As someone who has personally been through this type of situation, and who had to stand up and bravely tell the truth in the face of an ENTIRE church and even denomination of people, at one point, who believed that my abuser could do no wrong and painted me as a villain, PLEASE listen when I implore you to be impartial about this matter. I know what its like to have no one believe you when you tell the truth, and frankly, it's horrifying. They even claim you have the devil inside of you and other garbage. This actually caused me to become an atheist for many years. Please DO NOT drive people away from God like this. And please be fair about the situation, and neither treat Mike as if he is guilty until proven innocent, nor should you treat the potential victims as if they are the guilty liars being put on trial. Yes, unfortunately, it's possible that the people accusing Mike are lying, but it's also possible they are telling the truth. When you decide to take sides instead of remaining impartial you damage relationships and tear apart the church. I love IHOPKC and I hate to see that this is happening to you guys. But PLEASE do not give in to the temptation to react to what is going on in a sinful or hate filled way. Rather, remain filled with compassion towards those involved and pray for all parties, and pray that justice would be served. God knows the truth. May the truth set you all free. 🙏

I deleted my previous comment because of yours. It's difficult because it is hard to take the accusers seriously when they've rejected three attempts by 3rd parties to participate in the investigation. Then again, it may not be the accusers. It may just be this attorney who somehow does not understand that serving as a personal attorney for one of the accusers disqualifies him from serving as a 3rd party investigator.
This is all magnified of course because in our world, merely the accusation of unsubstantiated sexual misconduct can do real and lasting damage to a person, an organization, and their reputations. This makes it all the more critically important that these matters be handled with the utmost professionalism, compassion, and expediency. This attorney who has brought these allegations and yet has refused to cooperate with the investigation may find his own actions under scrutiny. The longer he drags this out, his credibility and that of the accusers become more and more diminished.

Why didn't IHOP just get a third party, that specialises in clergy abuse to investigate over a month ago? One that the victims feel comfortable talking to, why is this already about the court of law? "He said, she said" are almost impossible to prove in the court of law which is why victims do not come forward. The likelihood of victims feeling safe talking to lawyers paid for by the corporation that is not believing their testimony is not really that surprising.

So few responses that are neutral. If we're looking for truth, shouldn't we abstain from "certain" statements that are actually baseless. That includes the "Mike is a man of God and innocent" side as well as the "alleged victims are definitely right and IHOP leaders are all wrong". The truth is likely more complicated, more nuanced. Let's wait and see.
Here's what I'm seeing. IHOPKC is saying they want to play ball but under their rules/terms with referees that's hired and paid for by IHOP. But IHOP insists it will all be honest. Gee I wonder why the other team doesn't want to play?

Perhaps the fact that IHOP is using attorneys to investigate is alarming to the advocacy group. It doesn't feel transparent. A lawyer has a responsibility to their client, not to a victim. A lawyer is in fact bound by the law to represent their client's best interests and no one else.

Not necessarily...depends on their instructions and this is an investigation not a lawsuit or trial. Lawyers have ethics, standards to follow.
The same would be true for a "3rd party" who typically are full of lawyers. This is why I've been saying that all parties ought to hire their own lawyers and/or third party investigators.
It's my understanding that IHOPKC hired a 3rd party as an investigator for all charges and people involved.
That goes the same for the Jane Doe, the founder of the group Grace is her attorney.
How is that not a conflict of interest that shows no signs of being unbiased and impartial -yet, the same people DEMAND that IHOP leaders use Grace. That seems very one-sided and fishy and certainly not pursuing truth.
I continue to pray for truth. God knows and sees. And He knows every manipulation, plot and coverup from every person involved. I am glad nothing is hidden from Him and I DO pray for mercy and purity in the Bride.

If they were really interested in the truth, then they would just hire a non-partial private investigator. An attorney is legally obligated to protect their client and advise them what to say and not to say. The round table of leaders that intervened during the Todd Bentley allegations, hired a private investigator. Todd Bentley's attorney advised him not to say anything. When the P.I.'s findings came back, the leaders in the body tried to ask Bentley to respond to the findings, and he refused based on legal counsel. The findings were so disturbing that the roundtable of leaders advised the rest of the body that Todd Bentley should not be in ministry.
What about Mike, and his wife and family? Who’s looking out for them?

