I couldn't eat box curry because it would give me stomachaches. Your recipe doesn't and it tastes just as good, even better! It's also cheaper! Everyone loves this curry in my family. Thank you so much!
Happy to be your help!
Maybe box curry got some alergen that youre alergic to it 🤔
Get your prostate checked and eat fiber
Get some physillium husk into you x
You should make it yourself and add some turmeric
Thank you. Here on Brazil a box curry is very expensive, with this recipe is possible to make about five or more times the amount of one box by the same price. Love it.
And you can have much more flavor in it!
Thank you again. We love your instructional videos! So helpful.
I grew up eating Japanese box curry. Never new that you could make this and store it up to one year. Wow! Will definitely try this. Thanks.
This is super interesting! I love it 😸♥️, tysm for this video!!
I've been hoping you would make this recipe into a video for a while! Thank you so much for all the delicious meals you've taught us. Every recipe I try from you tastes great, even if I make mistakes the first time as I learn.
Thank you for the compliment! Keep it up!
I just followed the steps from your video, and everything went well, the curry itself tastes soooo good!!! Thank you so much for sharing
This completely changes the game! Thank you!
Ahhh, Japanese curry is the best! I need to try your recipe. Thank you
Any recipe starting with 7oz Lard has to be a winner! Awesome.
Hi, thanks for sharing the recipe. I just made it, and it worked and was delicious
Thanks for sharing this recipe.
Found out about Japanese curry yesterday. I made cubes the same evening.
Just had it for diner, delicious.
I didn't know you could do this, how awesome!!!
I am so happy you posted this. With the pandemic, it has been hard to find box curry. However, a fully stocked pantry makes this an easy to make and store recipe.
You are right. Now we have to make anything from scratch!
This is awesome!!
Thank you so much! I'm allergic to so many things that i can't use the boxed stuff. Also, i'm handicapped and usually don't have the strength to make curry from scratch, but with this recipe i can make it on a good day and then have instant curry when im too weak to cook! You are awesome! Sending lots of love from Cherry Log, Georgia ❤️🙏🕊
Nice one, definitely i will make this!
Thank you for this recipe! I missed curry since the epidemic. Plus this recipe tastes like its made by my mom. Thank you! 🙇♂️
oh wow ♡♡♡♡ no need to buy from the store anymore!!! thank you so much
Awesome! Thank you!
Thanks! this video was easy to understand, I'll try making Japanese Curry Roux this week! ^_^
Thanks for the garlic tip 👍
How did you know I've been wanting to learn how to make this? 💗💗💗💗 Thank you!!
SAME
Is that you requested the recipe? I hope it is helpful!
Arigato old mate.
Yes me to
@@kitchenprincessbamboo what brand of curry roux you use
Tip: Grate some fuji apple and add it into the flour and spice mix for a sweeter taste.
Question for KPB: Any suggestions on how to reuse the fried onion and garlic? Maybe dry them on kitchen paper and use as toppings for something?
Wait for the next video!
The tried and true English Army tecipe I know for Curry Sauce contains apple sauce.
@@kitchenprincessbamboo WHICH CURRY POWDER IS THAT
BeautyGyaan it’s in the description box, I believe it’s the S&G curry powder.
Apple juice makes it taste great!
NARUHODO! Very interesting, thank you!
AMAZING!! thank you
Thank you! I wanted to try this at home, but didnt know how long can i keep it in the fridge, but this is amazing i can make a bigger batch and have it for a longer period of time. Thank you for the great video.
You are welcome 😊
Thank you ❤
Yummy
Awesome.
Thanks a lot.
Greetings from Brazil.
Glad you liked it!
Interesting video. Fortunately for me I have easy access to pre-made Japanese curry paste at the local Korean grocery store. I get a lot of use out of it.
You should give it a try at least once in a lifetime! Lol.
This is just what I needed! Now if only o knew how to make it taste like Vermont Curry!
Vermont Curry has grated apple and cheese in it as well. You could try adding grated gruyere and applesauce to your curry while cooking.
I had no idea cheese in the Vermont curry.
I thought it was hard but it easy, now I can enjoy like my dear Japanese people
If you make roux you can make curry roux.
I used to make gallons of curry sauce when I worked at an English style place. IT STAINED EVERYTHING.
That is why I have mentioned about how to clean it up. I can't imagine how Indian people handle it.
@@kitchenprincessbamboo Yellow Kitchens?
