Oh my gosh. I'm a crocheter trying to teach myself to knit. I have watched about a dozen of these cast-on videos and was starting to think I would NEVER learn how to do it. Thank you so much for a clear, simple way to cast on Maybe I'll be a knitter yet!
Very good demonstration! I learned to knit 60 years ago! lol We were taught this method by saying a little rhyme. "In through the bunny hole, round the wee tree, out through the bunny hole and off goes she."
This is the BEST casting on video EVER!!!
This is just what I needed. A slow demonstration of casting on stitches. Thank you!!
By golly gee...I've got it!!! You may have thought this was too slow when making this video but this is PERFECT for me. Thank you for "dumbing it down"
Finally a clear and easy to follow tutorial. This has been driving me crazy. This is what I've been struggling with for a week now. Thank you!
I cried, due to frustration, took a break, came back; I have 12 stitches casted! whew. Could not have done it without you! Grateful to find your channel.
Yay, you did it. Please keep watching and learning to love to knit. It's a great hobby. Please subscribe if you haven't already. New video today..
I just can't tell you how much this video has helped me. This is exactly what I needed and have been unable to find until now. You've save me from swearing like a sailor again.
This slow Cast on video is so clear and helpful. Thank you so much!
Glad it worked for you. Please keep watching and have fun knitting. New video today.
@@raineyholley83 thank you!
i knew how to knit before casting on! but thanks to your video I can do both LOL ☺
Michelle B me too lol
You're a great teacher! Slow, clear, talking as you do it, and repeating again and again! This is how I learn! :)
It’s been so long since I knit I had to relearn how to cast on. Thanks for being here for me, Judy!
Just came over from another video that had me throwing my needles away in frustration. This is actually understandable, even if I am still super-clumsy (I still can't handle both needles and the yarn without one slipping). Thanks!
+LynxChan Same here!
+April Davis Davis. Ik heb .
LynxChan i slip all the time too just don’t give up!
Thank you! Very slow and easy to follow :).
I think you are a lovely lady for taking YOUR time to try and teach people how to knit. All the haters and people saying nasty things should shut their mouths and be respectful enough to realise that maybe THEY are just too "Simple" to "get it." Keep up the lovely work :)
I have bought books and videos. This is the ONLY tutorial that made sense! Thank you so much, Judy!
This video was so perfect! Thank you! I have watched family members do it, other videos but this is by far the best! A finally did my first row of 31 as that's how many I needed and I'm so proud and so thankful, once again thanks!
Welcome to the knitting community. I'm so glad my video helped you get started. Please keep watching and learning and please like me on my facebook page too.
I agree. I'm teaching my granddaughter. Thank you Judy!
Thanks this helped so much I'm 10 and I found this so easy
Ur 14 now!
You are the best teacher!!!!! Thank you Judy!!!!!!!!!
Thank you so much for this! Used to knit with my grandmother and she always cast on for me, so when I came to doing it myself I was stumped! Really helpful video, has helped me get back into knitting 😊
Thank you so much.. been trying so long and couldn't do it. The videos were so fast. You method made it so easy for me. Again thank you
Zen Riv AQ
Waw! Thanks so much...at last I can knit with that easy tutorial...thank you.
❤❤
thank you sooooo much. an hour later i finally found someone to teach me to cast on. ive been crocheting for a year and a half now. i want to learn to knit so this is my 1st lesson ;)
This is very similar to how I learned to knit many years ago. I am starting to get back into it. All those lovely knits in the series Outlander are making me want to knit a cozy cowl. Great video. Speed was perfect.
Best video ever, thank you so much. I have watched so many videos, after watching this one I have finally got it. You are the best. So simple, you are a great teacher.
very helpful - thank you!!
Judy, My mother is terminally ill. I am constantly trying to find things for her to do to keep her spirits up. She used to do the most extraordinary knitting projects. She agreed to try knitting again but was having trouble remembering how to cast on. I do lots of different types of crafts but never learned how to knit so I couldn't help her. Last night I found your video and successfully casted on the first 43 stiches. She was thrilled. So there you go, your video helped to give my mother another reason to live. Thank you very, very much.
Yaaay. After 40 years and a very frustrated grandmother and mother trying to teach me . ..I have actually managed to cast on! Thank you so much.
Well, patience pays off. Have fun knitting now. Please subscribe and like my facebook page. New video today.
This is so easy thank u, its easier than how Expressionfiberarts teaches u
omg thanks so much!
