It is maybe that these people give importance to the Rock so that they can fulfil their desire to build the so-called Temple of Solomon on the ruins of al-masjid al-aqsa. This is by making the muslims think that al-masjid al-aqsa is the Dome of the Rock.

Dr. Asher Kaufman's work, based on topological and archaeological evidence, suggests the First and Second Temples were located about 330 feet north of the Dome of the Rock.
The outcrop -- "The Rock" -- beneath the dome is part of the local bedrock. Southward from this point its elevation drops rapidly toward the City of David, but northward it is relatively level for over 100 meters and is located just beneath the paving stones. A small Muslim domed shrine, known as the "Dome of the Tablets" and the "Dome of the Spirits" is located there. The naive bedrock is exposed there. Kaufman proposes this as the actual site of the Holy of Holies in the Temple. Space-wise, the present Temple Mount could accommodate a Third Temple at this site without removing the Dome of the Rock.
The alternate site has the advantage of being directly in line with the Golden Gate on the mount's east side, unlike the Dome of the Rock. It is only one meter lower in elevation than the rock beneath the Dome of the Rock. Assuming Kaufman's work has merit, I wonder if the more famous rock could have been the site of the Chamber of Hewn Stone. There is a cave beneath the rock's surface as well as a shaft that goes from the surface down into the cave that is, I have read, dated to the Bronsze Age. It would have been suitable for storing grain when this area was Arunah's threshing floor and it would account for the "hewn stone" name in the Second Temple period when it was one of the locations where the Sanhedrin met.

But the Dome may be significant too, as per Ezekiel 41:8:
"Ezekiel (pbuh) looked the temple and saw its height 'And I saw that the House had a height (גֹּבַהּ) round about' (Ezekiel 41:8).
The wording of this verse is somewhat unusual. Nowhere else does he give height. Also even here he doesn't give any number.
It is perhaps significant that the word for height is GoBah, which comes from the same root as "back" and "arch", linguistically related to Arabic قبة QoBah, or dome. In this sense the verse would be read: "And I saw that the House had a Dome, round about".
So one can state that Ezekiel 41:8 has been fulfilled.

When I posed this question to Rabbi I wanted to hear about his personal feelings when he sees the Dome where the Temple once was. Is it sadness, disgust, hope, etc.? It wasn't my intent to have him speak for all Jewish people or as an ecumenical or anything like that. Just what his personal thoughts and feelings were. The second part of the question was more historical opinion as to why the Jewish people never attempted to reclaim possession of the Mount. It would seem to me that the Jewish people would see it as an abomination or defilement of the most holy of places in Judaism. Unfortunately, neither question were answered. I'm not sure if he misunderstood the question or not. It's hard to the frame questions when you only have 150-200 characters to do it in.

I think many Jews (myself among them) are content to wait for the coming of moshiach to deal with the issue and are not interested in fomenting the religious war which would result from taking down the Dome of the Rock (in the way that so many Jewish sites were desecrated or destroyed in the Old City when it was in the hands of Jordan).

Even Joshua and many of the Levites again and again reminded the Jewish folk to write the commandments on their forehead and seal it in their hearts they did otherwise. I trust The Tanakh is Canonical collection and it is Holy. Why didn't they follow it being the chosen people? Why did Israel kings and Kings of Judah fought each other, belonging to the same brotherhood? When I read the Old Testament I see how Israel fell and became a minor population. When Jeshua walked among Jewish folk as Messiah, they rejected Him and killed him as written on Isaiah : 53 and Psalms : 22. What is your faith really based on?

