      just flashed a fake 750ti into a gts450 with original bios found looking at tens of gts450 PCBs on google. asus and palit bioses would produce an image free from artifacts, but after installing the drivers and running some benchmarks, it always ended in a bsod. then i searched all ofl the gts450 manufacturers until I found Gainward, which had the bios chip in the same position as mine, although different pcb color. it worked! I went through 2 different benchmarks with no sutters, artifacts whatsoever. very happy now. I didnt purchase the card, but I purchased a whole computer on ebay and found the card lying inside. the chip programmer didn't work too well, i tried flashing the bios many times but it kept giving errors. after many attempts it finally went through. from the first flash with the ch341a programmer on I used nvflash. anyway happy weekend to all of you.

    Hey Phil, great video! I've got what looks like a variant of your fake GTX 960 4GB. Mine has a slightly different PCB layout, different fan header, but I confirmed the chip is the same GTS 450 as yours. I'd be interested in how you got the BIOS to flash on this card, and any dumps you have would be quite helpful. I've got some viewers who would like to see this card working properly.

    • @philscomputerlab
      @philscomputerlab  Před 6 lety +1

      Good morning from Australia! The modded BIOS can be found in the description! Hopefully it works for you. These 4GB cards are the worst, as the fake memory will make games crash as soon as they go over 1GB of VRAM usage. So the BIOS has to be modded. But I head mixed reports, so this card is to be avoided and going after 1GB fake cards is better as no BIOS modding is required, they work well out of the box.

    You had to buy a kit to re-flash it? That must be one stubborn bios! Usually you can flash it while installed in the computer. That reminds me of my Asus EAH 6850. Completely bricked it thanks to Asus giving out corrupt files. The first one for bios #1 was a 6870 mod, since physically the two gpu's are very close. It failed, I tried the fix and didn't work. So I left it like it was and used the 2nd bios. A new bios update came out for the 6850 (Asus download). Re-flashed it, card died. The thing that sucks was this was only a year after the card was released, so it was a big investment for me. I ended up having to toss the card, I gave it to my programming buddy and he couldn't get it working.

      And, no, the hardware itself is not fake, it's a genuine nVidia gpu and the ram is real, if I'm seeing correctly on the fake card in the video, it's even Samsung GDDR5 ram, it's just misreported. The PROBLEM with these cards is that they report to the OS that they have, for instance, 2GB of graphics ram and they only have one, and that they have a 700 or 900 series level of features when they only have a 4/500 series set of features. If you flash the bios and install the proper driver, you have a perfectly fine low end card that you can use for some older games.

    Thanks. I had a problem getting this at first. I thought I followed the instructions but couldn't get it right. I took a month break from it and came back to it and figured out that the bios chip on the GTX 550Ti (that was labeled as a GTX 970) was located on the back of the cards.

    How did they lock the BIOS? One possibility is that nvflash freaks out over something unfamiliar, so you have to use a hacked version of that. Another possibility is that they did something with WP line of the flash IC, so just hooking it up again could help flash the card in situ and without additional hardware.

I have bought the programmer and the clip which are on the way. My question is: gpu-z tells me the bus width is 128bit (while the 550ti has 192bit). Can my card be a GTS450 instead? Will the programmer software tell me that the bios is not compatible with the card or I will just have to try different ones until it works? Thanks a lot!

    i bought a card for $20 from a guy who said it was a Chinese GTX 650, but when I got the card it actually has a sticker on the back that says it is a GTX 750TI 2GDDR5. Of course, I pulled the white, dual fan cooler and see the chip is actually GF116-400-A1. I can't read the number on the tiny 8 pins chips to determine the BIOS chip, but this is obviously a 550 TI.