This is the first time I've attempted to knit since my grandma passed away; growing up she would always cast on for me. Thank you so much for your patience and calm instructions. I will definitely be checking out your other videos.
And now that you know you'll be able to pass it on to others. Please subscribe and like me on facebook. New video today.
I am in a similar situation, my nan taught me how to knit, crochet and sew when I was 6, however she would always cast on and cast off for me, she sadly passed away when I was 12, I still kept knitting and would get help from her sister, my great aunty who sadly passed away late last year, then when I was abit older I felt ready to learn how to cast on but then I suffered a traumatic brain injury and never learnt, this video is exactly the way my nan cast on and even on occasions would try to show me and teach me, I just felt it too confusing for some reason, today marks the day she passed away and first time in almost 10 years since my first tbi I feel ready to pick up knitting again, I hope you have managed to learn how to cast on and start knitting again, I'm sure your grandma will be so proud of you for picking up knitting again and learning to cast on
@@tvaholicsquidney - Oh my goodness, this actually made me tear up. Firstly, I am so very sorry for the loss of both your grandmother and great aunt. One of my favorite great aunts (my grandmothers sister-in-law) passed away maybe 8 years ago and I was utterly devastated by it. I also have trauma-related cognitive issues so found knitting both very soothing, but also very frustrating because I would forget whether I was doing the knit or purl stitch halfway through a row. My first attempt at a scarf is a little wonky, but I'm going to embroider a bit on it and use it as a wall hanging tapestry. Your kindness has motivated me to start again, so thank you so much for that. I hope you're having the best day you can, friend.
@@evrichardson6995 Hi Ev, thank you for your kind words, I'm sorry about the loss of your great aunt, I hope you are remembering the good times you two had together.
I just thought I'd check in to see how you have got on, I'm going to be honest I sort of forgot and only remembered yesterday when I saw my bag of wool I'd got and the new knitting needles I'd got from my local knitting shop, these new ones are the ones I'd used for years and I'd learnt on the metal ones and using bamboo didn't feel the same so am going to try and do some knitting tomorrow and hope for the best with the new metal knitting needles I'd got (I got two pairs and when they knocked together I just was transported back to when I was a young child sat next to my nan knitting away hearing the sound of the metal knitting needles hitting each other, it made me smile), I'm going to try and crochet a blanket as well however not going to put too much on my shoulders and just start off relatively slow by knitting a scarf in the griffindor colours of harry potter, I understand about the frustrating about forgetting which type of stitch you are on, I hope you manage a way around this, my nan used to have the knitting pattern (written and bought) and would put something (that didn't roll) on said pattern and would move it down everytime she went to the next stitch/row, this way she wouldn't forget which line/stitch she was doing at that time, it also helped when she was mid way through and had to go sort tea/dinner out, hope this helps yourself out, I'd use either a ruler or maybe a safety pin if you have any and that way you put the safety pin over said line, when you finish move it down so you can see inside the safety pin which line/row/stitch you are currently on, hope you are well and staying safe, take care, siobhan.
@@tvaholicsquidney Hi Siobhan, thank you so much for checking up on me. It was my grandma's birthday the end of October and that was really rough; I don't feel ready to be without her, and yet it has somehow already been almost three years? I had a really big cry and it helped me feel a bit lighter. The Gryffindor scarf sounds like a great project, and I will definitely look into getting knitting patterns with the safety pin! How are you holding up? Are there any other sounds that make you think of your nan or your great aunt? Take good care, Ev.
Judy, you are an absolute star. Thank you so much for this video!
Thank you for slowing it down to a real beginner's level! I am 46, with another diagnosis with cancer and lots of time of thinking....I have wanted to try this for some time now. A good friend at my church has been showing me but she did the casting on and I wanted to try a project on my own....thank you!
thankyou so much this helped alot
This is so clear and helpful! The best tutorial for casting on that I have seen. Thank you!
Today was my first day learning and with this video I learned very quickly! patience is needed ladies. :)
This helped so much, thanks Judy!

I have seen many ways of casting on but this is the best by far. Thank god I found this, it's much neater
Why, thank you, Judy! What a treat. You are giving the best gift of all-knowledge. Teachers are the real superheros. Where's your cape?
*I still can’t do it, this doesn’t help but thanks for doing it slow :)*
You can do it. It just takes practice. I recommend walking away from it when you get frustrated, then come back to it later. At some point it will just click.
