One word : Lifesaver
Just replaced both O2 sensors yesterday. I have to say it made an enormous difference on acceleration as well as slightly lower idle and much smoother overall engine run. Ive had my Mazda for 8 months now, and its just now topping the 70k range and from what I can tell, the major 60k maint hadn’t been done. It ran ok, but poor acceleration to say the least. About 2 months in to ownership my CEL came on, drive awhile and off it went. I ordered some replacements online and got the $15 O2 socket and....... night and day!!! I definitely recommend replacing them if your car laughs at you while trying to pull out in traffic!
You should replace your spark plugs and coil packs as well, was having same issue and it made a world of a difference making power and accelerating as well

Imo these cars benefit way more in chassis and suspension upgrades rather than engine mods. I think removing the intake resonator is a good idea. But honestly it’s better to spend your money on upgrades such as better rear sway bars, coil overs, tyres, better bushings, sway bar links and brakes. It will give a really fun car around turns. If you want more power then your better off buying a speed 3 or another car tailored for performance
Great advice!!!! New sway bars are a great idea. The rear engine mount made a huge difference for my manual hatchback. I never had much extra money so i never did the suspension. Its a non speed 3 so i know it will never go that fast. I wish i could pop in a OBD and get 50hp or even 20hp. I think there might be something wrong electronically. I had a couple days where it magically drove much quicker, until i turned it off. Happened a few times and never again :(. First gear is so embarrassing lol.
Just drive in standard, keep your oil brakes, suspension and air intake maintained and remount your TCM(Transmission Control Module) so it doesn't overheat later on. Trust me, I know!
Any tips on where to remount it
@@twotapp1140 my mechanic just ziptied it against back the wall with the three small metal pipes. I wish youtube would let you post pictures in the comments. But it's basically mounted against the wall right behind the battery
@@Kaio_Kid I’m thinking of getting spacer bolts and just putting like a 4in gap between the tranny and the Tcm but still in the same location
@@twotapp1140 that should work because you're giving it room to breathe. I had mine replaced and remounted round this time last year and still riding smooth. If that AT light is ever on, that's what the problem is.

Man, what a difference 3 years makes! Now there's both a CS turbo, and a VT Racing Skyactiv supercharger. Those improvements have spawned a renewed interest in other mods, and I swear I'm seeing a wider variety of bolt-ons recently, though that could just be my impression.
I'm actually going after the supercharger myself, because the broad power band and no lag is so good for daily driving. Can't wait!

Im in the process of building a 2010 mazda 3 2.5 and it is going to go full track car but for the time being just cs intake, borla exhaust, aluminum intake manifold. Probs going to remap my ecu and get bc coilovers soon... Idk if I'll upload it but I might thanks for the resources though I might invest in a catch pan soon

Nothing is going to make more power without a tune. Your engine runs within parameters. These paraneters are set for a middle ground between fuel economy and horse power. This goes for most vehicles which means you can tune your vehicle for more horse power so if you plan on doing a bunch of bolt ons and want to see gains, get it tuned.

Well... march of this year I bought a 2008 Mazda 3, since then I painted the wheels, blacked the emblems out, pulled the trigger on a cork sport intake, footwell LEDs, resonator delete, short-throw shifter, aftermarket shift knob that was like $200, a sound system for the doors, and learned how to do a brake job and headlight replacement on the car too. Well... last Friday a 2010 Honda crv rolled through a stop sign leaving me no time to react, which totaled my Mazda... I've been looking for a Mazdaspeed or a different car or even a truck. Just wanted to say, Colton, you really inspired me to buy my first car, my Mazda 3

I have a non speed 3, so damn slow. I did the rear engine mount and that made a HUGE difference. Even made it growl a bit more. Corksport intake is good. Like you said, the car isn't made to go fast. Having a manual helps a lot. If i run it rough at higher rpms it can feel fast but its not. I like the old school tallights on my hatchback. Its a 2008 so its old now. Hoping to get an A4 to mod up!!!!!
"feels fast but not" perfect for my first car, I wanna feel good but I'm not racing or being fast till I'm experienced, and by then I'll be set to buy a faster car, for now I'll make it perform as best as IT can go, and I'ma make it look nice, not rice nice, but pretty. I don't care bout true speed yet, because I don't want to end up wrapped around a tree or a track wall. Good little car to go around town and not worry about speeding, while scratching that young guy "speed speed speed" itch and feeling fun.
Okay for all the people with 2.0 (me included!) or any mazda3 … IF YOU PUT BOLT ON’s ON UR CAR YOU WILL FEEL A DIFFERENCE BUT UR ECU WILL STILL READ IT AS STOCK SO YOU WONT GET ALL THE PERFORMANCE OUT OF IT! Yes you still can get it but just be aware if you want all the gains bolt on’s are for getting your car tuned so ur ecu uses everything together!

@@JoseMorales-er7xh they don't make any, you'd have to put the kit together yourself. You could use parts of a used Mazdaspeed 3s turbo system if you wanted to do it for cheap.

