      Eternals answers the question why Doctor Strange let Snap happen.
      It was because of only BLIP Ajak was impressed by Humans and decided to save them. If Doctor Strange stopped Thanos by snapping, Eternals would have supported the emergence.

    small thing I liked about the movie was towards the end when phastos trapped ikaris with gold rings/energy that limited and kinda of prevented him from using his powers. and how thats like the story of when hephaestus traps ares and aphrodite in gold netting preventing them from escaping and using their godly powers!! Just the lil nod to his namesake/name inspo was cool

    Here's an easter egg a lot of people may have missed. I wouldn't usually think of product placement as an easter egg, but the appearance of a box of Twinkie's in the spaceship near the end is a hilarious nod to the fact that, in the VERY FIRST issue of the Eternals, there was a full-page ad for Twinkie's that featured Captain America defeating the Red Skull through the power of...a Twinkie. It's true!

    Re: the darwin statue, i think evolution was a big theme of the story. The ability to evolve was cited as the flaw in the celestial's design of the deviants. The eternals were supposed to be an answer to that, unable to evolve. Then the second half of the film showed that these eternals gained the ability to change and grow.

    • @malestorm234
      @malestorm234 Před 2 lety +21

      Yep, the whole film is about evolving, changing OR NOT changing. No matter what the celestials do you can't control how things evolve and change.

      @davidbjacobs3598 Před 2 lety +15

      Good observation! I like this a lot.
      It plays into humanity's role as well. Phastos gives them the plow one day, the next they're dropping atom bombs. But we also have the ability to change for the better. The Emergence would have put a halt to that evolution.

    My big question is this: Who is the most powerful, who is in control, and who knows the most? The TVA, the Celestials, or The Watcher?
    Edit: I would also like to point out that the name "Tiamut" is probably coming from "Tiamat", a Babylonian sea goddess who represents primordial chaos. Also, while most of the Eternals have names similar to well known ancient deities, the name "Kingo" probably comes from "Kingu", a child of Tiamat (and Abzu, the primordial sky god). Tiamat gave Kingu gifts, such as a breastplate and the Tablet of Destinies (basically a cosmic legal document saying that Enlil is the supreme god). I'm not entirely sure how all of that could connect, but that's what I know of the mythological figures.

    • @davidbjacobs3598
      @davidbjacobs3598 Před 2 lety +4

      It's hard to gauge the Watcher's power, since he rarely uses it. He is likely on par with a Celestial, but of course they are a full race and would collectively be more powerful. Of course Watcher also has multiversal power, so maybe I'm wrong with that.
      The TVA is a different kind of power, in that they have good weapons and tech and bureacracy. If they actually fought a Celestial, they'd be wiped out no question. But their power comes from knowledge as well -- Kang basically knows what's going to happen. So it's kind of non-incidental.
      If we ever meet Eternity, Infinity, Oblivion, or Death, they will top all of these. If we meet the Living Tribunal, he's stronger than all of us. Then the Beyonders are maybe on par with LT. And the strongest, of course, is The One Above All... who is Jack Kirby.

    • @greywolf7577

      The Watcher would be the most powerful except that he doesn't interfere. If the other two, the TVA is the most powerful because if they don't like what the Celestials do, they can just erase that timeline.

Sure it’s long, heavy on the exposition, and one character had an arc right out of Invincible (which wouldn’t have been an issue if Eternals had released in 2020). But I was very impressed by the cinematography and I enjoyed the cast (particularly Kumail Nanjiani, Don Lee, and Brian Tyree Henry). They could’ve taken this story and spread it out into 2 films instead of cramming it all into 1. The cast like I said was great and each had there moment to shine, but I felt when something big happened in the movie I didn’t get to excited or sad because these characters are so new to MCU I didn’t have an emotional connection with them. On the bright side it really opened up the MCU to so much more and the post credits scenes were great and set up a lot by the end of the film. It’s one of the most different films marvel has every made.

      This film should have been made somewhere in the Phase 3
      And, the second film (a Phase 4 Movie) should have started from another wave of Deviants after the blip and should have ended where it ended

    The movie wasn’t as great as Endgame or Infinity war but for a first go around I can’t think of another MCU movie that comes close except for Black Panther. The cinematography is amazing from beginning to end and the exposition is as engulfing as anything the MCU has offered in any other movie. From Thena’s condition being watched by Gilgamesh to Druig and Makkarri then into Sprite Sersi and Icarus’s love triangle, nothing at all seems too much for the audience. Zhao made a cohesive film as good or better then any other 10+ superhero on screen at once film could ever be asked for.
    Even if this film wasn’t a 10/10, the future it just set up is absolutely incredible from the black Knight to Starfox helping the space bound group help their friends. All that and no one has even mentioned the biggest thing going forward. When all the Avengers become privy to the eternals....I’d say maybe by avengers 5 or maybe it’s setting up 6-7 with A5 being a sort of Age of Ultron leading to infinity war and endgame...

      The more aliens-interfering you add to Earth's history in the MCU, the more fun this could all get, but there's also the risk of it all not holding up as well, if the writers of various films and series don't consult with each other or pay attention to the details in everything that's come before.
      If the Marvel Television era stuff still counted, then we'd also have the Kree messing around with human DNA and creating The Inhumans (I know the Celestials did the same to humans to create The Eternals in the comics, and this similarity is probably why The Eternals were made to be synthetic beings in the MCU instead).

    i liked it. i wish it had been a little deeper though, especially with the mythology aspects. id have liked to have gotten some more from their mind meld with the baby celestial. was it aware when it was awakening? when they joined with it, it must have had some things to say to them about their plan. id liked to have seen some of that.

    Watched it last night and I really liked it! I really felt the emotional burdens of the characters and the visuals were stunning. I'm excited to see the development of all these new characters to the MCU.

    What DC Comic did Jack Kirby want to work on because it was the worst-selling?

    A easter egg, when they were traveling on the plan, on the TV screen it was showing the Star Wars Episode V - The Empire Strike Back putting the famous I love you I know quote.

    *Loved this movie!!!* Everything from the story, the characters, the gorgeous cinematography, and the fantastic performances by all of the actors involved, I enjoyed every single minute. Critics keep harping about the movies length (second longest MCU film after Endgame) but because I was so engrossed in the story the runtime flew by for me and I was genuinely sorry to see it end. No question about it, I liked Eternals *far* more than Shang-Chi and I look forward to seeing the characters again in future MCU films. Next up Spider-Man: No Way Home!

    There was also a Dark Angel reference in London as it was the name of a bar or tattoo shop. Dark Angel or Hell Angel is a London hero.

    Pretty sure it was the Glenfinnan Viaduct, not an aqueduct in Italy

    Having missed this movie when it came out, it was a special treat to find out about Kingo's "family tree" since I had not originally understood this reference while watching Ms Marvel!
    Episode 1 (or maybe 2) Kamala and Kamran have a conversation about how their mother still have crushes on the Kingo's they grew up watching 🥰