@@kitchenprincessbamboo their kitchens are covered in ceramic tiles and they use dark colored clay pots and alumunium, or stainless steel tools to cook. Which is much easier to clean. Water and soap is enough
I’d love it if, when you make the curry in the next video, you could tell how to make it taste like the Vermont House brand curry, the one with the apple on it. I’m such a child, I love the sweet curries XD
Vermont curry mild is the very basic and we all love it!
Dear, try adding pineapple or honey to it, it's tricking amazing !
Very clear instructions thank u Ma'am
What are the ingredients goes in for curry powder
Thank you
I've always wondered what those curry blocks were made of!
Awesome! Looks gorgeous, but at the same time, I think I'll prefer to just fry the ginger / onion / garlic and then make the roux every time lol, just so that I can use the vegetables in the same recipe.
Though processing the ginger / onion / garlic probably yields a delicious, fragrant, maillardy and fatty paste.
Pls check the description.
Wooohoooooo!!! 😁
That looked to simple! 😍 I'm a bit embarrassed that I've not looked up a recipe for curry roux before when it turned out to be so easy. I imagined it to be complex but this was way to easy not to do at home! I'll have to do a vegetarian version without lard. I think coconut fat could work I guess?
Maybe, yes. It's a good vegan substitute! But I can't imagine how onion and coconut fat go together. What do you think?
@@kitchenprincessbamboo I think that coconut oil is wrong to use because it tastes of coconut, but coconut fat doesn't taste anything. We use it for mixing with chocolate and make a special "ice chocolate" for the Christmas season.
Woohoo!
How many servings from this recipe? The store bought S&B curry - 1 box has 8 blocks, a meal for four uses about 4 blocks.
Thanks for sharing! I think I might try to grease some ice trays and put the curry in it so I don’t have to cut them up. Looks simple enough to make.
I doubt you'll have to grease them with that amount of lard!
Carla Tate Well I think if I lightly spray the trays with some non stick oil, it’ll be easier to pop them out once they’re firm. Not sure how good the trays will release them even with all that fat content.
@@shellyxyang True!
I thing silicon mold works good. But you can't use it for another purpose, though. Lol.
It's even better to fill it in a ice cube tray and you got perfect cubes like storebourght.
I like homemade edible item's more, thanks for the such a helpful recipe mam 😊🌺🌺🌺
日本咖喱 絕味!!
Do you make your own curry powder mix? I am curious what powder mix is popular in Japan.
can I know what type of butter to use? can I use unsalted butter?
Thank u so much for this..I've always wanted to make Japanese curry seeing the enormous love for it in anime and manga!!Can u please tell me what the spices u use in your curry powder??Onegashimas!!
S&B brand is my go to!
the "SAN" is shining
Can we use any regular kind of curry powder for this?
I've been looking for the Japanese curry *spice blend* recipe to make it from scratch and no results as of yet! Any help would be greatly appreciated!
this video might help
I think the brand of Japanese curry powder most restaurants use is called s&b. You could copy their ingredients but they don’t seem to have anything bad, just spices so I don’t really see any point in making it yourself.
@@oliviatreip2613 where i live they dont sell curry blocks
So i looked for alternatives
And yes its called s&b
I cant use the regular mic because of an allergy to nutmeg and palm oil. I made this up and i am super excited to try it out
What happened to the caramelised onion, garlic and ginger??? What do we do with them??
Put them with mix?
Or use it later when we make curry rice?
Hi Akino, was that your usual portion of curry rice? It was very small. Do you eat soup and salad with it as well? :) Thanks for the recipe. I assume when you make the curry, you include grated apple and some cocoa powder or bit of chocolate. I am looking forward to the next video!
I will explain it in the future video!
did u add any water? Because i tried to make it and it becomes thick at once when i put flower on oil. but yours one look like liquid at first.
Can you buy lard in the triangle pouch ? I have only seen it in containers, I could probably just use a sandwich bag and snip the end actually.
I have a confession, I've never had curry before but this looks so good. I can't wait to try it for myself!
Any lard is OK!
What about those vegetables? Did you add them? Fine fine now I understood. Those vegetables are make flavor for the oil...!!!! Gonna try this week...!!!!
Ahh!!! Thankyou
Would be neat if the curry be filled into ice cube tray. It's easier, cleaner no need to cut and ready to store or used.
1:33 um what is that white thing? i dont have it. can i use regular oil???
What can I add to make it medium hot or hot?
Well, what then happens to the fried onion, ginger and garlic?? Also what were the ingredients in that powder??
So are we mixing the flour in that oil or Lard only ?
