care of Max. During that time Max bonded with Dan. When Dan gave Max back to his actual owner, Max would scream all day. It got so bad Dan had to visit Max every day to calm him down. Eventually, it became obvious that Max had bonded to Dan and would not accept being owned by anyone else, so Dan bought him and the rest is history. A happy ending for Max and a lifelong friend for Dan.

From someone who watched this the first time around and am doing so again five years later, I thoroughly concur.
Watching older videos (the everyday ones, not the vet/carrier cacophony), it's heartwarming to see how much closer they've grown. They clearly adored each other at this point, but Dan's patience, devotion and thoughtfulness over the years seems to have deepened their bond even more. It's a beautiful thing to see. Love them both.

Love how Max totally looks for the interaction to 'talk you out" of taking him, and does know he succeeds in other aspects. I would be curious to see if he still does this at 54!
He doesn’t seem to yell and have fits as much anymore, which must be a nice reprieve and give you some satisfaction that all the work you have done with him is paying off
I watch video's of Max over again with my wife Anita, we both just love Max. Max arguing with Dan about the carrier is so funny!

My extended family is over for thanksgiving and i had to show them this as we surfed funny videos - max had us all crying tears of laughter. he is so cute when he is throwing tantrums and now we all walk around imitating him!

Wow, he sure does not like to go in the carrier. What is he like when you get there? Is it easier to get him back in the carrier to go home? I love how vocal he is about the trip. Does he try to bite you when you put him in. Thank you for sharing, he is a truly remarkable parrot, you have an amazing relationship with him.
He's only like that at home when he leaves the vet he willingly walks into the carrier I've seen Dan say this lol and judging by the pics at the vet in one of his vids id say once he gets there he's calm again (pics of the vet holding him in a towel)

This is adorable! And basically like raising a toddler quite honestly. 😝 My advice would be to maybe either take him to the vet more frequently so he doesn't necessarily immediately associate it with a bad thing, or give him more carrier time. He might spit in your coffee for it later, but tell him you're going to Disneyland!
