I didn't think anyone would go to this much effort to try and get it working with original drivers, great job man. Brilliant Job!
Thank you, I couldn't have done it without the community ,someone always knows something :)
PhilsComputerLab Phill
I came into 10 of the fake GTX 960s
Did they successfully flash back to 450s for you?
Budget-Builds Official I wouldn't but it's cool to watch lol
just flashed a fake 750ti into a gts450 with original bios found looking at tens of gts450 PCBs on google. asus and palit bioses would produce an image free from artifacts, but after installing the drivers and running some benchmarks, it always ended in a bsod. then i searched all ofl the gts450 manufacturers until I found Gainward, which had the bios chip in the same position as mine, although different pcb color. it worked! I went through 2 different benchmarks with no sutters, artifacts whatsoever. very happy now. I didnt purchase the card, but I purchased a whole computer on ebay and found the card lying inside. the chip programmer didn't work too well, i tried flashing the bios many times but it kept giving errors. after many attempts it finally went through. from the first flash with the ch341a programmer on I used nvflash. anyway happy weekend to all of you.
@@mexicancartelboss1641 no not really its not as simple as a driver install they have delibrately made it hard to do so
yknow, the big tech youtube channels had videos about UBER computers with core i9's and gtx 1080 ti's in sli, and they had coverage of the new amd apu's, coverage of the pricing of gpu's due to crypto currency crashing, but this. THIS video means WAYYYYYYYYYY more to me then any of the top trending uber mega computers. This is truelly and utterly unique information that is helpful for gamers. Well done!
Agreed. Actual usefull information rather than pom pom waving marketing drivel. I appreciate Phil's effort very much.
Yaaaaaaaaaa I loved your determination to get this done & a big thanks to the community for pitching into the effort. That's awesome! Did you experience crashes after you flashed the 960's BIOS? I had a feeling that's what caused the issues initially but a confirmation would be great. Awesome stuff phil! :D
OzTalksHW :D Yea that modded BIOS changed the RAM back to 1GB and no more crashes.
I hope it doesn't crash. That would make me a bad BIOS modder :P
You're a god.
CatSay you need to start your own channel id love to learn how to mod a gpu bios and re program system files etc...
@CatSay is a scammer thats why ;)
This is such a detailed video Phil. I love the lengths you go to fix such a specific issue.
Putting in the man hours to get free retro GPUs. Great job
Thanks, I'm glad I can tick this one off and move on :D
Hi timmy joe
What an effort. Writing directly onto the eeprom, nice work mate!
And kudos to CatSay :).
Hmm free gpu? Why not!
@PhilsComputerLab i have been noticing heaps of these fake cards on ebay even from Aus sellers. Its disgusting how eBay is allowing this crap. Thanks for the awareness Phil!
Hey ! the moment you talked about modding this fake cards bios i though ... i hope he does a video about it. And now here it is! Thanks Phil
Awesome! Glad it worked out for you, and didn't require desoldering! Keep up the great work!
Yea if I hd to do soldering, I would have given up and moved on...
I'm pleased to see how well flashing these cards worked in practice. I find having a hardware programmer invaluable if you are messing about with older PC parts -- being able to recover from a bad in system flash is a very nice ability.
Thanks for the video, Phil!
Thanks for helping man!
Ed Neil, Kudo! thanks for helping
Is there a way to check,if the firmware fit ?
Or just flash until it boots right?
find out the gpu chip, download some bios until one successfully flashes, install it into the computer and test it with some benchmarks and games. make sure you get the bios with the correct amount and type of memory though @@DuneRunnerEnterprises
your channel is way way undersubscribed...keep up the good work Phil, you are a VALUABLE resource
Great work Phil, Many Thanks for all you do
HI, I hop you see this comment. I work with computers for a long time, a few years ago i got a lot of friends scammed by buying fake graphics cards
GTX 650 that was an 9600GT
GTX 750Ti that was 550Ti
GTX 680 that was an 8800GT
GTX 660 that was an GT 440
Some card had on the box ATI and Nvidia Logos, one of these cards was advetised as GTX 550 (550 only, not 550Ti) the actual card was an ATI Radeon X1550.
