What Tequila Should You Buy💰? The Different Categories of Tequila

  • There are five types of tequila within specific categories - Blanco (Silver), Joven (Gold), Reposado (Aged), Añejo (Extra aged) and Extra Añejo (Ultra-aged). There are two categories of tequila - 100% de Agave, and Mixted (Mixto).
➡️ Tequila that is 100% de Agave is made with only the sugars of the Weber blue agave. Tequila, commonly called Mixted (Mixto) is made using 51% agave sugars and 49% other sugars. Each of the tequila categories has distinct characteristics described in this short clip.
➡️ UPDATE!!!!!!!!!! We didnt mention Cristalino during the filming because it was just arriving to market, but we wanted to give some information about it.
Cristalino is essentially añejo, or aged, tequila that has been filtered (often through charcoal) to remove the naturally occurring colors it picks up from spending time inside the barrel. The filtration process strips the color and some of the tequila’s woodier notes without removing the rich flavors and textures imparted by the barrel.

I get the cheapest Tequila Blanco, put it in fridge for five hours, and take one ounce shots at home. Goes down smooth and two to three shots will get you "buzzed", but the Beauty of it, no hangover, ever.
You can do the same with Vodka and White Rum.
It is the sugar and chemical additives that give you, the hangovers.

This is only the second of your videos I've seen.
    Thumbs up.
I like bourbon but but hate the hype.
A few years ago I was buying some tequila for my Dad.
A clerk recommended a Olmeca Altos. Highly rated and more reasonably priced than "name brands" like Patron or George Clooney's deal.
I completely agree with your guy in preferring Silver over Reposado.
    I haven't had a good extra anejo.
Silver is basically white whisky and what people now call "commercial" moonshine.
Just unaged spirits from a different mashbill.
I don't think silver is that much harsher than reposado but surprisingly I get more complex tastes.
If you have a chance, give Altos "a shot".

Skip the mixtos, and stick with Agave. Age of the Tequila is personal preference, but I buy blanco to mix and anejo to sip. You can also skip the best known brands. I really enjoy Alteno and Agavales, two less well-known brands that are of very good quality, especially for mixing, and they are great in a margarita. El Jimador Anejo is a great value for sipping or straight up. It is possible to buy great Tequila without paying high prices.

Hey Jon, you seem you know a lot about tequila, recently started to make bar for me and fiance, we've made up our minds on all basic spirits except tequila.
Neither of us drunk it before, so we bought very cheap one, tastes horrible, wonder what better to get for mixing (Margarita and Long Island Iced Tea, for start - when I put this cheap tequila into Long Island, I could barely taste anything else).
Could you advice us ? The ones I'm considering, are available and wont break the budget for learning purposes are Jose Cuervo, Pepe Lopez (cheapest one of them, im guessing not), El Jimador, Sauza, Olmeca (preferably not Altos which is quite a bit more expensive, but if thats the only one worth of them, I guess there is no other choice). All blancos, I think.
      Thank you :)

    • @joniszard2340
      @joniszard2340 Před 3 lety

@@peterkadlecikjr.2807 I like El Jimador too - it has a little extra 'bite' to it, but if you can find them, the Alteno or Agavales brands are two great values in blanco tequila, and all I ever mix with anymore. Sauza is ok, but it is not the value it once was. You can do better than Cuervo, but it is a safe choice. I don't know Pepe Lopez or Olmeca. There is a lot of cheap crap out there, and a lot of expensive stuff that is just as bad. Always look for 100% Agave.
