    I just did this to my 5 yesterday. I used a 6 gauge ground cable that was probably meant for a lawnmower. $8 at Fleet Farm. A tiny bit long, but not by a lot.
    It definitely made the throttle response almost indistinguishable from a car with a cable instead of DBW.
    I used to think the trash throttle response was the clutch just being totally worn out or excessive carbon buildup, etc. With a stick shift, it is so much faster and smoother to start in 1st and shift between gears. Probably putting a lot less wear on the clutch now due to actually being able to feel where the throttle should be at low RPMs.

      I just did this to my Mazda 5, and it really helped with throttle response to the point that shifting is much faster and smoother and starting from a stop is a lot more easy and consistent. I'm used to driving cars that have cables run directly to the throttle body (and apparently cars that just do DBW right).
      It doesn't make the car any faster though outside of that. What kind of slow ass Camaros and Mustangs are you racing? Were they actually trying? I know my 5 will still not hold a candle to my 4G Eclipse GT and there are a lot faster cars out there than that.

    i just did this and WOW.
    the only thing i hate about it is that i can't explain how or why it works, but it definitely does! the gas pedal is much more sensitive now.
    i'm almost wondering if it has to do with bypassing the electronics of the DBW system by providing a constant ground? i'd guess a lot of DBW systems are engineered more for comfort and designed to ignore sharp inputs in favor of sustained inputs.
    everything in my logic brain is arguing with my butt dyno. it's not faster, full throttle is still full throttle, but quarter throttle now feels like half. i can think of a million reasons why this should not work, but it definitely does.
    i used to be able to rapidly pulse the gas pedal from closed to WOT and the car would maintain near-constant speed. now when i do that, the car jerks back and forth because it's actually reacting to the gas pedal input, no matter how deliberately stupid i'm being. it's delightful, especially now that i can rev match easier and it takes way less input to pull away at intersections.
    definitely subscribing since this is twice now that i've tried something from your videos with some really impressive results.

    • @ColtonRichter
      @ColtonRichter  Před 3 lety +1

      Thank you my friend, glad you had good results!
      It's something to do with ohms & all that jazz, not being grounded out completely or something... doesn't make sense but there is a logical theory to how it works!

      @gregorykusiak5424 Před 3 lety +3

      @@ColtonRichter the gasket prevents the TB mating surface from complete contact with the engine for grounding, so the electrical pixies can’t move as easily as they do with this mod, so the motor controlling the throttle plate doesn’t work like it should. I bet this mod makes the throttle body motor actuator last longer.

    • @duc696monster6
      @duc696monster6 Před 2 lety +5

      Cause DC flows from - to +, since the whole body of a car is -, so it acts a bit like a resistor, it takes few ms to flow the electrons, if you use a direct connection, the electrons have less resistance to "fight"so that's why the electronic switches or reacts faster, according to the comments it does make a noticable difference..

      Assuming it works the way it's described in the video (I don't have a Mazda myself so can't speak from any first-hand with-or-without testing), it sounds like Mazda engineers didn't allow a strong enough ground path in the design for the throttle body's electrical circuit. Toyota was notorious for also under-sizing wires in the electrical for their vehicles in the late 80s and well into the 90s.
      From watching the video, what I gather is that the positive lead to the throttle body is sufficient, but due to an undersized (or poor connection design) ground lead, too much resistance is introduced into the circuit and not allowing enough current to actuate the butterfly valve as quickly as it could be. Adding the secondary ground is providing enough of a ground path to allow enough current through the entire circuit to more quickly actuate the valve. With electrical systems, the point of the highest electrical resistance is what dictates how much power can travel through the circuit. Much the same was as a chain is only as strong as its weakest link.
      I'm curious to see now if the issue is the same in the Mazda 6 with the V6, since my GF has one. I've been planning to do the "big 3" electrical upgrade on it that I do on all my vehicles, and will likely do this as well.

      What makes sense to me about this mod- is adding the extra ground wire to Batt. negative or alternator case, is creating a parallel circuit to the factory harness ground. So, even if zero
      Ohms are measured from TB to batt. negative terminal, this reinforces the grounding, and might even create Negative resistance. Good grounds are Uber important!!

    Hey man, is this possible for the 2nd gen 2.5s? Also, do you think subwoofer wire would work? I have it connected to the battery already, no sub though, its from the previous owner

    • @011mpsguy
      @011mpsguy Před 3 lety

      It would most likely, 2nd gen platform between 2.3 and 2.5 is pretty much the same, 2L and under wouldn't be the same only difference is whats in your engine bay

      Sub wire can come in 8 gauge, so make sure it's 8 gauge.

  • @bluegasbeats
    @bluegasbeats Před 4 měsíci

    Yooo I just did this and I definitely feel it, I tried the first time and I didn’t clamp the metals together so it wasn’t tight so I test drove it and it felt the same so I was kinda sad that it didn’t work for my Mazda 6. After the test drive I popped the hood open again and it was disconnected from the battery bc it was loose, I then tried again and clamped the ends together so it wouldn’t be loose and the metals were touching and gave it another test drive and wow. It almost feels like I gained hp by doing this but i know it doesn’t 😂 The acceleration when i’m stopped is night and day from the original. I still have in the back of my mind that is just placebo, but I actually do believe it made a huge difference.

    • @chriswest5665
      @chriswest5665 Před 4 měsíci

      The things he puts on the end of the wire are called terminals, of which there are many types. The type he used is one of the most common types. The size needs to be appropriate.
      The wire size is given as 8 gauge. Gauge is a wire measurement based on the thickness. Higher numbers are thinner, lower is thicker. 8 gauge wire is pretty thick. Thicker wires can carry more electric current, in general.
