Russia on the Situation in Venezuela - Press Conference (11 April 2019)

  • Press Conference by Mr. Dmitry Polyanskiy, Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the United Nations.
Russian Ambassador Dmitry Polyanskiy today (11 Apr) said that efforts to revoke the credentials of Venezuela’s representative to the United Nations, and to recognize interim president Juan Guaidó are “an outrageous attempt to impose on an independent country a will of another country” and a “blunt attempt of coup d’état.”
Polyanskiy said Samuel Moncada “is a legal representative of Venezuela, he has all the credentials. He was appointed according to the practice that is common in the United Nations, and we have absolutely no reason to behave vis-à-vis him in this way claiming that he is not a legal representative of his country and his government.”
Asked about the arrival of Russian military planes and personnel in Venezuela, he said “we don’t see any reasons to curb our relations with Venezuela at this stage, especially when this country needs assistance, all kinds of assistance, so a lot of countries, including this one, are shouting at every corner that Venezuela needs assistance, but we are actually the ones who are really rendering this assistance.”
Those who want to help Venezuela, the Russian diplomat said, “they have all the possibilities to do so.”
He added that “the United States do not want to help this country in this way. They want to make a problem out of this. They want to kind of show that the current government is absolutely incapable of dealing with this aid. That allegedly this government will steal the whole aid and will not give it to the people. That’s the picture that they want to create in public opinion which is totally false picture.”
Asked about whether he expected these efforts to succeed at the United Nations, Polyanskiy said, “if I were in the shoes of the Americans I would think twice really, maybe even three times before proceeding with such a move.”
On the nature of the announcement made by US Vice President Mike Pence at the Security Council, he said, “it was not clear, he mentioned simply resolution, I don’t know, maybe he means Security Council resolution, who knows. You can expect everything from Americans. Or maybe it will be President Trump’s resolution sent to the Security Council for approval.”

Just a hunch in the Trump thing. I based my decision on the matter from the Venezuelan people. The only countries in support of Maduro consist of China, Turkey, Russia and Cuba compared to the 20 or more countries that side with Guaido. Why did Russia take their gold and send troops? America has only sent aid and they block that from coming into the country. Every South American countries surrounding Venezuela wants the Maduro regime to end. They took the most resource-rich country in the southern hemisphere with unlimited potential and ran it into the ground with socialist/communist views thanks to half of the countries that support them, Russia and China.

Dmitry is quite well spoken and answered questions clearly and concisely. I love how articulate and diplomatic he is. I am glad he has elaborated on Russia's position on Venezuela without conjecturing, although his humor is quite scathing sarcasm on American and UK actions and statements. I would very much want to hear him talk about other situations because he is calm, polite, and likeable.

Theirs is just a front a fake it to make it and to fool the world that they are the good guys. Venezuela is in crisis and all you have to do is look at Cuba as I have and seen it in person and all you see is poverty and destruction while they, the communist ruling party have it all. There is no love for their people only for themselves and that is what Russia will end up being for Venezuela too. Be careful what you wish for.
