I have so many things i like to do that sometimes it is overwhelming when i do have time, trying to pick . And if i think TOO hard i risk doing nothing. BUT i have learned to just start on any old thing, because it doesn’t matter. Momentum will occur, it always does, especially if i have no plan. Sometimes i will pick up an old project i have set aside. Old projects are sometimes the best choice because they are often already written off, so there is zero pressure to create a masterpiece.
Today i opened a mystery ziplock bag of leftover quilting scraps with some pieces already cut, but no pattern to follow, no real design. I often do that, i save interesting things, almost like a little kit, a surprise grab bag. I had forgotten how pretty the fabric scraps were. It was pure joy. I had a lot of fun practicing piecing on a machine i was unfamiliar with. I made mistakes, but i got better on the machine, i solved some riddles, and in the end, i had some success too.
As the day progressed, I found myself thinking, as i busied my hands, of more creative ways to incorporate my art into my sewing. Maybe some freehand quilting? Maybe painting on fabric and using stitching overtop? Maybe stitching first and then painting over? My little brain was free as i happily stitched away. So, i had fun creating and honestly can hardly wait for morning so i can pick up where i left off. I straightened up just a wee bit, but left my six or so pretty, slightly wonky squares, all laid out on the table, with a few other bits and bobs to consider incorporating
we will see what happens. I feel like i am on a toboggan when the snow is a bit sticky and the hill isn’t very steep, but i am finally starting to slide! All because of a little treasure bag i created awhile back, and set aside for my inner artist child.
Thank you Kelli for your generous and kindhearted words of wisdom and encouragement. We are listening and progress is being made. One foot in front of the other. With many small changes, we will plunge back into art!

This is an interesting one, but I think it’s really true. I really miss taking art classes and getting feedback from likeminded artists and being inspired by each other. I don’t really have any other artists in my life right now 😔 It makes sense that I am struggling to create.

I created a study buddy situation online across the ocean plus it was with a writer. If you’re lucky enough to find a study buddy who is on the same page more or less in their commitment and not afraid to be accountable to some kind of timeline etc
. It lasted over 8 months. Thats good considering it was almost daily some weeks.