I remember that these card had the Vamery Brand on
What about gtx 1060 3gb ??
@@MarstJohnson official scam by nvidia
> gtx 550 that's actually radeon
That's the bizarre crossover i wanted to see: maybe tricking 750ti as amd?
I have fake gt630 and it was 9800GT. The brand's name is Prototype. I would like to flash it tho
I would like to see this be sort of a revisited topic maybe every couple of years to see how the Ebay/Ali Express scammers have changed their tactics. Great video!
Thank you so much for this video, I've been interested in this ongoing for a while. It's good to know we can use these proper with a little bit more work.
Hey Phil, great video! I've got what looks like a variant of your fake GTX 960 4GB. Mine has a slightly different PCB layout, different fan header, but I confirmed the chip is the same GTS 450 as yours. I'd be interested in how you got the BIOS to flash on this card, and any dumps you have would be quite helpful. I've got some viewers who would like to see this card working properly.
Good morning from Australia! The modded BIOS can be found in the description! Hopefully it works for you. These 4GB cards are the worst, as the fake memory will make games crash as soon as they go over 1GB of VRAM usage. So the BIOS has to be modded. But I head mixed reports, so this card is to be avoided and going after 1GB fake cards is better as no BIOS modding is required, they work well out of the box.
Thanks! I'm definitely curious if this will work on my card. czcams.com/video/FdH4EfXQ-1A/video.html Here's my breakdown if you want to compare the boards. Same heatsink and fan design, Same GTS 450 v2 chip as well., but some slight differences to the PCB.
Great work, and I'll let you know how my re-flash goes.
Cheers!
Good luck, hope it works out! It does look pretty much like the one I have. The 550 Ti was much easier to fix, used an Asus BIOS, and that sorted it out :)
how did it go? @@CraftComputing
@@philscomputerlab Hi!, i know that this was some time ago, but i have the exact same card with the same layout, cooler, pcb color, exactly the same card, i see that you said that the bios file is in the description but i don't find it anymore, there is any way that you can upload it or give a link? thanks!
Help i bought a GTX 1080 ti for 10$ but it appears to be a RTX 2080 ti
How to fix
FLEX TAPE
Flex glue
Flex spray
@@costelli1 does it even work on the water? :D
Yeet it out of the window! the RTX 2080 ti is one of the WORST GPUs out there. I don't even know why NVidia sill sells this shit. My recommendation is to buy a Radeon 3870. With it you can run pretty much every game on full 2 FPS!!!!1!!11!!
Excellent people coming together to fix these cards and get one over on the scammers and can’t wait for the next card video well done😀subbed👍🏻
Glad to see you got them corrected Phil!
all the downvoters are scammers :P
Malice min Right!
GPUs in 2019: did you just assume my chipset?
I'm torn about this. On one hand, it is great that you are showing people how to repair the bios on these cards so that they show exactly what they actually are. On the other hand, this is encouraging people to support scammers who are selling fake hardware.
I really like how you and others are smart enough to do this. That's awesome
Nice man good job
Man Phil, good work. I don't know why someone would down vote this video. It would be nice to get an explanation from the viewers that didn't find this video topic awesome. I guess it really could be the eBay scammers! LOL
For the same reason why people draw thomas the tank engine porn.
There are so many humans out there that is certain that you will find weird people that downvote for weird reasons.
Maybe someone with a weird downvoting fetish?
Humans are certainly weird, especially with their porn. I've heard about Pikachu porn but Thomas the Tank is a new one. Man, the internet makes me feel way too normal when it comes to my porn fetishes. Are there any female characters in Thomas the Tank? Maybe I'll spice up my life a little and have the wife dress up as a locomotive ...
