My dad has helped me to be a good woman, he has been both a mom and a dad to me for 6 years, but a dad for 13. ( Mom passed away 6 years ago) so my dad helps me try to understand a guy, and he does a great job of it.

So the correct form would be: Hablas español?, That is saying that : do you speak Spanish.?

You are right the way to teach a child or anyone for that matter is to 1st demonstrate then they give it ago.
But you can tell buddy is a perfectionist and probably couldn't help himself. But he should have let his son do the whole thing and just supervise him especially with the oven. It doesn't matter if it wasn't perfect its the thought that counts and would have been eben more special if dad had just watched. But beautiful cake.