Is it important to put lard is it not going to make with out lard please tell
I can't remember how much you cun reduce the curry block on how much going in? Like some people are adding the whole thing to one recipe usage, and some people are using like half or even less than half. What's the most you can partition it without reducing it too much? Does someone have a reccomendation on this on how much you can stretch cutting the block?
wat did u do with the onion ginger and garlic?
Is there a way to do it without the ginger
Do we have to let it cool down in the fridge? Can I just use the curry roux righr away?
Anyone have a recipie for authentic japanese curry powder?
Wouldnt it be better to add the spices BEFORE the flour in order to fry them a bit to bring out the flavours rather than adding the four first?
We don't add Graham masala and chili powder? Anyways thank you so much for this recipe you help to save money and buy something else instead
BTW that's garlic germ :)
What about the mix of spices for the curry powder that goes into making the curry roux?
If you’re talking tumeric, cumin, etc. they’re usually already included in the curry powder.
Hello KPB. Your method is interesting. You only use the solids (onions, etc.) to flavour the oil. I cook the solids until just golden, but then blend & integrate them into the final product to keep that veggie fibre in there. What do you think 🤔 ??
Thank you for sharing your idea! Why don’t you give it a try? I want to know how it turns out!
@@kitchenprincessbamboo : I have obviously tried it & consider it a great option. Check it out!
What did you do with the onion, garlic and ginger??
Thank you for sharing! 🌸🌸🌸
Can almond flour be substituted for flour?
Thank you 🌸🌸🌸
I don’t think so. Because the flour is used as a thickener.
So what do you do with the fried onions, garlics, and gingers?
Watch my chicken curry video!
Thank you for sharing this. Would you please explain about why you would want more gluten in the flour to thicken your curry. I thought it was the starch that thickened things, not the protein. Thanks 😁
It makes different texture. I hope it make sense to you.
@@kitchenprincessbamboo oh, so it’s not about thickening, it’s a texture thing. That makes more sense, Thanks
What are the onions garglic and ginger used for then ??
its just for aroma i think
Can you also use normal curry because I cant find S&B Curry mix in germany or is it a some special mixture
I think so. Let me know how yours turned out!
Do you think it would work using rice flour for a gluten free option? Thanks
I don't know but you can give it a try!
@K A MEYER Did you try it and did it work?
What happens to the onions garlic and ginger?
I made it but how to make curry out of it??
What happend to garlic onion ginger that you cook on the butter
Is it just normal curry powder you are using? :) I’ve seen other people make roux cubes, and they used S&B Oriental Curry Powder, which is really expensive in my country. I have to buy it from an online speciality store that sells Japanese products.
Is the curry powder made of fried onion Ginger and garlic ?
Once oil is dried powder the FRIED INGREDIENTS
I am right
Thank you Ma'am
Hello mam, Thanks for the video but could you please share the name of the ingredients that you put please
Check description
Quick question, do you use any type of generic curry powder? The okkar coloured one? Thank you!
I don't understand what you mean. Can you send a link for the product?
@@kitchenprincessbamboo Heya, thanks for replying! I was just wondering if it was a special curry powder mix, or the general one you can buy in any supermarket, like the one described on Wikipedia here en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curry_powder
wsa18 I think you need to use the Japanese curry brand. I’ve tried making curry sauce with a regular curry powder from my local supermarket but it tasted nothing like a Japanese curry sauce.
I've never used lard. I'm willing to try it but I wonder if vegetable oil can be used as a substitute?
You need to use an oil that will harden when cools, else it'll difficult to form a block (unless you store in freezer). So lard, butter, coconut oil.. etc.
The fat of oil should be "solid" at room temperature, if you want it to be blocks.
Don’t you put any salt in curry roux? I remembered I bought curry block from supermarket that they have already with all flavors.
We use beef or chicken bouillon before adding curry roux. That’s where the saltines come from. Thanks for the good question!
What is this Mixed Curry Powder. Is it a mixture of spices of something else. From where we can buy it or can we make it at home .Pls reply

I may be missing something here, what is the point of this roux block?lf you fry onion, garlic and ginger and then add curry powder with the other ingredients you will still get japanese curry.😅Infact l add spring onion and leek to mine and it taste great..Cheers.
Wats the curry powder ?
U not use garlic, ginger and union to blend and mix in to your curry?
Pls see description
What is lot?
How many cubes should be used for every curry portion? How many cubes does this recipe yields?
Yields about 2 dozen. For the quantity, watch my curry rice video!
Thanks for watching!