It's the ol rule 34 in action.
If something exists, there's porn of it.
PimptatoPCs lmfao
I usually walk away from "ebay scammers" videos from any other channels but this one actually provides some knowledge, didn't know you can flash the bios this way it is the same method used to unlock enterprise-grade tpm chips
It's really a one-off kind of thing. It really interested me and a GTX 550 Ti will come in very handy at some point, I'm sure of it. Now back to working with retro hardware :D
ive never watched your channel before, but i love how informational it is!!!!
Awesome video, Maybe i'm getting a fake card becouse it's free.
Great Result , worth the effort. GG
Was messing with windows sound enhancements while watching. Love your voice at +3 pitch change
Great work!! Excellent video. Subscribed.Ive never seen a usb programmer used to flash GPU bios before. Very interesting.
Did you notice any performance difference after the flash?
I couldn't notice anything worth mentioning in the video...
I agree buddy! Ordered my new deli laptop and a hamsung phone and they work a treat!
My question is even though the cards are fake they do seem to work so do you feel that the cards are worth what you paid for them. I have also noticed that with the inflated video card prices that the fake card prices also have been jacked up at least in the US..
DIY 3D Experience They are free basically, you get your money back through eBay. They should be a bit cheaper if they sell it correctly labelled.
To give you an example, you can get used GTX 650 cards for USD 30 shipped out of Asia. They are not as clean / new, but the pricing is competitive. So if they sold these fake cards as a 550 Ti, around 20 to 30 bucks would be fair value IMO.
I got ya I will probably steer clear besides I already have the real ones and right now I'm into some retro builds that use AGP..
PhilsComputerLab How do you get your money back? And if you do get your money back, don't you have to return/ship the card back to the seller?
eBay has a good help section on this. You basically put in a claim "item not as described"
Loved this video Phil!
Very informative! Subbed, I must ask though: Is Phil a German living in Australia/NZ?
Austrian :)
You had to buy a kit to re-flash it? That must be one stubborn bios! Usually you can flash it while installed in the computer. That reminds me of my Asus EAH 6850. Completely bricked it thanks to Asus giving out corrupt files. The first one for bios #1 was a 6870 mod, since physically the two gpu's are very close. It failed, I tried the fix and didn't work. So I left it like it was and used the 2nd bios. A new bios update came out for the 6850 (Asus download). Re-flashed it, card died. The thing that sucks was this was only a year after the card was released, so it was a big investment for me. I ended up having to toss the card, I gave it to my programming buddy and he couldn't get it working.
Yea these scammers blocked the usual nvflash working. But once you hardware flash it, then you can use nvflash again :)
Phil, have you tried the hacked one, NVFlash-all_checks_bypassed-v5-206-0-1?
780 sc sold as original 1st gen titan. Money back 100%
Great Video, Phil! Miss you on Vogons.
Hi Phil, just wanted to say 'thanks' for the tip about re-flashing the bios. My 960 was actually a 550 TI. Had to learn how to do the flash process, but it's all good. Learning curve wasn't that bad, and the eeprom device was had on ebay for $7/ship incl - with the chip clamp in on the deal. Now I can get a little braver and go after other things that need to be reflashed, like an ASUS x99 mobo that needs some TLC . . .
Sadly I have a 128kb flash chip on mine and all BIOSes are 64kb or under...
@@chrisfraser8575 my chip too, you just need to flash properly and use the correct type
@@foxxyytofficial when you say flash properly and correct type, what do you mean? I have tried many BIOSes
in the program to flash the bios, you need to choose the correct chip type (how much mbits and mbytes it have), their model and connection as well
and in my own case, i needed more than 20 BIOS tests to discover that my card only accepts one type of BIOS file without glitching, and i found 2 BIOS files that "works"
@@foxxyytofficial which bios files worked for you? Does your card look like the attached? images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/71leUbun9bL._SX425_.jpg
Does anyone know if this will work for a bios chip labelled pm25L0020 or Pm25LD020 (eyes not as young as they used to be!) ? It is a gts450 gpu but a different version bios to the one in this vid.