A career sexual assault DEFENSE LAWYER (as she herself advertises in her bio) is NOT an independent “third party.” Stop the gaslighting! You mentioned ethics. Ms. McNamara’s professional code of ethics REQUIRES her to protect her client, IHOP-KC, NOT the victims. Crucially, IHOP-KC also has attorney-client privilege with her and the victims do not. The victim group provided you with another true third-party option, Guidepost, and you have refused it. Why are you hellbent on hiring aggressive defense lawyers to pose as “investigators?” Do you think we’re idiots? Other things that normal, healthy organizations don’t do: hiding the identities of your board members, hiding the identity of your lawyers, providing no means for other victims to come forward to anyone outside of the organization itself until someone leaks your lawyer’s identity. The secular corporate world has far higher standards than this and this sort of behavior would instantly have you packing up your office.

You know by hiring a lawyer the findings will be revealed to ELT and/or board only, then only what is chosen to be made known publicly would be. Hire a true third party that all sides agree to. You get the agreement of the advocate group before you choose an investigative group. You don't just choose one that you're happy with. I think a list was developed at the outset of who would be acceptable.
Yes, that makes so much sense. If you are looking for a neutral 3rd party to investigate a conflict or situation where there is disagreement between two parties, it just makes good common sense for both parties to agree on the 3rd party before one of them hires them and says "Here is the 3rd party."

I would agree, however, no matter what happens there is a MAJOR STAIN now on MB and the ministry. So sad. What’s even sadder is that this is happening throughout the body of Christ and its leaders and no one ever hears about it.
He has a released a statement. But he justifies himself, minimizes his behavior, and uses self-pity.

I get all of this and support that facts must be established. But Mike Bickle knows what that he either did what was alleged or he didnt and he should come forward and provide a full, honest response to all allegations and admit where there is truth and accuracy. Hiding behind investigative enquiries is not what establishes his sin and need for repentance before God and restoration, if he did indeed commit any of these acts.
Of course he knows the truth but the rest of IHOP doesn't. They investigate to believe him.

Those advocating that IHOP allow the advocate group to choose the investigator of IHOP are either naive or malicious. Mike was accused of sexual assault, on what planet should someone or an organization accused of a crime allow the other party to choose who investigates and represents them. Allow the process to work, if real evidence existed the advocate group would have contacted the police. No one commenting would agree to what they are demanding IHOP and MB to agree to. Americans are allowed to have due process and are allowed to choose skilled and smart people to help them. I believe Mike and I also think sometimes people who make accusations are not completely honest or exaggerate. MB is right to step back, this crowd would examine and reexamine every word and twist the meaning. They would have body language experts reviewing footage. This crowd desires to devour tidbits of inflammatory information. This is why no one of quality runs for office, they and their families are subject to armchair investigators who are not stake holders but desire an audience.

i couldn't find your slander police comment so i'll reply here. there are many reasons survivors don't report to police: wasn't illegal, past statute of limitations, fear of police, fear of not being believed, fear of someone finding out, stockholm syndrome, trauma binding AND maybe she already did? BUT this must be handled in the church too esp if it wasn't illegal

I am familiar with the emotions and also police intervention and police failings. America is seeking reality tv everywhere and not everyone signs up. If it is important enough to tell the world now and it was illegal she should involve police. How is any other party more appropriate, more third party, more objective? If the stories are accurate let the chips fall. If not, it is a slander case. I am still not confident these women wanted the spotlight and as someone who at one time was victimized they should be allowed to decide how far they want to take this. But, by taking it to this point they need to finish it.

I think we should be patient and wait to see if in the coming days any representative of the advocate group shares the REASONS that they are not cooperating with the investigative firm chosen by IHOPKC. Maybe they have good reasons, maybe they don't. Also, it is not clear (I don't remember this being shared yet) why IHOPKC did not go with Guidepost Solutions, which the advocate group seems to favor. Going with Guidepost Solutions would likely have allowed the process to advance. And this has been recommended repeatedly to the IHOPKC leadership (not just by the advocate group, but by others) at least since the first week that the allegations became public. So, it seems to me that IHOPKC bears a large amount of responsibility for the delay so far and even for any continuing delay.
When you first made the announcement on Sunday that the name of the lead investigator would NOT be disclosed, I thought that was an error. It is NOT objective to NOT release the name of the lead investigator. That to me smelled fishy.

