Simple Shelves on French Cleat

  • I have made more shelving for my woodworking shop. These shelves consist of a box with shelves that hang on a French cleat. The unit is made of two equal sides of ¾” plywood and four shelves. Dados are cut in the sides to receive the shelves and a cleat is put on the back to hang the shelf unit on the wall.

The proportions of those shelves make them beautifully centered in the wall. It's like they were meant to be there. Nice job putting them in their place!

I am subscribed to a bunch of woodworking CZcams channels, but yours is the one that no matter what the project is (whether I think I'll build something similar or not) I just have to watch the videos. I love the humor, animation, and down-to-earth techniques that I mostly believe I could replicate.

"If they're up on the wall where I can see them..." If your anything like me, every time you walk into the shop you'll look up and say "oh, I've got to turn out that bowl", then off to the project you came do to, and you'll forget about that bowl until the next time you walk in. Rinse, repeat....
Great video, as always Frank. I love watching your stuff. I can't wait to see what you do with that live-edge blank in the second shelf.

Great video, as usual. In the past, for shop shelving boxes, I have used full DADOs on the top and bottom by offsetting the the top and bottom shelves by an inch - I think it adds a lot more strength and uses minimal space. . . They are harder to dust though.
