    I’m a Ford guy (don’t know why) I’ve lost all hope in their competence on designing timing chain systems. They’ve been having these issues since 1997 when they started sohc motors. With every new model year I always assume they must have fixed any previous timing set issues, then a video like this comes along. Shake my head again!

    I think our 2018 has the cam phaser problem but ours is very quiet compared to yours. August 2018 build. 23K miles. I've read reports of people taking their trucks to the dealer to get the problem fixed but some still experience the sound after the dealer replaced a bunch of things including all 4 cam phaser units. Sounds to me like a design flaw that will always have problems no matter what you do.

      Entirely possible. And certainly design flaws are involved. But don't quit bringing it in (as frustrating as I know it is!). Make Ford pay for it! You spend too much of your hard earned money on a truck like this, to live with defects.

    The 2.7 is built better the phasers on the 3.5 seem to have some issues I have the 2.7 it's so quiet and smooth plenty of power and I'm at 23.9 mpg imo the 2.7 is the best engine option Ford has

    2016, 130k miles, no auto start/stop. good idea for gas bad idea for engines life

    • @mattwagner8965
      @mattwagner8965 Před 2 lety +1

      Auto start stop has nothing to do with the phases it's about the oil pressure after it's been sitting for a while if Ford did a longer crank to bring up oil pressure the phaser wouldn't rattle. If ppl did a flood mode for first start of the day if would solve a lot of ppls problems.
      Ppl who don't understand engines are bad for engines

      @jblaze114 Před 2 lety

      @@mattwagner8965 yeah I thought about it after I posted it, once the engine is warmed up and the oil is everywhere the auto start-stop is not a problem

    Cam phaser?😆😆😆🤦🏻‍♂️good lord waaaaaayyyy off. Ecoboost is known for chain rattle (that’s exactly what I heard) at start up. In most cases doesn’t ever break or harm anything. You’ll notice most Toyota’s have start up chain rattle too. Takes a few seconds for the oil tensioners to get oil to them to push on the guide rods