I am concerned about the spin in these communications. With a commitment to transparency and truth…why was the time line limited to “official notification” and not when the ELT first found out about the allegations? Also, why were people encouraged to read IHOPKC’s statement regarding initial findings without anything said regarding the advocacy groups response to this report?
Blaming the advocacy group for not agreeing with a law firm as the investigators should be no surprise. They were informed of this in the beginning, yet continue to offer up different law firms each time. Why not hire a third party investigator who has experience in these types of circumstances, with each party having legal representation? Guidepost is merely one such organization.
I had so hoped for something more transparent and honest…I am grieved as I have loved and supported IHOPKC for over 15 years.

You refer to the INDEPENDENT investigation. However, the problem is, in a truly unbiased sense, it is NOT independent. The lead investigator is "hooked and tied" to IHOPKC. Just saying the facts. She is being paid by them. For her to remain UNBIASED in this matter, and if MB is guilty, then it would be like punching her employer in the face. She will be reluctant to do that, unless she is truly a servant of the living God in the most trusted of senses. On the other hand, I suppose it is possible that she could remain unbiased. And that would be our hope. But the fact that you chose to hide her name from the beginning does NOT look good on you. You should NOT have done that. Already, in the comments below, we read, "A career sexual assault DEFENSE LAWYER (as she herself advertises in her bio) is NOT an independent “third party.”" Think about it. On a technicality, a very clever defense lawyer could get their client "off the hook" and the person could still be guilty. I would like to see this woman's track record of ethics. Does she call people to repentance? Is she a whistleblower? Has she confronted injustice APART from any financial remuneration? These things would speak volumes in terms of giving your audience CONFIDENCE that you actually chose the right person.

How to address and fix the problems at IHOPKC. Apply the principles of a contaminated house to the contamination of the House of Prayer going back to Bob Jones. Leviticus 14:33-57. The contamination has spread and goes far back in time. Michael Brown should have grasped this principle in the OT being a Jewish believer. He is too close to focus.

To be suddenly blaming the advocate group for a decision which may be motivated by a genuine sense of being led from God is just not wise. Mike did this all time, saying things he thought was from God and saying "this is the direction we are going in." And everyone thought it was just fine! But now you have a problem with it. Even lawyers can be corrupt which is probably why the victims don't won't to work with them.
The victims CAN'T cooperate because IHOPKC forced the Victims to all have to hire their own attorneys and probably began a civil case. You can't assess a victim's testimony or evaluate a victim's evidence if they are advised not to participate because of active civil or criminal cases per their attorneys. Plus, what abuse victim is going to think a "fixer" aka "crisis manager" is a safe person to share with? Eric already said on his website that he only works for people who are innocent - so him agreeing to work with IHOPKC was him already saying he believes Mike is innocent.
Eric isn’t the third party investigator. Be slower to speak and listen to the facts. God is using this situation to judge all of us.

You seem to be saying that this is a lawyer representing IHOP (like this lawfirm has been hired by IHOP to defend IHOP). To me, IHOP's statement seems to be saying this lawfirm has been hired to investigate the matter (not to defend IHOP). I am genuinely wondering. Are you assuming the lawfirm has been hired to defend IHOP? Or is that actually what IHOP's statement means (as in, when they say they have been hired to investigate the matter, the true meaning is that they're actually more so hired to defend and protect IHOP).

Please don't hire law firms. Instead try a group like Guideposts.
Using only law firms appears to the public to be a defensive measure.
The firm they hired has a strong emphasis on DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion). They are also strong supporters of the LGBTQ+ community. It would be nice if they hired someone with a Christian worldview or at least with a biblical moral viewpoint rather than one that is aligned with the world.
Additionally, hiring a law firm means all results of the investigation would go to the attorneys who would then give it to IHOPKC. They would become the holder of the results due to attorney client privilege and IHOPKC can selectively release the information they want out there. Right now they do not have a great track record with being forthcoming. Understand why the advocate group is hesitant.
Telling a bunch of foxes that a sheep is not guilty isn’t the great news they want to hear .. tearing the sheep apart with justification of having a caring heart for the other party is very strange to hear. #highlymoralpeople

If there are allegations of sexual assault or abuse go to the police n let the matter be investigated. Not sure if this has been done. All this process by ihopkc just seems overly extra. Report the crime and let the police deal with it

Where is Mike? Why is he not speaking? Will he ever speak?
He said he won’t defend himself and leave it up to God. But it seems Mike keeps hiring more people to defend him. Help us to understand.
There are now hundreds and hundreds (if not thousands) of God honoring, spirit filled, Bible believing believers who now are saying the same thing, Mike is up to something fishy. Are they all insane?
I don’t think so. If the ELT would drop their defensive posture people would not have to keep opposing their methods.

