It does. I had an E46 6sp slicktop for 6 years. Loved the car, didn't care for the buzzy exhaust note. There are lots of aftermarket options, but i never got around to it, too busy driving it.
I love how the E36 sounds, it sounds like it’s angrily building power in a tight chamber. The E46 sounds like it’s got loose components and rattling apart. I like them both but the E-Dirty6 does it better.
They both sound so awesome and I couldn’t decide so I bought both. E46 M3 Interlagos and E36 Techno Violet coupe. Best $ I ever spent. Bought them when these cars were overlooked by all. Couldn’t understand why, but now they are getting the respect they deserve.

E36 sounds so much better, both intake and exhaust. E46 has such a stupid sounding rasp in the exhaust note and, surprisingly the CSL intake doesn't sound as good as the one fitted to this particular E36, whatever that is it makes this E36 sound really, really badass on the intake side of things
No one Really understands Euro E36 M3 3.0 Compared to 3 2! 3.0 all day long I have one and had two! I've got to friends who both agree my 3.0 is far more fun that's a fact! I'm sure many will disagree
Both cars not stock . So the question is, which mods sound better . The E46 has a better engine noise to my ears, but the E36 has a better exhaust sound and I'm talking stock

add equal length headers to s54 and you have a car with 100 more hp and best sound
