I love japanese festivals, how they keep traditions going for years and years, it amazes me how the kids are also involved in the process, you can find little kids, teen and elderly people all united and enjoying themselves

Chikaさん, I was SO SURPRISED to see Keisuke in this video. I was an English teacher at 茅野市の第3高校 when he was a student-teacher! Now he's a full-time teacher there and I'm in Ibaraki Prefecture where I teach at an 英会話 and recommend your videos to my students.
Small world! Such a great surprise to see him in your video. It really made my week. Thanks for that, and for making the festival look so wonderful!

That was AMAZING! I don't know why, but I started crying when that little girl started singing. She was adorable. So much power in all of those people working together got me all emotional, I guess.
Chika, thanks for taking so much time and effort to make this video. It is so well crafted, and I know how difficult that is.

Been going through people's Onbashira video posts trying to find myself pulling one of the pillars! I was there for both Shimosuwa and Kamisuwa Yamadashi portion of Onbashira! I was one of the very rare non-Japanese Shinto pilgrims that came specifically for this.
It felt honored to be invited to even just be pulling after the pillar falls-- because I told quite a number of people I came as a pilgrim and well ... next thing I knew, I was given rope and was suddenly pulling a huge pillar behind me with everyone else. As apparently one of the first non-Japanese pilgrims. So I am forever in gratitude for Suwa's hospitality and generosity in being invited. (I didn't know if I could at least pull-- I was there to watch and then well, I got more than I bargained for!). So haha, yeah, I'm going to be trying my best to return again in 2022. I felt close even though I came from so far (Virginia, USA) and with a gigantic language barrier.
And I remember the stoplight fail at the Kamisuwa side next to the overpass on the way to the river crossing. I was confused going "really, it's ... it's *_stuck_* with _that_? You all done this for how long and _how_?" But somehow they rearranged us at the pulling side and managed to get the pillar through. All in laughs and fun.
Nevertheless, I have enjoyed your commentary and your video! Thank you for doing this!

In the Philippines, there's the Pagoda Festival. A cross is set on a pagoda, which is then put the sail down a river. The festival usually draws in soo many people from around the country, and unfortunately resulted in the drowning of several hundred at one time.