Cheers
Is your BIOS 128kb?
If anyone finds out a way to software flash it let me know. I have a fake 650 ti advertised as a gtx 1050.
CriminalGameplay i dont know whats the point of this u will still have the shit fake hardware and that will still run the same
Um, he did figure out a way to flash it, that's what he does in this video.
And, no, the hardware itself is not fake, it's a genuine nVidia gpu and the ram is real, if I'm seeing correctly on the fake card in the video, it's even Samsung GDDR5 ram, it's just misreported. The PROBLEM with these cards is that they report to the OS that they have, for instance, 2GB of graphics ram and they only have one, and that they have a 700 or 900 series level of features when they only have a 4/500 series set of features. If you flash the bios and install the proper driver, you have a perfectly fine low end card that you can use for some older games.
@@smokegamingchannel5370 Because when the fake bios, the card is unstable. With the real bios, at least it is usable.
Phil you deserve more subs. Great video more stuff like this please
That's actually a really handy way to fix those cards when you're in retro computing anyway.
Granted, I wouldn't buy Chinese cards anyway but it's a good thing you've got some help there to turn it back into a real GTS450 (of which I'm actually surprised to it see running GRID Autosport that well).
Do you have a forum, discord, or reddit where we can discuss cards. I want to ruin a scammers day and a 550ti would let my old desktop play cs go
in the description he links to a github page which list some of the sellers !
Just buy it on wish they refund it even without asking further questions
im thinking of purchasing some cards, do you reccomend the "750 ti"'s? and do I get the refund and get to keep the card or do i have to send it back? @@matejbrezan6887

@@matejbrezan6887 true!
They wouldn't try and deceive us like that. Sheesh, I'm off to play on my Somy PlaeStation after writing this comment on my brand new Appel EyePhone.
Paul Gascoigne Lmao
excellent work you and catsay! I recently got interested in these fake Chinese gpus and it's good to see that not all is lost after they messed up the bios chip. Still not worth a buy, but at least by your way one can save a little bit of money. Or just return it, if it's possible.
Thanks. I had a problem getting this at first. I thought I followed the instructions but couldn't get it right. I took a month break from it and came back to it and figured out that the bios chip on the GTX 550Ti (that was labeled as a GTX 970) was located on the back of the cards.
what if you got scammed by buying a gt 710 but it's actually a gtx 1080ti ?
Noice, so u basically only spent $15(AUS) for a GTX 550Ti and GTS 450.
Dude, I literally made all my subs from experimenting with 2 of these fake cards. I'm difinitely going to try this method to fix them. Thanks so much for this video.
The issue with that is that those new subs want to see fake video cards, and not your regular content :)
Very nice! It's actually quite amazing. If this isn't going to be one of your most watched videos, then I don't know :D Now the scammers are going to get broke as they deserve to!
Question: Can I use the TL866CS Programmer for the job?
Actually I tried the TL866CS and it wouldn't work, spit out some error message. I guess these cheap ones throw all safety out the window and just get on with it :D
Good to know, thank you :D
Thanks, my 550 ti is coming friday, excited to refund it and have a free actual gpu for the ZT systems i5 2320 prebuilt I found
Be sure you have something to fix the card so you can run it correctly! good luck!
Bhume
Thanks for the luck, coincidentally it came early. Reasonable games seem to run fine even with the forced 750 Ti drivers, so luckily I won't have to flash the VBios. Pretty sure it already has the correct ram size listed too. I guess I have a guest PC of sorts now
goosea can you use shadowplay with the 750ti bios on it?
