Simple Shelves on French Cleat

- I have made more shelving for my woodworking shop. These shelves consist of a box with shelves that hang on a French cleat. The unit is made of two equal sides of ¾” plywood and four shelves. Dados are cut in the sides to receive the shelves and a cleat is put on the back to hang the shelf unit on the wall.

"If they're up on the wall where I can see them..." If your anything like me, every time you walk into the shop you'll look up and say "oh, I've got to turn out that bowl", then off to the project you came do to, and you'll forget about that bowl until the next time you walk in. Rinse, repeat....

Great video, as usual. In the past, for shop shelving boxes, I have used full DADOs on the top and bottom by offsetting the the top and bottom shelves by an inch - I think it adds a lot more strength and uses minimal space. . . They are harder to dust though.

Great info and very well done vid! Must have taken quite awhile to do the stop-motion work. Love that you show what you want to accomplish before showing how to do it; gives a context to your information so your audience knows what you are showing them.

Really fills up the back wall, It also looks nice when you open the main door! I've added shelving to my shop but didn't do the french cleat and I'm really starting to regret my choice.. I'll probably redo them in the new year!

Frank, if you're like me... putting the bowls up 10 feet in the air kind of seals the deal that they are now in a permanent home never to be touched again.... but wow.... look at the floor space you gained back!!