Get one but 2nd gen. You'll have some of the MZR problems out of the way and you have a way more bulletproof motor to play wth. Had a Protégé Speed, Then a Speed 6 and a Speed 3. you won't regret your cho1ce...sorry my keyboards messed up. no abcdefgh jklmopqrstuvwxyz one not there so theres that... lol
the happy face on the gen 2 was meh but was thinking about that aswell. i've seen on the mazdaspeed forums that the first gen was a little bit expensive on maintenance than the gen 2
I love driving my 3s 6-speed hatch. Its got the 2.5 and I just keep it stock and at 215k I can still burn out the front wheels. Its not a race car, but it's got the zip around town and is just as lively as when I got it 8 years ago.

i used to use that exact short throw shifter but i had an issue where if i shifted too hard the ball would pop out of the shifter and i would have to pull over and fix it it was dangerous and i just took it back to stock but left the bushings and it felt way better
I have a 2005 Mazda 3, and found the best way to add horse power was by welding a hitch to the front of my vehicle, and getting it pulled by two mustangs. You can also save some money and go with a pair of donkeys. Get that license plate customized: "assman" 😂

I have a 2008 Mazda 3 S and need help my car will sometimes try to shut off on me and at first the radio will shut off and turn on then my steering light will come on and finally the car will shut off and when I turn it off all the bushes will max out then go back to normal. When I turn it back on it will be fine for awhile till it does it again. Any help would be nice 😊

210 horsepower is good enough for an NA mazda 3... If you're really into tuning buy the awd mps wich is even harder to modify... But i dont think you'll ever touch it

@@marvinescobar473 not really tbh, I did do a full cat back exhaust with a valved muffler and I do notice the car gains a few extra poneys when the valve is open so I would guess an exhaust with better airflow help you gain a couple horsepower

Hi Colton, was just wondering if i do take the intake resonator off then will i start getting hotter intake temps due to the intake sucking air closer to the engine, therefore getting head radiation from the engine? Seen a lot of good things yet bad things about it at the same time, i want to do the mod but i’m not sure if it will be fully safe
Yes & no, in my own theory I still believe air is being sent through the fender well where the resonator grabs the air from even without it being there, maybe a tad hotter but nothing to go crazy over!
@@ColtonRichter Cheers for the reply. I guess as long as the car is moving it should still be getting cool air from other places. You haven't noticed any excessive temps or overheating in the time that you've had this mod done? I've also just purchased a high flow K&N air filter so I should be getting more air volume regardless.

Go to corksport they have a lot of stuff for the 3. Remember, the mazda 3 is quick, it isnt fast.

So how solid are the 2.3s if I left it stock and put a simple axle back exhaust on it. Like what are the main failure points that are common with the 2.3s? I heard the timing tensioner likes to fail if that's true is there anyone that sells a better kit
The VVT issue is a MazdaSpeed thing, your NA 2.3 has a HUGE common issue with throwing rods, and burning a ton of oil due to PCV system clog up.
@@ColtonRichter Timming chains on the N/A 2.3s is still a common falure too. I work at a Mazda Spare parts yard and we always have to replace the timming chains whenever we ship out any L3 2.3 motor due to the amount of issues our customers have had after they install them.

I agree that Mazda 3 arent the fastest car in the world, but at the same time, my stock 2008 Axela/3 20S managed to keep up with an IS250 for a short while at a red light drag. I was using manual mode and revving to 5k. Either The driver in the IS250 was a bad driver or the car dealer was lying about the car being fully stock 🤔

It could just be that the engine is cold, u should turn it on and wait for it to get quieter, usually for me it takes like 10 secs

About to buy one myself and was wondering the same.
Get high performance spark plugs from ngk, o2 sensors from ntk, this helped me get a better throttle response for cheap, also jet performance makes a mazda 3 intake sensor that supposedly adds power, plus I have an afe filter, blitz makes a 3 filter too that performed nice, he also forget to mention performance engine coils that are easy to install and cheap

I love my 2008 mazda3 the body is nice but honestly the engine is slow as fuck everybody passes me in the freeway trucks other cars and minivans bikes guys in bicycles I’m like wtf I’m going too speed what’s going on so I’m working on putting a corvette c7 stingray engine on it plus the transmission and the rear transaxle I know it’s gonna be hard but it will be like working on a formula I know your probably saying might as well buy a different car but I like the body of this mazda3 and tricking the people yeah it’s slow but once they see the corvette run there gonna shit there pants and say wow that mazda3 is fast and I would like it to be better a Subaru wrx,Mitsubishi evo and Ford Focus RS
What free way are you on I've gotten my 02 up to 125mphs and hit governor gearing is short enough I honestly don't know if I could hit 140 with out. Governor before hitting rev limiter, so not fast by any means but as far as cheap fwd sub 180hp car goes its kinda quick, for you I would check your air filter then for clogged exhaust and o2 sensor codes.
yeah somethings up with your car, i got an 04 mazda 3 hatchback, and sure the 1-60 feels slow and unresponsive, but after 60 i can reach 100 suprisingly fast for how slow it is at the lower speeds.
but i feel you on the wanting to drop in a sweet engine into it, i will do the same whenever my engine fails just because i love the 3s body
@@sathanas420 i got a 2.5 05 sedan sp5 speed and it goes 1-40 in 3 sec 40-60 2sec 60-80 1 sec 80-140 2 sec combine 8 second to max that’s pretty good for a dohc engine

They’re ugly
Throttle bodies, camshafts, exhaust manifold, cat back, tune.
These engines can see 200+ horsepower in the NC mx5 and in the European fiesta ST150. It’s not all peaky power either, with 175lb-ft from 3000 rpm
At least on the first gen NA 3s, there's no aftermarket TB or cams. Headers and tune makes a helluva difference though. I've got two 3s, one with tune and exhaust mods, one without ... major difference.
Jj Fatts You can get them in the UK/Europe. So you’d need to import them to the states. But we can’t get specific exhausts/manifolds here, so have to source them from the states haha.

Air intakes are generally a bad idea for modern cars (2010+). They tune the length of the intake with the gearing and the tune of the engine to make it an all around package. Oiled filters like K&N's will end up putting the oil into your car's combustion chamber as well so keep that in mind.
