my dear melancholy, - the weeknd, first reaction/review - Zábava
Heartless being the first single after this album was perfect. The way privilege ended with him saying I'll be back to my old ways and him repeatedly saying that in heartless is just full circle
And the red pill to take the blues away. After hours using the color red thematically throughout with the red coat etc.
Also Heartless was the first song he did after MDM
@@rama-rao-y8u I never noticed that until just now and I’ve listened to both tracks hundreds of times.
@@dropthealbummike8713 well technically he did lost in the fire
The crazy thing is he only took 2 weeks to write and produce this ep
Dude is so creative and has such a creative team. I’m sure his next album within the next yr will go insane as well
Because Gasseflstein had like 3 of the songs already finished on his own, as a music producer. It's what makes the industry move fast. They have music stashed on their computers like if it's their proof of weddings done in their wedding catalog to show their potential costumers. You have to stay prepared as a producer, wether its showing your catalog to an "Artist" or creating a song from scratch for the artist on the spot. Weeknd didn't produce any of these instrumentals lol. These are all Gasseflstein's signature sample pack drums, synth sound design, and way of producing for years. Weeknd just had every part of the song structured perfectly tailored to his vocals. He just felt the emotion of the music and poured his heart out on these masterpieces of Gesaffelstein. Great Music Producer , great mixing engineer, and Great singer, of course. And together you got this great album. It's never your favorite "artist" making everything lmao
@@ilikethatboulder.thatisani5496 what??
@@ilikethatboulder.thatisani5496 he sang some of the lyrics to “try me” at a show in 2014, but rhat’s it.
He was going thru alot😢
This EP was my life for almost a year in 2018. This whole EP is about Selena Gomez and Bella Hadid. So every song is personal to him
*”I Was Never There” is my absolute favorite song of all time. This entire EP came out the exact time I was going through a pretty heavy break. Each and every word from that particular song was said beautifully. Summed up exactly how I was feeling at the time. Gawd damn*
Same here 😢
Ye since it came out its always my most listnened song on spotify and by far my fav song. and it hurts me to see all these recent trashy remixes of it.
Same!
Privilege is one of the best of his songs and it’s still so underrated….I love this
Glad u enjoyed it, it is my personal fav (Also pls relisten to trilogy)
4:00 Call out my name
7:06 try me
8:49 wasted times
10:49 I was never there
13:13 hurt you
15:04 privilege
🐐 XOTWOD
Thank you for your service
Thanks mate
watch his Coachella 2018. He dropped this on April and played it first time live at Coachella. You feel his pain in that set
i can relate.
the day it came out me and a buddy was listening to "I was never There".
told me i looked like my dog died. it was just that good of a track.
😂😂😂
Love how slowly you see them turn into a xo fan
She can’t resist lol.
I like the idea of reacting to trilogy, starboy, and after hours!
Your reaction at 5:37 is all of us!!! You need to watch his music videos in their release order cause he always completes the album story with the music videos, especially After Hours. I like to know what you think of the story he is trying to tell. Keep it up; you're doing fantastic!
P.s: Due to Selena's Lupus Diagnosis, Abel possibly wanted to donate one of his kidneys to save her life. ("I almost cut a piece of myself for your life")
this ep literally does break you if going thru a breakup. it's such raw emotion. i was never there is one of the most sadly crafted vocal parts. one of the greatest components in his discography. severely underrated, under-discussed release. i had a short-lived phase of getting high, just weed, and i was listening to this and the sadness was not only magnified but it was like, handed to me and put in my heart. i felt it so deeply. you can hear in his voice, he's really singing what he's feeling and feeling what he's singing. it's sincere. it's gessaffelstein producing and he does use that classic 90's westcoast synth but much louder than traditionally. hear his track hellifornia for reference, which is a sore thumb on the album it's from. but yeah, more or less the same sound. it's not weird that you want to give him a hug and make sure he's okay 😂 it's really that dark and sad.
its prolly my favorite song of him. i really started to follow theweeknd in '18 after my breakup and ngl it was not a good idea to listen to this
Privilege is actually my favorite from the EP, would just get lost in it and the opening and closing just hit different. The lyrics heavily apply to me so I guess that’s why
Privelage and Try Me are my favorites
@@chucky123rvlsame!!!🎉
Every album of weeknd is a godsend, I have never seen a singer without a bad song
Gesaffelstein & The Weeknd 🇫🇷🔥🇨🇦
Fun Fact the song "Wake Up" From Travis Scott's Astro World was originally from MDM but he gave it to Travis for his album, I love Abel's feature in that song.
NO WAY, I’m kinda glad he gave it to Trav for ASTROWORLD. It doesn’t really fit in this at all but it’s still in my top 3 for that album 😍
Wake Up was perfect on Astroworld, definitely didn’t fit MDM.
