I really like the way you guys have been editing these videos. We get to see the good shots and good runs. And bad shots too. Basically the most important parts of the matches and not have to sit for several hours to watch the whole matches. I think it's very well done . Thank you.

4 inch for all current Matchroom events. New cloth makes them play about the same as a 4.25 inch pocket with used cloth though.

Would love to know what Karl Boyes thought of how Shaw treated Sanderson during this match. He barely looked at him at times and treated him really poorly in my opinion. Thats not how a team works Jayson. What he needed was a bit of encouragement and support instead of Shaw blanking him. He even walked away from him immediately after the match, the whole thing I thought was disgraceful, highly disrespectful and very poor sportmanship. Shaw didnt play well himself so shouldnt be giving and cr*p to Sanderson. Showed his true character for sure.

I am a huge Woodward fan, but he is a choker. He seems to make huge mistakes at key times. He misses far too many easy shots or easy position plays. He has a huge amount of talent, but it gets tiresome seeing him make so many critical mistakes.

they need to experiment when pocket taper. it will practically only affect the rattles from the rail shots. first shot should be a miss.
it's not radical except that it's never been tried. you can just add 1 degree at a time. most, if not all, of the straight shots will still go in. it can also accentuate the look of cheating the pocket. for instance, the side pocket is already tapered. if it does affect the straighter shots (which i doubt it will), they can always adjust the slate depth of the pocket to fix it. there is more than just pocket width (while keeping parallel taper) you can change.
Per WPA Table Specifications, the tolerance on pocket cut angles is only +/- 1º. Pocket shelf, however, can vary by 3/8" on side pockets and up to 1-1/4" on corner pockets. I think pocket shelf, cloth condition, and ball condition are the table factors most likely to influence whether a given shot goes in or not.

i want them to experiment with a tapered pocket, like the side pocket is tapered and does not have parallel sides.
well all of the conditions you state of course affect everything. but specifically i am suggesting a pocket taper, which hasn't been experimented with. this will not affect all shots, but only shots like the first one, where it is "cheating" the pocket by too much. cheating by that much and still making it is a result of the rattle, which can be adjusted by the pocket taper. more taper will prevent these rattles from actually going in, and wont affect other shots by much.
so if you are saying you can change all those other conditions to prevent rattle, i am saying those changes affect all parts of the game equally. whereas if you only want to affect rail shot rattles, i believe pocket taper is the thing that fixes that specifically, and should be tested. without making the other parts of the game (too) difficult.
@@mescellaneous I am saying that the factors I mentioned have more influence because, presumably, the table meets WPA specs, or the specs of whatever governing body applies. What the tolerance means is that you cannot simply experiment with different angles and remain within specifications. I thought since this interests you, you would be familiar with those specifications. From the WPA:
"Horizontal Pocket Cut Angle: The angle must be the same on both sides of a pocket entrance. The cut angles of the rubber cushion and its wood backing (rail liner) for both sides of the corner pocket entrance must be 142 degrees (+1). The cut angles of the rubber cushion and its wood backing (rail liner) for both sides of the side pocket entrance must be 104 degrees (+1)."
Sorry, I misquoted earlier. It's not + or -. It's simply +1º. In any case, 142º is the minimum and 143º the maximum so you cannot alter the effective angle of the opening by more than 2º. By the way, the sides of the pocket opening are not parallel when the cushions are cut in accordance with these specifications. The opening is greater where the cushion changes direction than it is at the edge of the slate. The specified angles create a tapered pocket opening by design.
You are correct that a larger facing angle would result in more rattle but, as I hope I've illustrated, the specifications themselves limit how much larger that angle can be made. Therefore, I think the other table conditions will probably have more bearing on whether or not a shot drops in a sanctioned event.

the angles you mentioned are for cutting the pieces. by "larger facing angle would result in more rattle" you mean it would prevent a pocket right? why can't they increase 142 to a higher angle? or at least you are making it sound like it can't. is there a reason for 142 other than it seems close to parallel (135)? i assume if it was actually 135 it would be too easy.
as shown in the shot shaw shot, there is way too much leeway. the same angles but off of the rail would not make it with that kind of margin of error. of course they probably do not have a problem with it currently since it sounds like it hasn't been changed in a while. im just expressing that i dont think it looks good when shaw slopped it in like that.
@@PostUp_Time that is precisely what i am suggesting. it is already at a specific angle. it's not a radical change to suggest it could add a couple of degrees. not even one degree? all within experimentation of course, but i doesn't sound like it has been experimented with, especially as players seem to have gotten better at pocketing.
and as i mentioned in the other comment, it is only for rail shots where they cheat it by a large margin, as you can see in shaw's slop shot. it should have no effect on straighter shots at all. if it does, experiments can prove it. but really, it doesn't if you think about it. and then if it really does, you can always adjust the shelf.
you say side pockets are "common sense". can you explain why it is tapered and have that specific angle? hard to believe you would have an explanation for why it is that angle. for all of us, it is practically arbitrary at this point.
i think you are mistaken about whether you would shoot a side pocket shot if it were 90 degrees. it would be about the same, if not easier, because of the shelf and because it is a straight shot. and regardless of that mistaken conception, the issue of adjusting the corner pocket is how it interacts with rail shots. for most shots that do not involve the rail, minute changes to these angles will have little effect. a straight shot will eventually go in the pocket with an appropriate shelf distance.
even if i am totally wrong and it will ruin the game, i would like to see it tested. so far people only care about pocket width, which does affect the margin of error for rail shots, but at the same time can make it too prohibitive if taken to the extreme like a russian billiard table or something. i just think shaw slopped it in.
