Yi fought one of the most heroic naval last stands ever. The Koreans had 10 ships which managed to hold off 100+ Japanese ships thanks to their knowledge of the currents in the straight they fought in. The flagship was the only one to enter combat initially since the others were pussies. But later they joined after they saw the flagship hold it's own.
I want to ask everyone a simple question. Without Ming China's intervention, do you think Korea could defeat Japan at that time? Remember nearly 90% of the Korea land had been conquered by Japan during the initial invasion. So what makes you think Admiral Yi could save the entire Korea at that time? Everyone got a wrong impression that Korea won the war because of Admiral Yi. He only helped to stop Japanese naval supplies, but the whole war was actually between Ming China vs Japan.

Joseon use 王 (wang, king) rather 皇帝 (huangdi/hwangje/emperor for the country leader. This mean Joseon king is *lesser* than Ming Emperor and *Joseon king must pay respects* to its "older brother" by *giving Ming China tributes*. This policy is called *Sadae Kyorin*. This kind of mindset is maintained since the first day of Joseon establishment. Joseon Korea is sovereign but *not fully independent, since the appointment of Crown Prince needs Ming Emperor's permission* via envoys. If only Joseon/Korean use Emperor as title and wearing yellow dragon robe, then Joseon position is equal with Ming China
Yi Sun-sin: Even though Korean wants to include Yi Sun-sin (李舜臣) as one of the three Greatest Admirals of the world, Horatio Nelson of the Britain who prevailed in the Battle of Trafalgar, John Paul Jones of the America who defeated the British for its independence, and Heihachiro Togo of Japan who defeated the Russia’s Baltic Fleet, he was not even a supreme commander, nor did he prevail in the battle Koreans claim to have won. To start with, throughout their history, Korea was the weakest in the region. Since the time of Yuan Dynasty, Korea had been a tribunary state of China for almost one thousand years. They always ask other countries to fight for Korea’s domestic issues like in the Korean War, and this is why they have no true national hero. Yi Sun-sin was merely a commander of a fleet out of many Joseon fleets, certainly not the admiral or the commander of the Ming-Joseon Navy. Not only he failed to defeat the Japanese navy, he could not them on the sea and allowed them to land on the Korean Peninsula. Japan at the time as the hay days of samurai and had the largest number of guns in the world with many experienced samurai in communications and modern battle tactics of the day. Korea on the other hand was merely a tribunary state of Ming with NO guns. There is no way Korean could beat Japan by itself. In fact, in the first dispatch, Japan conquered Seoul within one month, and Pyeongyang within two month capturing the prince of Joseon as a hostage while there was NO Japanese commander who was killed except for one who was assassinated during hawking. The only military exploit that Yi Sun-sin had against Japan was when he attacked “a supply fleet” and temporally cut off its supply route. But this is by no means being destroyed or defeated. He strategies were more like those of pirates or guerrillas such as setting fire on ships at night or attacking from the back of Japanese fleets after agreeing on cease-fire. Coward and so typical of the weak. Later, since the military leader of Japan, Hideyoshi who planned to conquer China through Korea, died of old age in Osaka, Japan agreed on cease-fire and retreated. But it is a blatant lie for Koreans to say that Yi Sun-sin was a great admiral of the world, defeated the Japanese navy, and is the one from whom the world’s other admirals learn from. However, you could at least say he had some brain, avoiding front-to-front battle with the mighty Japan.
Then, why did he run away to the mountain after the battle. Korean navy lost the command of the Sea completely after this battle? Why was Yi killed so easily by the nameless sailor? You have plenty of troubles to rationalize your belief. Korea lost the war. As a matter of fact, Korea has been losing every war in these 2000 years. You lost in the Korean war and Vietnam war lately. Do you have any memories?
Japan tried to conquer China, not Korea. Koreans were slaves of Chinese at that time. So they pathetically involved in the war because Korea was located along the pathway. It was lucky for them that Hideyoshi passed away during the war. That was the only reason Japan terminated the war. Basically, there is no meaning in the idea of invasion at that era. By the way, only Korean makes the argument in this video. This is the recorded fact. None of the historical description shows that Korea won the war.
伊藤博文 Shut the fuck up. I am guessing that you're one of those Nippon Kaigi's admirers or ass-kissers. Didn't the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki teach you anything? Or do you want to be bombed with nukes again?

Japan didn't have ships capable of crossing the Pacific ocean back then.
@@Crosmandohe distance between Sakhalin and japan is very short in nautical miles
2:24 The first ever divide between the north and south.
Not a vassal....
Do the 1948 Arab-Israeli War?
it has been on the list for a while
Ye ye Ye ye Ye ye Ye ye
Japan tried twice to conquer asia and failed...unless they are truly punished and split up like Germany, history will repeat
EXCUSEEEE me I mean *Korean
This is 4 minutes
Jurchens were also apart of Ming, more like autonomous tribes just like Tibet.
Yi Sun-sin:
Even though Korean wants to include Yi Sun-sin (李舜臣) as one of the three Greatest Admirals of the world, Horatio Nelson of the Britain who prevailed in the Battle of Trafalgar, John Paul Jones of the America who defeated the British for its independence, and Heihachiro Togo of Japan who defeated the Russia’s Baltic Fleet, he was not even a supreme commander, nor did he prevail in the battle Koreans claim to have won.
Shouldn't this be 3 minute history not what I find interesting
*stuff that I find interesting

how do you butcher every pronunciation can you at least research before posting something?
Korean history is the record of the never ending losing streak, isn't it?
伊藤博文 LOL dude your mind is so twisted. Not sure if you have figured out that Japanese are brainwashed.
伊藤博文 we didn't lose in the Korean war dumbass. Think before you say something.
You're welcome Korea.
哈哈哈,天大的笑話!五千年曆史的天朝居然被一個小小滿清打掛了,還好我們台灣貴族國姓爺保留了明朝皇室與漢文化。
Izzat Muhd
