വര്‍ഷങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് മുന്‍പ് ഒരു പത്തു വയസ്സുകാരന് മേയ് മാതം എന്ന തമിഴ് ചിത്രം കാണുവാന്‍ ഇടയായി. ആ പത്ത് വയസ്സുകാരന് ഗായകരെപ്പറ്റി വലിയ അറിവ് ഒന്നും തന്നേ ഇല്ലായിരുന്നു. പക്ഷേ ആ ചിത്രത്തിലെ 'മിന്നലെ നീ വന്തദേനെടി' എന്ന ഗാനം അവന്‍റെ ഹൃദയത്തില്‍ സ്പര്‍ശിച്ചു. പിന്നീട് അവന്‍ ആ ഗായകന് ആരെന്ന് അന്വേഷിച്ച് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്‍റെ എല്ലാ മികച്ച ഗാനങ്ങളും കേള്‍ക്കുവാന്‍ ആരംഭിച്ചു. വളരെ കുറച്ച് നാള്‍കള്‍ക്കുള്ളില്‍ തന്നെ അവന്‍ ആ ഗായകന്‍റെ വലിയൊരു ആരാധകനായി. ആ കാലം മുതല്‍ക്ക് അദ്ദേഹത്തെ ഏറ്റവും പ്രീയ ഗായകരില്‍ ഒരാളായി അവന്‍ മനസ്സില്‍ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ച് ആരാധിച്ചു. പിന്നീട് അദ്ദേഹത്തിലൂടെ അവന്‍ പ്രണയഗാനങ്ങളുടെ മാധുര്യം എത്രത്തോളമുണ്ടെന്ന് അറിഞ്ഞു. കാലങ്ങള്‍ക്കപ്പുറം തന്‍റെ പ്രീയ ഗായകന് ആശുപത്രിക്കിടക്കയില്‍ ആയപ്പോള്‍ അദ്ദേഹം എത്രയും സുഖമാകട്ടെ എന്ന് അവന്‍ പ്രാര്‍ത്ഥിച്ചു. പിന്നീട് ദിവസങ്ങള്‍ കഴിഞ്ഞ് താന്‍ ആ ദുഖവാര്‍ത്ത കേട്ടപ്പോള്‍ സത്യമാകരുതേ എന്നവന്‍ ആഗ്രഹിച്ചു. ഒരുപാട് മാധ്യമങ്ങളില്‍ വന്ന വാര്‍ത്തകള്‍ വീണ്ടൂം വീണ്ടും വായിച്ച് നോക്കി, കുറച്ച് മണിക്കൂറുകള്‍ അബദ്ധവാര്‍ത്തയാകും എന്നവന്‍ കരുതിയിരുന്നു. പക്ഷേ പതിയെ അവന്‍ ആ സത്യവുമായി പൊരുത്തപ്പെട്ടു തന്‍റെ ബാല്യ കൗമാര യൗവ്വനങ്ങളെ മനോഹര സംഗീതം കൊണ്ട് ധന്യമാക്കിയ ആ ആലാപന മാന്ത്രികന്‍ മണ്മറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു. തിരികെ വരാനാകാത്ത ദൂരത്തേക്ക് മറഞ്ഞുവെന്നറിയാം, എന്നാലും ദൈവമേ ഇദ്ദേഹത്തെ തിരിച്ചു തന്ന് കൂടേ. മറക്കില്ല ഒരിക്കലും. ജീവിതത്തെ സന്തോഷഭരിതം ആക്കുവാന്‍ ഒരുപിടി നിത്യഹരിത ഗാനങ്ങള്‍ സമ്മാനിച്ച അതുല്യ ഗായകന് പ്രണാമം. ആദരാഞ്ജലികള്‍ എസ്പിബി സാര്‍.!
