  • Jeff Marek and Elliotte Friedman open this edition of 32 Thoughts by looking back at the two Stanley Cup Playoff games from Tuesday night. First they focus on the incredible comeback by the Colorado Avalanche over the Dallas Stars. Then they delve into the Rangers win over the Hurricanes (9:21). The playoff talk is parked when Jeff and Elliotte shift focus to the NHL Draft Lottery that saw San Jose land the first overall pick and the opportunity to draft Macklin Celebrini (20:02). Then, the fellas dive into the latest news across the NHL, including the Ottawa Senators hiring Travis Green as Head Coach (26:40), the Blues removing the interim title from Drew Bannister (35:11), reactions to the Rob Blake presser in LA (41:00), and they talk about the career of Rick Bowness, who announced his retirement from the NHL this week (46:36). They wrap the first segment by talking about the latest regarding the Toronto Maple Leafs (52:32).
    The guys answer your questions in the Montana’s Thought Line (1:02:58).
    The fellas wrap the pod by previewing the Bruins-Panthers and Canucks-Oilers series (1:13:49).

    1:09:00 isn’t a penalty that results in a penalty shot on an empty net an automatic goal?

    They should have called embellishment on Robertson for collapsing as if he got shot in the head when he just got love tapped on the side of his helmet. Hintz call was borderline but Robertson was obvious.

    I attended a Flyers-Devils game in Philadelphia in early December of 2006 (after attending the Army-Navy football game across the parking lot earlier in the afternoon) and I remember seeing two display cases on the concourse level of the First Union Center that contained a collection of hats that had been thrown on the ice from previous Flyer home hat tricks.

    5 games of OT in a playoff (NHL) is the record, which has been done 3 times.
    The 50-51 Leafs/Canadiens series was the 1st, with the Leafs winning 4 games to 1.

    Carolina doesn't have home ice in this series. There will be at least 50% Rangers fans in Raleigh.

    As they pointed out on the broadcast, the cross check that led to the game winner occurred in the offensive zone with the Rangers trying to score. You have to take that into account when deciding if it's a penalty or not. On the broadcast, Ferraro mentioned if it happens somewhere else on the ice it probably won't be called, and I think that's the right way to look at it.

    I've always held this podcast and specifically Elliot in the highest regard, the a side, couple of gripes, obviously big Ranger fans over here, double overtime does not get the lead, add this crew in the list of people waiting for the Rangers to fail, and obviously I'm from the tri-state area and have watched Wood play a ton of hockey but how can you guys be surprised that Wood wins a foot race up the ice, everybody knows the guy has jets

    Outside of Tyler Myers, I don't think a single other Canuck or Oiler has an embellishment penalty this year. This crap is nothing more than Rick Tocchet Gamesmanship and trying to put refs on the spot so they DONT call Penalties against the Canucks.

    Carolina did not outplay Rangers in G1

    • @ultimate8550
      @ultimate8550 Před 21 dnem +1

      If you are talking about 5 on 5 play, they absolutely did outplay the Rangers and usually do. Where the Rangers always cause trouble for us is special teams, which is obviously more important during playoffs. But yes, if the Canes solve their power play and also stop taking so many penalties, the series goes the other way.

    • @neme5i577
      @neme5i577 Před 21 dnem +2

      Agreed. Rangers held Carolina to what, 15 shots on goal in the first 50 minutes? Only in the final few minutes were they able to get shots on net, especially with the 6-5 advantage. And Carolina has averaged only 1 shot per powerplay (10 total) over these first 2 games. Rangers PK is in fact outplaying the Canes PP.

      @@neme5i577 Shots were 25-20 Hurricanes after the first two periods and 17-9 Hurricanes in the third period, no way the Rangers held them to only 15 shots after 50 minutes. I did notice that the ESPN broadcast never seems to show the shot totals on screen like the Canadian coverage does so that might be where you got confused.

    Shouldnt matter whos had how many penalties but we know it does-they manage the game & try to somewhat even out the PPs. Dallas had 4 PPs-including 5 on 3 for almost 100 seconds...Avs had 2. Id prefer they called neither on that-but I dont wanna hear any whinning bout embellishment-they got the overall officiating break on the night.
    And no Av fan was surprised Wood beat Heskinen-but that he actually finished. Wood is not a good finisher but arguably our fastest skater. But especially vs a visably fatigued Heskinen whos being expected to do everything. Play half the game,produce offensively,& keep in check our superstars. Much of it cuz he only got 1 day off,& Dallas is foolishly playing only 5 dmen vs the fastest team in the NHL. They had better get Hockinpaugh back(sp?) or find a #6 to trust more than 3 or 4 minutes a game.
    Especially when this series goes to Ball arena,& the Avs get the altitude edge,& last change. And Druin could be back around then,which makes us even faster in the top 6. This series is far from over,& I expect Dallas to win game 2 probably. But you better win game 2 Stars-I cant wait to work games 3,& 4 at Ball,& if we go up 2-0-it wont be over but itll be extremely difficult for Dallas to pull off another 0-2. Especially after a 7 game war with Vegas,& if they insist on only icing 5 dmen. Youll have to wheel out Heskinen in a wheel chair on an oxygen tank by game 4 if they think thats gonna work in Denver vs this Avs team.