I would like to answer the question, differently that Rabbi Singer.
Unlike the common answer given, based on midrash and commentaries. This location was the where the Holy Of Holies, for the House of the Name. That was designed by King David and Built by David's son, King Solomon.
As a hill, it is not taller than any hill around it 'Yet". What I find that makes this location the "Most Important Place on Earth, comes from the dedication prayer of King Solomon. In that "1 Kings 8:15 And he said: 'Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who spoke with His mouth unto David my father, and hath with His hand fulfilled it, saying: 16 Since the day that I brought forth My people Israel out of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel to build a house, that My name might be there; but I chose David to be over My people Israel." From this I find 'house, that MY NAME might be there". Very important. This is only the lead in to the pray.
The meat of the pray: "1Kings 8:28 Yet have Thou respect unto the prayer of Thy servant, and to his supplication, O LORD my God, to hearken unto the cry and to the prayer which Thy servant prayeth before Thee this day; 29 that Thine eyes may be open toward this house night and day, even toward the place whereof Thou hast said: My name shall be there; to hearken unto the prayer which Thy servant shall pray toward this place." This is of paramount importance for the prayer. Why? Like this from "Deuteronomy 32:20 And He said: 'I will hide My face from them, I will see what their end shall be; for they are a very froward generation, children in whom is no faithfulness.": "I will hide My Face from them" So when HE Hides HIS face, will HE Hear your prayers?
In "Jeremiah 11:11 Therefore thus saith the LORD: Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape; and though they shall cry unto Me, I will not hearken unto them."
I present this as the reason for King Solomon's prayer, at these a major portion of that prayer. But wait, prayer is only a request. Don't we need an answer? I say yes. It should direct and to the point.
"1 Kings Chapter 9:3 And the LORD said unto him: 'I have heard thy prayer and thy supplication, that thou hast made before Me: I have hallowed this house, which thou hast built, to put My name there for ever; and Mine eyes and My heart shall be there perpetually." So the Place of the NAME, where the Holy of Holies was, still has the NAME THERE. A HE That placed it THERE will SEE and HEAR prayers place toward THIS PLACE. Even when HE refuses to hear any where else, we have HIS WORD.
Is it not strange that such a building as the Dome of The ROCK(for me causes appalment) by those that do not keep the Covenants, Teachings and LAWS by the Hand of Moses, should build such a thing to cover a rock?

Destruction of the Babri Masjid mosque in 1992 did not usher in any great era of Hindu peace, on the contrary. The Dome of the Rock is especially beautiful on the inside, which is not often shown. Looking forward to it's destruction is only more irrational hate and desire for revenge, instead of preserving a rare artifact of historical shared spiritual humanity. Like the Taliban destroying ancient Buddhist and Babylonian sculptures, how would this show the strength of any religion? Would leveling the pyramids really prove the superiority or manifestation of anyone's "faith"? Rabbi, you always offer valuable, thoughtful knowledge but I'm surprised by this clever but incomplete and evasive position. In our ignorance we keep trying to hang on to the past, and we cling to our arrogance by assuming we know the mind of God about our future.

0:06 Well ok; but HaShem parked the Dome and Al Aqsa on The Temple Mount for a reason. It's THE EPICENTRE FOR WORLD PEACE. 0:39 The question appears to be indirectly asking why Judahism hasn't destroyed the Islamic architecture. 0:48 Well if we think about the Rock part, it's the FOUNDATION stone of the Abrahamic/Ibrahimic. If we think about the Dome part, well it's very simple; first there was Abraham/Ibrahim; and the last of the Abrahamic religions is Islam. So from the Rock part to the Dome part is the completion of the circle. 0:50 No Rabbi. It's ALL 'important'. Unless you suggest that HaShem doesn't know why he parks things where he parks them. The Rock is 'important'; the Temple Mount is 'important', and the Islamic sites are 'important'. And the 'importance' will be completed when The Third Temple stand on The Temple Mount ALONGSIDE Al Aqsa and the Dome and WORLD PEACE has been achieved. Judahism has a CONTRACT with HaShem. And that CONTRACT is WORLD PEACE. World Peace CAN'T come from deciding that some 'parts' of HaShem's building plans are 'more important' than others. It's ALL 'important'! Unless you're declaring the whole of Islam to be 'not important'. 1:05 True. The Brahmanical is pre-Earth. 1:31 Clearly. Otherwise Islam wouldn't have built the Dome on the Rock. 2:04 Ok. But that doesn't sort out the Temple Mount and the 'positioning' of the Third Temple.

Love is an action. Feed the hungry, house the homeless, father the orphan, and protect the defenseless and vulnerable.
Read the Word for yourself, not only relying on others for guidance. Pray for guidance.Yahushua/Yeshua - His Hebrew name who is usually called (Jesus) taught to keep the whole Word. Including the Law/Torah. Matthew 5:17 “Do not presume that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish, but to fulfill. 18 For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not [g]the smallest letter or stroke of a letter shall pass from the Law, until all is accomplished! 19 Therefore, whoever nullifies one of the least of these commandments, and teaches [h]others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever [i]keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven." Read 1 John. John tells us that sin is lawlessness, and that we must keep the commandments. Trust in the atonement of Yahushua/Yeshua who is usually called Jesus, and keep God (YHWH)'s whole Word/commandments. Revelation 12:17 So the dragon was enraged with the woman, and went off to make war with the rest of her children, who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus. Revelation 14:12 Here is the perseverance of the saints who keep the commandments of God and their faith in Jesus. There is no more death. There is no need for Jesus to do anything with respect to eternal life. This has been God's plan all along and He doesn't need anyone's help. Salvation comes through following God's guidance as taught by all the prophets including Jesus. And then God shows mercy to whomever He chooses to.
