  • So what did I first think of the Bailey Phoenix 640 Caravan? This is the first day with the caravan. I move 7 minutes up the road to a Caravan and Motorhome Club Certificated Location Campsite which is on a farm. I share my experience with setting up for the first time and how I settle in. After a good nights sleep, I go through and share my first impressions of the Bailey Phoenix.

    A very warm welcome to the UK Travelling K, great to see you exploring our part of the World and the Caravanning stuff on this side of Planet Earth.
    Truly excellent both Peugeot and Bailey have provided the awesome outfit for the duration of your stay, lucky you Karen!
    And what a fabulous touch having Travelling K emblazoned on the Tow Cover - brilliant and everyone will be able to see you coming for sure.
    Enjoy your time over here and have fun meeting the awesome caravanning community we have here. All the best, Rog... 👍🏻 😉 😎

      per night,great value,we go to the ones with shower and toilet block EHU waste and water, Caravan and Motorhome club sites have a lot more facilities and can take a lot more caravans on site ,and cost a little more
      which you would expect ,keep the good work up .

    I looked at a small trailer before I got mine and the sink and fridge were in a slide.
    It made for a space behind the sink that was huge. Easily big enough for a crock pot AND a toaster oven. Being it was the corner of a slide, it had windows on two sides (fridge was in left corner)
    It even had this shelf/hook arrangement for plants!
    To bad it had a very small wet bath.

    Checking out certified (5 sites as they are often called) is a great idea. Some fantastic little locations. Have several near myself and a couple have amazing views. I appreciate not being your own van you are restricted as to how you can prep up but some good sturdy feet for corner steadies and a few sturdy pieces of thick timber are useful as many sites can be uneven. Milenco do some great wheel wedges to help even out your van. Kitting your van with a good solar panel system is incredibly useful, almost essential and a small, low noise suitcase generator is very handy. Getting off grid can be great fun. Enjoy.

    Hi, I have just found your channel. I am glad you got to Chatsworth as it’s one of our favourite sites with the great little door onto the estate. I had a thought about you packing the caravan as one thing we always do is have one saucepan that you can put in 3 stainless steel inserts , two with holes for veg and one solid for potatoes etc. You can then have the benefit of using the pan on it’s own or adding the little pots. You can buy the inserts online, but check the dimensions of your one saucepan to make sure all three go in. Saves quite a lot of space as they all snuggle together in your cupboard under the stove.
    Good luck with your travels, hope you can make it to Scotland?
    Good wishes from a fellow caravan

    @HelenBeeee Před 5 lety +1

    Im impressed with the layout but also the finishes the "low sheen" finishes and neutral colours make it for me. I ruled out a caravan as an option for myself because the latest caravans seem to use glossy finishes with colour schemes that cant be worked with. This makes them look cheap and flimsy. But this one has really nice finishes more like ones youd find in a house and it just makes it feel more robust. That window is a great design too love the living space and kitchen and bedroom. Two months wow that was nice of them cant wait to see the footage. :)

    Hi Karen,
    Hope your enjoying your UK visit, unfortunately because of work commitments etc we could't meet up with you, we would have loved too!!
    We both do things at weekends.
    Having said that we follow your channel all the time & are interested in any issues that you have etc, we also have been caravaning for many years.
    Hope it goes well & you enjoy yourself.
    Craig & Kristen

      Travelling K can’t blame ya! When I lived there most of my dinners were ready meals! 😂 But usually roasts or salads. Hell in a pinch even the local services had a £1.50 frozen roast ready meal. Never get a whole meal that cheap in Aus and definitely not at a bloody servo! 😜

    Hopefully you got the USB charging sorted. You need to leave the light switch in the control panel by the door switched on and then you can turn 9j and off the lights using their individual switches. Once you have done that the USB ports will be active. The other trick with the lights us there are two above the big front window and it seems that they can't be turned off!! There is a switch on the underside of the cupboard next to the radio
    I love my 640 and would live in it full time if I got a chance.

    Glad you’re liking the Bailey Karen. Couple of things, there’s no extractor as it’s an entry level van. Secondly and this may be just down to the edit order, but don’t connect the 230v mains hookup lead while the 12v system/lead is connected to the car. Finally the usb charger I’m sure you’ve probably fathomed it by now, but check all your system switches are on (main 12v switch, lights, pump etc eTc)

    Hi from Australia. I've just come across your channel and seriously love your content. You do a fabulous job of sharing the caravanning life as a solo woman - something I'm thinking about doing in the future. Can I ask why you chose a caravan over a motorhome/RV? I'm 53yo and have never towed even a trailer before but you have shown that it can be done and quite easily at that...especially on insanely narrow UK roads!! I look forward to checking out more of your videos.

    • @TravellingK
      @TravellingK  Před 5 lety

      Lovely to here! I picked a caravan because of the price difference. Anything with a motor jumped in price. And I liked the idea of being able to leave my home behind while I drive into a city. Hope that helps your decision?

  • @jamesshanks2614

    Ok make sure you open the gas bottle all the way until it stops turning. In addition to a close seal there is also an open seal to prevent gas from leaking by the valve shaft.
    So ts either open all the way until it stops when it hits the open seal and the closed seal.
    Sorry for being long winded but propane is heavier than air unlike natural gas which is lighter than air. Propane if it leaks out simply finds the lowest point waiting for an something to ignite it.
    Be safe please.
    Cheers!

    How are you finding towing a longer van? Looks really lovely. We had a German van for a while - it was really lovely, though not really suited to Australian conditions. It needed bitumen roads, but it was wonderful to travel in.

    • @TravellingK
      @TravellingK  Před 5 lety

      It's actually been fine towing a longer van. The differences has been swinging a little wider on sharp corners and it's taken a few goes reversing... getting there though. Were you wanting to go off-road with your van?

    • @MirandaJ223

    Hi Karen.
    Welcome in Europe !
    One point i like on UK caravan, it's the windows at living room and the oven.
    but what i doesn't like, the caravan seems to be narrow !
    How width does it ? 1,9 m or 2.1 m
    Here in France the standard is 2,3m ( like's mine caravan ) and there are 2.5m !
    What do you thiks about the (French car ) Peugeot ( you can tel PIGEOT) the motor are overboost with a turbo, it's good but to start at a red light or a stop, they don't have too much couple ( strong ) until it run at 2000 RPM, VW have 2L motor and i think it's more pleasant to drive when you are towing.
    It make lot's of difference with your 4x4 ?
    See you later and enjoy UK food !!
    Denis

      I have noticed that the car is a little slower to take off. But a joy to drive.

    I didn't realize how different travel trailers in the US are from those in the UK. Your fresh water capacity seems to be quite small if half a tank is only 20 liters. My trailer is smaller than this one and I have a 49 gallon (185.5 liter) fresh water tank.

    • @TravellingK
      @TravellingK  Před 5 lety

      Oh I’m keen to hear of the differences! Yes, this water tank is tiny. I have a 52L tank at home. But wish it was an internal tank too...

    • @AlaskaErik
      @AlaskaErik Před 5 lety

      @@TravellingK A big difference between the US and UK/NZ is the type of tow vehicle commonly used. Where I live, the most common type of tow vehicle is a pickup truck. They can tow a lot more than cars and crossovers can. Also, boondocking is quite popular, especially in the ester US, where there is a lot of federal land that is open for camping. Some manufacturers have western and eastern versions of their RVs, one difference being that boondocking is more popular in the west, so western versions tend to have larger fresh water tanks. In the eastern states, people are more likely to camp at an RV park that has water and electric hookups.
