    Man, i've wondered about this so many times, just never got around to actually testing it. I am surprised your KMC link slides so easily in/out, I have to use their chain pliers every time. The connex link, however, I have used for several years for my 10sp bikes, and I can open it by hand like you show.

    Thanks! My very knackered 11 speed chain broke a few blocks from home today. I only have 10 speed links in my toolbox so I guess I'll use one.

    I have a 10sp missing link on my 11sp chain that I run on a 10sp system. My link will slide like you showed when you first put it on but pull on the chain and also wiggle the missing link so as to widen it and it will not slide off after. It will feel locked on.

    I am wondering if 10 speed wipperman links will work on 11 speed chains. I have bunch of them so avoiding upgrading to the more costly 11 speed connex link ($24 each) with my new 11 speed drive train would be nice.

    can we use 10 speed KMC missing link for shimano 10 speed chain ?

    You can use 10s chain with 11s cassette with no problem rather than 11s chain. The gap between the two chains is tolerated by 11s cassete gaps.

    I've had problems with the Connex link catching on the smaller sprockets so I (also) run a KMC Link instead. My experience was similar to yours in that the 10spd KMC link was a tad too wide for the Wipperman chain but this even happens on a 10spd chain too, not just the 11spd as you mention in the vid. However, my solution is to run a narrower 11spd KMC link on the 10spd chain, so the link is now nice and snug. The 11spd link can't be detached with your hands like the 10spd link can but that's not a big issue for me.

      I have noticed that when I'm in my 53-11 under high load, my chain wants to jump onto the 12. . . I've assumed that I just need to adjust my rear derailleur stop, but now I'm thinking it is the extra wide Wipperman link. I will try the 11 spd KMC (non reusable) and see if that makes a difference.

      Your connex link is in backwards

  • @bjornerikkleiven9172

    I guess you can put any chain thru derailleur and cassette set, and look for catches,
    and as I know spikes on cassettes and chainrings are a match

    now i wonder if 10speed chain will work on 11 speed ultegra 6800 cogs? hope to hear from you..

    • @TheBeanWhoWalks
      @TheBeanWhoWalks  Před 7 lety

      Hmm. That does seem like a reasonable question, since the 10 speed link worked with the 11 speed chain. I haven't tried it. I'd be interested to hear from someone who has. My guess is that it would technically "work", but may not be what we would consider quality rolling or shifting.

      i'm just looking for an ultegra 11-32 cogs 6800 11spd and will try out the 10S chain on the 11 spd cogs, BUT only for experiment, i do have an 11spd YBN black chain, will add something for fun :)

      i bought SLA h11 tiB and it doesn't have a missing link, store said it does have one, but then i opened the box, no missing links...aaarrr

    • @JomsF
      @JomsF Před 7 lety

      will try the 10spd on a 11-32 5800 cogs 11spd, will comment in a few days lets see what till happen, but i do have 11spd chain, prefer using the 11spd chain, but will just check out the 10spd chain against the 11spg cogs...

      10 sp chain will work with 11sp front rings but not 11sp cassett and even then it's not advisable I've tried it and just swapped everything out for xt 11sp group set..much better 👍

  • @hlund9857
    @hlund9857 Před 7 lety

    Would it perhaps be an idea to combine the two missing links? I mean a 11-speed on one side and a 10-speed on the other side of the chain?
    ...and thanks for a fine video... :)

    • @TheBeanWhoWalks
      @TheBeanWhoWalks  Před 7 lety

      Hmm. . . not quite sure what you mean. Do you mean 1/2 of an 11-speed link with 1/2 of a 10-speed link? I've never tried that. I wonder if they fit together.

    • @hlund9857
      @hlund9857 Před 7 lety

      Last to Fast yes, one half of each type....but that was just an idea in order to reduce width... Thanks for answering😊👍

    can wippermann connex 11 speed link be used on an 11 speed shimano chain or is it better to use it on a wippermann chain

      Wipperman Connex 11 link can be used on Shimano chain. That's how I use it.

    Hi, I was wondering if you ever know about 11 speed quick links on 10 speed chain in an emergency?

  • @traingp7
    @traingp7 Před 8 lety +1

    Just use a 11 speed Connex link. They cost 20 bucks on ebay.

    • @TheBeanWhoWalks
      @TheBeanWhoWalks  Před 8 lety

      So true! . . . And, if you don't have one, but you do have a 10-Speed KMC Missing Link, you can use that too.