AquaaAU This is a really interesting question, I'll test later. I would imagine it would probably just crash since you need a minimum of a 650, but I'll try
goosea thats why im wondering, since it's registered as a 750ti

Michael Hatch the ebay scammers... :D
Some people just like to give things a dislike for no reason no matter how helpful thr video is.
nice video phil! thanks again :)
Great video, makes me wonder if they have warehouses full of GTS 450's in China, I still see fake GTX 1050 ti's for sale today that are clearly GTS 450's underneath.

SeltsamerAttraktor A german mate :).
Hi I bought 2 780ti's and now i am stuck with them please make a simpler video for flashing bios.
Load BIOS file and press program. Doesn't get simpler...
like real bricked 780ti s or just fake ones because flashing them will just make them go back to normal not make them real lol
This video is simple !
"stuck" those are good lol more like "holding out with"
He basically asks you: " Can't you do it for me? Because I am lazy, and not in the mood. So let me send you the cards, and you fix it for free. Deal? "
I've used the same programmer you have in the vid to reflash a laptop efi chip, that laptop has since stopped working completely (what I get for buying a cheap Chinese laptop) but the programmer is quite interesting
Good job thank you for this, very important and impressive information.
21 people that watched this video are eBay/Wish scammers.
I just got one of these cards and have been waiting for this video.
Good luck man! What GPU does yours have?
I have the GTX 750ti, and I was able to get my money back. So it seems that I made the right choice.
Awesome work you all!
This actually seems like a cool project. Is there a video somewhere that goes into greater detail for how to do this?
The 500 series was pretty good. I used a 560 Ti for a long time... The only reason I upgraded was to run an Oculus Rift. If VR didn't require it, I would probably still be using it, because I mostly game in 1080p.
This is a lot more easy than I expected
Awesome. I forgot that you can fix BIOSes like in the CIH video. Now you have some good winxp GPUs.
Great video. Well done
Awesome video man it helped me alot
Nice thanks for update I got a card for sons PC we think is also naff. Will give this a go.
Do you know if these vaseky ssds are the real deal? On eBay not a lot is mentioned before Dec last year on a quick search
How did they lock the BIOS? One possibility is that nvflash freaks out over something unfamiliar, so you have to use a hacked version of that. Another possibility is that they did something with WP line of the flash IC, so just hooking it up again could help flash the card in situ and without additional hardware.
Hey Phill, I'm looking forward to get exactly the same programmer and adapter un order to try to save several Intel branded LGA 775 motherboard. Is there any chance you can make a flashing tutorial for this USB programming device? Thanks in advance.
I'm very bad ad visual recognition and might be making a trip to China. Could I please ask: Have you any tips on recognising the real from the fake? Good reliable references/links maybe based on your experience?
Have the same blue screwdriver :D
Wow, that chip programmer is really cheap. Should buy one in case I miss flash the motherboard BIOS.
What program are you using for the bios flash? I got a dead Asus P5B S775 motherboard: bios got bricked, so i'm planning buying this equipment. Thx.
Gpu: whats going on, i feel normal
Nice work. Will any of this BIOSes work with the fake GTX 1050 ti?
Yay! A new Video. Btw. Are you German?
Srandista but he doesn't sound aussie at all thats why
He's an Austrian who moved to Australia. That's why he has a German accent.
Fokker TISM thanks for the explaination!
Everyone is mix race and new immigrants to australia, and i mean all of us every Aussie, were all different colours of people and we all have different accents .. phills family maybe came to australia alot more recently that my family maybe 200yrs later but even i have over 6 known european bloodlines and one know polynesian though my family has been here 200yrs, and people have never stopped coming here, so phills aussie/euro accent is very common..
So, moving from cozy Austria/Europe to the land where even the trees want you dead when they self-combust. Yeah... i pass and stay in the relative safe Ruhrpott. o.o
I suggest you have a dedicated playlist for hardware maintenance
Yea that makes sense.
It seems like to me, the lower end you go with these fakes, the closer the actual card will be.