There’s no way that’s true, that song is too upbeat to be on MDM
When you got to “Wasted Times” I literally said, “OH MAN” 😂 one of my all time favorite songs. By him and in general. And I agree, the reason I love MDM, Kiss Land, and Trilogy so much is that raw emotion in his vocals. He’s unreal
It is criminal that no one mentioned this and kissland. It low key feels like he enjoyed making those two projects just like he did when the trilogy pieces first came out.
I would love a relisten of Trilogy and After Hours
Agree 💯
Yes
Call Out My Name is one pure painfull flex by Abel. One of his greatest songs of all time and of all time in general.
11:55 this EP came out the day after my ex and I had broken up and let me tell you, I was looking like the album cover lol
mdm just hits different, its a masterpiece and a goated ep!! up there with after hours, kissland & trilogy and imho beats all of them if youre in the mood for something melancholic
He released this album at a time where i really wanted to just end my life worst time in my life was trapped in such a toxic mind state.. i couldn’t hear after 2 tracks & let the dark times pass than after 2-3 years now i can appreciate the tracks & what a masterpiece he made.!!
After Able and Selena broke Able wasted no time writing and produce this Ep in a month and it’s a masterpiece
I've caught myself watching a lot of reaction videos and I must say that I like how professionally you start and explain your thoughts throughout the video. Keep it up!
Edit: And if you decide to relisten After Hours I recommend watching the music videos because they are incredibly well made and make you feel like you're apart of the world.
''I was never there'' is my fav song from Abel. One of the greatest RnB songs ever. This is the perfect ep to listen to, when you're driving at night.
This EP helped me through my worst break up. Forever greatful
Lol, I can definitely relate to the face you make when you feel the song. I hardly watch movies anymore because of musicians like this who are able to create such a vivid and immersive experience with words and sounds.
When reacting to albums watch the music video because many of them have meaning correlating to the album story you don’t have to actually put the music video on screen due to copyright but watch the video on a separate screen so you get the full immersion of Abel Music
The weeknd's songs are hard to listen without listening the entire album
Not really.
I would love to watch your reactions to rest of his discography, first listen or not I would enjoy your reaction
Back to this video a year later i cried so hard after my first ever real break up after listening to this thank u for reacting to this amazing ep
At 4:39 the line was about Selena's organ transplant where weeknd was supposed to give his own and just another stop was Selena at the time was found hanging out again with Justin Bieber and they left again so yeah she did Abel dirty
The whole EP is about his breakup with Selena and Bella which he dives deep into more stuff in After Hours album.
For music videos per era, my recommendations would be:
Trilogy - The Knowing
Kiss Land - Belong To The World
BBTM - The Hills (HM: Tell Your Friends)
Starboy: Starboy (HM: Party Monster)
MDM, : Call Out My Name (HM: He Was Never There, Docupoem)
After Hours: After Hours Short Film
Dawn FM: Gasoline
This project is up there for me, probably #3 if you count trilogy as one project. Definitely continue with the relistens.
LETS GOOOOOOO
if you’re going to do a re-reaction of albums you’ve already heard of, you could create a tier list of his songs or go about explaining what you think each song means
I agree that thhis album being so looked over is a crime, I love the production on this album so damn much. The lyrics are arguably the most potent as you said and it feels like the perfect weeknd breakup album. (I feel making weird, kinda out of place faces when listening to music. :) It just shows the art hits you like you said and thats awesome!)
I love her reactions it really she really expresses how The Weeknd makes me feel ❤love it
Love the reaction bb ❤
First time I watched the video but cameback a second time to just listen, and you sounds like a radio special while I listen by a beach at night
I think the review after you’ve reacted to an album is a good idea especially for The Weeknd considering a lot of his songs are growers 😊
This album was excellent and put together very quickly apparently. Considering how raw the lyrics were it really shows.
My favorite project was probably his mixtape series "Trilogy" from his early days as an indie artist for similar reasons.
the monthly recap is a good idea !!
Yes i agree to all the points u said in the beginning u should go for it i will be there to watch everything
Yes. Definitely react to Trilogy, AH, and BBTM again, and yes the videos of you can 🖤
i think you should do it in order
went through a break up the day before this ep was released and it became the sound track of my life for MONTHS so much emotion behind these tracks
call out my name always gets me emotional
YESSS THANK YOU ❤️
Going through the headache for the music videos are worth it I think they add a lot to the listening experience!
9:22 These two projects mean A LOT to me. Glad you recognize their greatness 🎵
Listen after hours again...the production is craaaazy
Such a great reaction!!!
