That's because back then sitcoms like this were worth doing for big stars who were also fans of the shows. Fresh Prince had great writing and acting and was a big hit so no surprise the amount of great stars the show had. Sitcoms today can't say the same to where only "stars" who are desperate for an easy check will do them.

Not many people would be on a show for a cameo like this. Most stars at his level are too self absorbed and think too highly of themselves.
Tom Jones didn't have to say, 'Don't you know who I am?' before appearing on that show.
That's because back then sitcoms like this were worth doing for big stars who were also fans of the shows. Fresh Prince had great writing and acting and was a big hit so no surprise the amount of great stars the show had. Sitcoms today can't say the same to where only "stars" who are desperate for an easy check will do them.

@@jrsmith1998 No, but there were some big stars who looked down on doing television no matter how big the show was or what network it was on because Tv was considered to be second class after movies. So it was a big deal whenever big stars would appear on a tv show, especially a sitcom which says a lot about the greatness and popularity of sitcoms like Fresh Prince, Married with Children, Living Single, Seinfeld, Golden Girls etc. to get such talent to come on and have fun.