Weird question:
Will this be the same on bios flashing for oem motherboards?
(Obviously involving modding the bios and so)
OCAU represent. Nice work Phil, subbed.
EDIT to add: Lots of dudes saying Wish.com is the place to get ya scam cards, they are obviously aware that this is going on by now and are giving straight-up no-questions-asked refunds (for now anyway).
Yea I heard about that :) Never bought anything from wish, might check it out. Did you get anything?
PhilsComputerLab Nah mate, my genuine GTX970 continues to meet my needs for now. I'll continue to wait patiently for the cryptocurrency bubble to burst. :)
im still confused at how you made Grid 1 work at widescreen, did you use widescreen fixer?
Can you please post for us the bios for the 960 fake? i have an identical one
Just ordered a fake 750ti to put in a budget build with a Xeon E5450 on a Asus P5Q motherboard. I thinks they'll be a pretty good pair
This video is what I have been looking for I got a RX 570 from amazon that was flashed and they refund the money and told me to keep the card and this video might just help me to get it working . Now I just need to know the name of the software I need for the flasher once I receive it.
There used to be crazier stories about "NV43" based "9600GT" or something. At first it was quite easy to tell, but now they used something much more powerful to scam. Again, please keep your eyes sharp while buying!
Thanks for sharing.
The real heroes are the people who make the reprogramming software and that clip kit.
Please show us how you actually did it, your process instead of the game playing?
Like I said in the video, this isn't a tutorial on how to use a programmer or flash a BIOS. A bit of prior knowledge is required, and if not, there are a ton of video of how to use a programmer, a few on my channel as well :D
Hi Phil, thanks for all the videos. Your channel is great indeed. I happen to have in my hands one of those fake 750TIs. the bios chip is the Pm25LD010. I have bought the programmer and the clip which are on the way. My question is: gpu-z tells me the bus width is 128bit (while the 550ti has 192bit). Can my card be a GTS450 instead? Will the programmer software tell me that the bios is not compatible with the card or I will just have to try different ones until it works? Thanks a lot!
You cannot trust GPU-Z at all. I hope you can figure it out with what's shown in the video. Good luck.
in my case it shown that my gpu was 128bit and GF106 too, when i tried to see the bios, it showed that it was a GTS450, so i tested every bios that i've found
I'm in a situation similar to yours. Buy a false graphic.
How did the claim go on Ebay and Paypal?
What did you tell them and what tests did you send to Paypal to prove that the graphic was false?
Only photos of the gpu-z and the graphics without heatsink to show the integrated gpu?
regards
Should you uninstall drivers before flashing?
Thanks, I'll do it in Sunday.
i bought a card for $20 from a guy who said it was a Chinese GTX 650, but when I got the card it actually has a sticker on the back that says it is a GTX 750TI 2GDDR5. Of course, I pulled the white, dual fan cooler and see the chip is actually GF116-400-A1. I can't read the number on the tiny 8 pins chips to determine the BIOS chip, but this is obviously a 550 TI. Any recommendations or links to get better details on how to do the BIOS flashing so I can fix this card?
Howdy, im trying to flash the 450 but Im also having the errors, could you send me the original bios so I can reflash over it like you had said worked? I thought I had made a backup of it but it messed up so im stuck rn haha
Could you put up a link?
Hey Phil how do you identify what graphics card you have after finding out that its a fake so I can flash the bios to its original program? Thanks!
HI, I am trying to put the pin onto the BOIS CHIP and trying to copy what technique you're doing but mine isn't sticking on what am I doing wrong? 2:52
Did u try flashing with nvflash eith the default windows driver? I have a 780, when I try to flash with nvidia driver and nvflash, the system freezes ... standard Windows drivers work ... The card is fully working ...
Holy nutt how did you get the drivers for your flasher to work. I've tried like 5 different ones on mine and I cannot for the life of me get it to work.