Definitely do a monthly roundup
you listening to every album is a masterpiece
Facts💯
It definitely would be nice to see you react to those Weeknd albums you’ve already heard before. It definitely does help to not listen to those albums for a while so that when you review them again they feel a little new again. Loved your reaction AND your kissland reaction. Kissland is a hit or miss for some people so I’m glad you liked it personally one of my fav albums
Yesss do the videos, especially after hours, it follows a storyline
I just finish watching the other 2 Weeknd videos then this one pop up i was having a shitty day but your reactions make it better;About the lyric at 9:58 well i don't know if you know about Abel personal life but he is talking about Bella Hadid she was an equestrian before being a model.
The Weeknd put this out right after a breakup and seeing him crying during his first performance of call out my name at coachella was insane
Call Out My Name is just so special man
love your reactions to abel keep ‘em coming :) btw Guy-Manuel from daft punk produced the third track
yes to ALL of that. also your hair is fucking dope!
Call Out My Name on first, second, third, infinite listens just hits so hard every time. It leaves you speechless.
All of the ideas you set out at the start are something id be intrested in watching. However, if you choose to react to the music videos I would suggest watching the After Hours era videos seperately becuase of their expansive world building that i think deserves thier full intended runtime. Also, I'd quite like you to look into relistening to Starboy since its an album I find people consider quite a departure from the rest of his discog. Plus, id love to see a teir list of maybe even your opinions of each era of The Weekns releases in line with your old for content (love the billboard video BTW!! :)). All sounds intresting!! Keep up the awesome videos!! Dogbless
This channel is tremendous bro
Just for context this album was about Abel and Selena Gomez they had a nasty break up and this masterpiece came out of it so every time you relisten to music from this album you now have a face to put to who he was pouring his heart out for
wasted times and hurt you are about bella
Only call out my name is about Selena. It’s pretty obvious the rest are about Bella
@@skoopiey exactly….I don’t get why Selena’s fans think all 6 songs are about her 😅
@@kelllsss2534 they're all about Selena Gomez except wasted times. if you listen to the lyrics like in try me he says how I kissed your scares and fixed your heart
@@kinyuapeter278 let’s say it is, it’s obvious privilege and hurt you are about Bella. You can’t compare a 5 year relationship to months when they both went back to their ex lol
You really should do the monthly recap, yearly too
11:42 I went through a break up when MDM, originally came out… it did the opposite for me, it gave me strength. I’m one of the OG fans so for Abel to be going through similar to myself was comforting in a way. I felt his pain and mourned his loss along with him.
please please please do trilogy!! also yes call out my name is one of his best songs. he performed this at Coachella a couple yrs ago and was crying as he was singing during the chorus it was incredible. i saw went to his after hrs till dawn concert a couple months ago and call out my name was one of the best songs performance wise imo
I loved this reaction.
A video of you revisiting Trilogy would be great!! I also feel like he has enough features and other singles out (Enemy, King Of The Fall, etc.) that would be worth listening to and throwing together for a video!
Watching the reaction, definitely excited for you to listen to I was Never there
hurt you is probably one of my fav ep on mdm.
Idk if you know of quadeca but his music is some of the best thought provoking stuff that I’ve heard from an artist. He recently dropped an album about afterlife and death and it’s really deep and I’d love to see you react to that type of music
Ur soo pretty!!
All the songs of this EP are masterpieces, my personal ranking of MDM songs❤️
1- Hurt you
2- Call out my name
3- try me
4- I was never there/wasted times
5- I was never there/wasted times
6- Privilege
Same
All of The Weeknd 2nd, 3rd and 4th listen!
I was waiting for you to get to I was never there and I could see the surprise when the second half hit. I was like mmhmm yup
That pain face when something almost universal. We feel you trust me.
You could react to a bunch of music video in one video. Although that's truly upto you how you'd want it.
Call out my name and I was never there in concert was soooooo good my god 😂 I almost died. His live vocals are dang near better than the recorded version
I think a reaction to the after hours til dawn TOUR would be unbelievable, he’s such a performer live
5:37 anyone with functioning ears collective reaction:
TRILOGYYYYY
Ayyyyyy let's goooo!!!
This dropped around the time my ex and I broke up and it was incredible. Really had me in my feelings, but not in a depressing way surprisingly. My love for the music and how well it fit in my life overtook everything. 😅
In order pls
a relisten to the rest of his discography is a great idea :)
This ep was released the day before the anniversary of my ex and I. This ep will always be the one for me
If you react to after hours again. Please include the deluxe with it
this is ep is amazing
I wanna hug Abel too! He seems like a guy who needs one sometimes /:
I was never there . The sirens for help . Damn that shit helped me thru my breakup
My favorite abel album, no misses
Beautiful reaction to beautifully dark album
"Fuckin incredible" is an understatement
You should set up a patreon so we can get the full album listens with you. Curious if that's something you have thought about doing?
I definitely needed a hug after I heard this EP. Not sure how the weeknd did it 😢
You gotta listen to Echos of silence mix tape. That shit's lit 🔥🔥🔥
Abel content is a cheat code 😂