Thanks, I actually know how to now aha!
thank you so much now I know how this is the best way to learn I didn't understand how to do it on another video!
Thank you. This was very helpful. I plan to look up more of your videos. You made it very easy to start
Oh my goodness, THANK YOU for this video! Your instructions for how to transfer the new loop back to the left needle are what finally just made casting on click for me. I'm very excited right now!
U made it easy & clear. Thanks a lot for the useful video.
Glad it worked for you. Please keep watching and have fun kntting. New video today.
Imani, I hope you stuck with it and learned how to cast on. It's so fun to knit.

Thanks so much, very helpful 🐺
I watched about 15 - 20 tutorials and there were several ways on how to create the slip knot and cast on. This was by far the best one as easiest one to learn on how to do it. I like cross stitching and thought I would try knitting. I’m a 47 year old man and am bored with this Coronavirus homebound period. Thanks for your time and video!
Thanks for the nice comment. Welcome to the world of knitting. Please keep watching and learning. Stay safe. Stay in and knit!
Thank you for this video! I don't knit often and sometimes need a video to remind me how to start (or finish) off. Very helpful, thank you again
Thank you SO much!
ahhhhhh!! I must be trying to do this with feet instead of fingers! this is frustrating
SAME!!!
Don't give up you can do this.
😂
This is PERFECT! I've been going through videos all afternoon until I found you. This is exactly the way my mother showed me to cast on, 30 years ago. It's just like I remember, and I'm looking forward to getting started on my new-old hobby again. Thank you so much, Judy, I'm looking forward to watching more of you!
Excellent tutorial. I haven't knitted in 64 years (went the crochet route). Now that I'm older, I wanted to knit again and your video was just what I needed. Thank you. On to the knit stitch.
I hope you'll continue to watch and learn and have fun knitting. Please subscribe and like my facebook page. New video today.
THANK YOU!!! This helps a lot!
Ugh!
You should've posted the link for the next step - knitting.
Edit:
okay, I found it. "The Knit stitch video"
Glad you found it. Have fun knitting and subscribe if you haven't already.

I have no idea why people would downvote this video. It's one way of casting on, and frankly it's a very simple and easy way for beginners to learn. If it doesn't work for you, or you don't care for it, move on. Downvoting is unnecessary, isn't it? Much love to you Judy!
Thank you. Couldn't have said it better. I love to knit and hope others do too, no matter how they cast on.
Finally! Someone who gets the kind of demonstration I need! Thank you SO much!
I tried with metal needles and it didn't work for me, I'm very stubborn when it comes to stuff and I have to do it until its correct and looking the way its suppose to. I decided to buy bamboo needles since everyone says they are easier to use and doesn't slide as much as the metal.
Kristin Harman where do i find bambo needles
So after this I need to learn the knit stitch?

Knit stitch, and then casting off, and eventually the purl stitch =)
Watched multiple videos until I found this one and got it right away, well done.
Finally, a cast on video that has taught me the proper way to cast on! Thank you!
easy peasy! thanks
Still kept falling off my needle and I did everything u said
This a nice way to cast on stitches! Thank you Ms. Judy--you are such a very nice teacher! Knitting is very fun!!
The best 'cast on' video ever. Many thanks.
Wow, thank you. I hope you continue to watch and learn. New video today. Please subscribe if you haven't already and have fun knitting!
Thanks alot. You are so kind and helpful.God bless you.
why is this so easy for everyone I suck at everything
Thank you so much! I was frustrated all day until I found this video! Now I am enjoying this!
thanks, judy! my mom tried teaching me and i watched many other videos until i came across this and your other video and they've been the most helpful to me. i actually have hope that i can do this now ;)
I DO HOPE YOU FOUND A CAST ON THAT YOU COULD DO BECAUSE KNITTING IS SO FUN AND REWARDING.
I don't understand
Keep watching, keep trying.
Using my husband's PC, but just wanted to say that this video is excellent! I've been knitting for years, self taught and hate casting on. Watching this video, very precise, has helped me to see where I was making my mistake. One note, when you say pull the need to the front, note that the need comes under the loop you've created. That's where I used to mess up and my first loop was always twisted, But you have helped immensely!
