  • Hi all Wolf Lord Rho here!
Today we end our week long look, at the character of Jaghatai Khan... and man it's been a good one. BUT, we are ending on an absolute high... with the Khan riding out at the Siege of Terra!
Spoiler Warning to begin, the events we are discussing today are from the Horus Heresy Novel "The Lost and the Damned" by Guy Hayley. As always I really recommend you read the novel for yourself first. As that's the best way to enjoy the lore, for yourself. Not only that, we help to support the great Games Workshop and Black Library. Because without them, we don't have this amazing lore to talk about. Link: www.blacklibrary.com/the-horu...

The quintessential Sanguinius moment was probably in Titandeath where it described a single moment where He and his honour guard were descending from the heavens to kill a traitor emperor titan, and for a fleeting moment the loyalists saw in him everything they were fighting for whilst the traitors saw all they had rejected and turned their backs on. It was utterly sublime.

I think what is significant about the khans statement is that the emperors mistakes are forgiven. He still thinks the emperor was wrong, he knows the emperor was neither perfect not without error. But that the cost of the truth meant that even making the mistakes, even saying the lies, the emperors effort was justified. Perhaps the Khan would have done a better job teaching the imperium, but he sees now that the emperor was at least trying to do the right thing

The Khan's last vestige of strength, having been sapped by the rotten blade festering in his knee, looks up to see a giant of the Deathguard starting to raise a rusty war axe. The executioner taunts the Khan "We have broken you little Khan. My master will enjoy cultivating new plagues with your soul, festering and rotting for all eternity.". The Khan smiled. The audaciousness of this haulted the Deathgaurd executioner's axe. The Khan looked into the executioners puss filled eyes "Broken me?" he questioned. "No. I am not broken. If that is what your master desires then you have failed. You may yet take my head from this field but there will be no victory for you.". The executioner roars in rage as he starts to bring down his blade. The Khan's thoughts turn to his father, in this moment time seemed to crawl as though almost still, it was as though he had time to reflect on all his encounters with his father and take weight of it all in a new light. A a smile flickered once again on the Khan's face as in his mind he could only think of one last thing to say... For my father. For the Emperor.
A thunderous crash could be heard across the battlefield. The Khan waited for the fallout but he was confused... "There is no pain." he thought. Then he looked up and realized why. A wall of white and gold was all he could see, the color so divine it seemed to glow with holy light. "The Angel." The Khan realized as he grinned once again. "Of course it would be you.". Sanguinius finally steps to one side as he drew is sword back through the executioner just in front him. The being had been cleaved into two pieces, one falling to either side of the massive blade. The Angel turns and looks downward while giving out a hand "You do not die this day brother. We still yet have need of you.". "We?" the Khan asked in a slight jest. It was Sanguinius's turn to smile "Yes we brother. The Empire, father, and even I." Sanguinius looked down at the ground littered with devastation and fallen brothers as his mood changed from relief to sadness and rage... "I have lost far too much to this rebellion. No more.".

I love how Sanguinius and Jaghatai love each other. Jaghatai intentionaly stood distant to his brothers. He didnt want unnecessary conflict, and he didnt want his work criticised poorly and disturbed. He had no intention of joining a genital measurement contest. He just wanted to ride into the heart of the enemy and fight, a good cause was his excuse to let his hunger for adrenaline and action be satisfied. But even with his cation towards his brothers Sanguinius saw the man behind the infamy, reputation and titles. The khan, found brotherly compassion in Sanguinius. And he appreciates it.

Dorn has solid logical thinking, with a stoic and pragmatic approach that makes him more humane than Perturabo while remaining every bit as efficient. He can understand all he needs about the Warp: that it threatens his family and people, that it cannot be reasoned with, and that is enough for him to cut its nightmare spawns down.

Funnily enough, Dorn is SO logical and even somwthing close to what you might call an atheist, that his psychic talents manifested as Dorn being a living anti-warp device. His will is so great and his faculties so uncompromising that the Warp itself literally fizzles out and dissipates in his presence in a way the Sisters of Silence wish they could emulate. He isn't a blank or anything like it and he doesn't have the anti-psyker aura of Russ. It's his own thing but it genuinely is a thing though.

I must give Dorn some credit, he gave the white scars operations they would be able to do and willing to do.
like in a siege like this the mere act of using your tool for what they want to do like this is both efficient and extremely taxing on Dorn, Dorn essentially is playing it safe in a chess game against Perutorabo, he could have used the White Scars within the walls to use the fact that they are Astartes and therefore should be able to fight a standard style of defence, so like give Dorn some credit essentially playing cards with half his hand showing by employing his brothers in the tasks that suit their character more than the situation at large.
    to be blunt, but efficient.
like some may argue that Dorn is just letting the khan lose like a dog but Leman was kept inside the palace until he made peace with himself and left to finish his job as an executioner of the emperor.
    -
So this is an act of brotherhood, to have the Imperial fist, Blood Angles, White Scars and Dark Angle fight as one.

When I first got into warhammer lore I didn’t care for the khan, no reason, I just didn’t see anything interesting about him. But because of this channel he has become one of my favorite if not my favorite primarch.

Sangy and the Khan is an interesting pairing. Sangy is essentially the Emperor (light) but with more humanity and flaws (though idk if the Khan knew about those) and the Khan noticed his reluctance in being that but also his acceptance which is essentially a mirror of the Khan. Fought against the idea of a tyrant subjugating his people but knows that hostility is inevitable with everything else in the universe.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that finds the side plots somewhat of a distraction. Sometimes they are done well, but other times they can feel like chaff/filler. Jumping between the main plot and the weaker side plot seems to be the standard formula for 40K novels. I wish they would write more books which stick with the main plot/characters throughout.