If accusers don't want to answer the IHOP team's questions then that's on them and doesn't give IHOP much reason to put any weight behind their versions of events.

Thank you for this update. I've said it from the beginning, this is a sham and Mike needs to step back into ministry. These people will try to drag it on as long as they can to try and drag IHOPS name through the mud. I've been a Christian for over 30 years and I have never seen a more blatant attack from the enemy on a ministry.
If the advocacy group did leak the information of the law firm hired, that is a bad sign. No matter what happens there should be a level of confidentiality. But can't the advocacy group go to the authorities? Is that illegal? Because there is no way an organization would let you come with your investigators to investigate it's documents. No way. The organization is not about one man. They have rights as well. I feel that the best way is to go to the authorities or go to court so that the government will do the investigation. But if anything makes it impossible to take it to the authorities, they have no option than to negotiate the way forward with the organization.

I read it took place in 96-99 this was 20 plus years ago. Can we just forgive and forget. As people made in the image of God he throws sin into the sea of forgetfulness or and as far as east is from west. Everyone has a past. You are speaking from speculation, and from an emotional biased point of view. How do you know these things? Know one does.
An alleged victim(s) shouldn't use a 3rd party to confront the accuser. If we talking about the 26+ year situation, then perhaps the husband should approach Mike. Ideally both the alleged victim and the husband should have approached Mike. But we are where we are at. So, it is best to pray for all and for the facts and truth to be revealed.
Be patient and wait on the Lord...HE will work it out according to His will IF we all pray without partiality...too soon to pick sides.

I think you underestimate the power of abuse. If the victims were truly abused, then there is a lot of mistrust. At the time of coming out to confront an abuser, they may not be quick to want to trust any investigator that was hired by IHOP.
I sure wish everyone in comments would care about the rapes and tortures going on each day in the Nigerian church and publicly call attention to their suffering. Radical Muslims are doing horrible things to them.

Perhaps you should allow the advocate group to select the third party investigative group rather than allowing the accused group to select them.
Respectfully, it is kind of weird to think that anyone who is not paying the bill to be able to demand who is hired. It is also strange that three different investigative parties have been rejected by the Advocate group already. I appreciate their passion for bringing justice for the victim(s) but at some point they have to play ball to make that happen.
Perhaps you've never been the victim.
They have that right and should hire their own 3rd party that is void of conflict of interest such as Grace.
They appear to be stalling and balking at every turn.
If I were IHOPKC, I would have never listened to the criticism because there will always be those who will never be satisfied. The first 3rd party hired were professionals, well respected, and experts in such matters. These organizations has a bound legal duty to operate by certain standards and ethic. Just like a Realtor, for example.
Wisdom says all parties should hire their own lawyers and/or 3rd party investors. All the fact finding can be evaluated and compared by all. Perhaps a Council of Elders could be established to review all findings by the 3rd party investigators and make a judgement.
Bottom line should be to determine the real facts and the truth in context. Righteous justice and God's will ought to prevail.

@@susanphillips3066maybe because its lawfirms with a reputation for hedging the interest of their client? There are christian third parties specialised, Michael Brown advised Guideposts. There is no sensical reason to force the victims to go to lawyers when the results are not guaranteed to be publicised and can easily be used to case-build against them. This is not an isolated instance where that would’ve happened but surprisingly common. I recommend reading A Church called Tov by Scot McKnight.

You didn't explain why the advocate group said no to the third parties. You also didn't mention that IHOPKC rejected at least 2 third party investigators that were suggested by the advocate group. It was Grace and another. You are not an honest upright person in my opinion. You're reading off of a page of IHOPKC propaganda. So sad. You must be getting paid handsomely.