My grandma recently passed away and she was one heck of a knitter. She could do anything, and super fast. I knitted a lot as a child because YARN is amazing and I really wanna pick it up again as a memory of her :) this totally jogged my memory on how to cast on , thx
Thankyou so much for teaching me to cast on! I love sewing and making clothes, this has opened up a new chapter in making clothes for me :D Wooooo
Thank you for showing the cast on in this slow manner. Easy to follow. I can cast on as I watch the video at the same time.
Thank you Judy, I had a stroke, and almost everyone's videos are to fast for me to follow. I appreciate the slow version 😁🙏🏻
thanks for your videos Judy, the easiest to understand. Finally, I found someone to teach me!
thank you. I always refer to this video for casting on. Thank you for being so clear, patient and generous.
Your patience is so helpful! I've been hanging onto some yarn for months, forgetting how to start. Thanks much!!!
Hi Judy! I knit/crochet on and off so I always need a refresher course when I start a new project. I tend to try out different tutorial videos but I find myself always coming back to yours. Hope they stay here forever. :) And thank you!!!
Your comment makes me so happy. Please subscribe if you haven't already. so you don't miss anything. New videos on Tuesdays.
Thank you! Thank you! This is how my grandmother taught me to cast on. Its been 30 years since I've tried to cast on. This was very well explained.
Oh my gosh thank you! This is the first video to explain what i need to be doing thoroughly:)
I just can't thank you enough! I learned to knit years and years ago when I was in Girl Scouts (Brownies, actually!) and I made a simple scarf, earned my badge, then never knitted again, shamefully. Now that I'm older, I've been wanting to take up knitting as a hobby, but I couldn't remember how to cast on. This is *just* how I learned to do it all those years ago. I knew it as soon as I saw your demonstration. Thank you very, very much!
I always come back to this video for every project I start. Thank you Judy!
Glad to have you coming back. Stay safe. Stay in and knit!
I just found your video and I wanted to thank you. I taught myself to knit 30 yrs. ago but got so frustrated with the cast on method the book taught me, with the 2 long strands, I gave up. I could never figure out how much to leave on the tail end to cast on the amount of stitches I needed. Now I'm back and trying to learn new methods. I'm so glad I found your's.

This was so so helpful, I really appreciate how carefully you described it and lovely calm demonstration. Thank you!
Thank you so much! I watched the video over about 4 times. I got it now! Yay!
This is brilliant, thank you. I'm now casting on much more effectively.
Thank you for this video! My 7 year-old son, who learned to finger knit about a year ago, has been wanting to learn how to knit with needles. After watching several other videos with no success, this video was finally the ticket! Thank you for taking the time to teach knitting!
JUDY THANK YOU VERY MUCH. I HAVEN'T KNITTED IN 30 YEARS AND COULDN'T REMEMBER HOW TO CAST ON.....YOUR SLOW VERSION IS AWESOME AND HELP ME A GREAT BIT......KEEP ON KNITTING!!!!!!!!
Thanks for letting me know. Isn't it great to be knitting again?
I learned how to knit when I was ten and this is what I learned...SO FUN and EASY
You won't believe how many videos I watched tonight trying to cast on! You speak my language! Thank you!
This is the first time I have actually managed to learn how to cast on, as I child I found it so hard I made up my own way. Thank you sooo much :) You have changed my knitting life xxx
I have known how to crochet for years. I wanted to learn how to knit too. Most of the books and the patterns talked about casting on so many but wouldn't explain it. This is a wonderful video for beginners!!!!
What a treasure you are. Thank you so much. I am so happy :)
Wow, thank you! I have recently picked up knitting (even joined a knitting club at work) but I'm extremely bad at knots and how to navigate my needle.
I have read so many tutorials but nothing beats a video that explains the step very slowly. Also, the way you transfer the knot from the right to the left needle is perfect! I have read tutorials that require you to take out the needle, and start again, which is a little bit hard for me because my yarn gets frayed... :)
Thanks again for the extremely patient video :D
Thank you! I used to know how to knit but have been out of practice for a very long time. I just needed a refresher and this was great. Thank you again!
Thank you ! This is the only video so far that didn't make everything so confusing
I'm a teacher and I use this method. It's great and this video was excellent as it allowed students a return reference point to hel themselves. Not complicated and beautifully explained. Thanks so much :D!
Thank you for the lovely comment. Glad to hear from you.
This was just what I needed! I watched several other videos before finding this one, and your way of showing it and explaining it clicked =) Thanks so much!!
i am back judy i watched your videos a few years ago during a knitting phas. well it is time to knit again so i remembered how clear your video was. thank you
