- My bride and I spent two days enjoying the Hawken Classic event at the Daniel Boone Home near Defiance Missouri. This is the first of four annual events honoring the 200th anniversary of the Hawken Brother's Gun Shop located in St Louis Missouri - 1825.
Enjoy the fun:

Another great video for a great Sunday morning thanks alot
Thanks for riding along with us. I'm ready to go back again!
Great video and that music will bring tears to your eyes
Thanks for watching my friend….
Boy Mark ! I was in dreamland the whole time I watched this vid. What a nice time y’all had ! We’re so glad you and the miss.. can enjoy these travels together and share them with us.
Thanks Jerry...this one & last week's fish fry video was the highlights for a whole week in Missouri. We are enjoying the trips & probably coming your way soon.
Cheered me rite up!!!!!!!
Thanks..I'm planning on attending this year's event & put it on video too Thanks for watching.
Wow this event sire looks like a whole lot of fun. I also loved seeing the younger ones taking an interest in it as well. The sound of the airplane flying over in the beginning although not done on purpose was a nice touch. I keep saying I've gotta meet up with you one of these times for a fun day of shooting. Jesus loves you too Mark and may you and your family be blessed. Thanks as always for bringing us along with you.
I'll be glad to get together with you someday. You'll love shooting this type guns. They are addicting.
Awesome video. That Hawken is a nail driver.
Yes, it is. I'd say 90% of the shooters were hitting the target with it.
Thanks for taking us along, very nice!
Thanks for watching.....
Thanks Mark and God bless you and your family
Likewise my friend. Thanks for watching....and...may God Bless you & your family.
I'm never disappointed with your vids amigo, I always leave happier than when I got there.
WOW....that's VERY nice of you saying that! I have more wacky ones coming soon & going out to film another one tomorrow.
Wish I could have been there, if only I lived closer! Looks like great fun.
That fella just needs to be careful sweeping that hunting iron over those kids!
Yup I was thinking the same thing ! But in fairness remember the camera has a way of distorting a perception of the image. Let’s give him the benefit of the doubt and remember to be careful ourselves. 👍
Good point !
Thank you for the trip always love them.
Thanks for riding along with us.
What an incredible property. Amazing history. Beautiful guns. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching.....
It looks completely enjoyable and fun. I noticed one of those boys was shooting a lefthanded DGW Tennessee Mountain Rifle as well!
He was very accurate using that LH gun too.
Great video Mark...looks like a lot of great people and great fun...I loved the part of the lady throwing the axe..🤣..she managed a 1 in a million throw for ya..and that hawken was beautiful
That was classic throw! It was a VERY fun weekend.
Mark,
It was good to meet you at the Hawken Classic.
Yes, thrree were a lot of shooting and there. We loved every minute of the weekend. Thanks for watching....
One of yer best yet Mark...thank you so much for bringing it...atvb...woods

Mark, as always, thanks for sharing! 🤩
Thanks...I went the PO Box today for the 1st time in 2-3 weeks and picked up mail. Mrs BPMS & I have been in Missouri for 2 weeks filming BP fun for the channel. I'll be getting back in touch with you soon.
What a wonderful video thanks
Thanks…I’m looking forward to attending this event again in a few weeks. I’m taking the cameras with me again….
That is some beautiful country, an awesome event, great folks, nice rifles, and good food, this is an awesome video, really enjoyed this one. Really nice to see the younger generation there as well to keep the history alive. Many thanks Mark, for sharing these videos, God Bless and have a Great Day.
Thanks for watching..I'm going to try getting more of these type videos together to post this summer.
Amazing job covering the event! Special thanks to you and your wife coming this way to survey and document everything. Beautiful music and fantastic editing. Was a pleasure and honor meeting you and your wife. Fun times and can’t wait to help out again next year! We are blessed to have this incredible site in the area. Despite the weather we all had a magnificent adventure.
May God shower blessings on you and your wife.
- the lady who threw the one in a million hawk throw.
Thanks for those kind words. We will probably go back again next year......and....yes, that was awesome hawk throw! LOL
What a wonderful event! You even got to shoot an ORIGINAL Hawken! I do enjoy seeing the crafts that people produce with their own two hands; the tinware, the clothes, the wrought iron. Fantastic. Thank you for the video!
Thanks for watching....
Good video Mark. I love Hawken's. Always been my favorite rifle.
I'd LOVE to give one of those away...if I could find one!
Some great looking Hawken rifles there Mark , Hey Good shooting to .Cheers
Thanks mate.....I'm going to try posting more of these type videos this summer...
That Hawken hit hard.
It did...they were loading it with only 30 grains of 2F powder and a.490 round ball. Thanks for watching.
Great video Mark I loved it from the start. I love Hawken rifles and they have always been my favorite guns to shoot and enjoy. Even if they are cap locks. Looks like you and Mrs BPMS had a great time. I see she hasnt let up on you at all about your shooting.
She REALLY enjoy hassling me about my shooting. We both enjoyed every minute of that weekend.
Very, very, enjoyable trip to see some wonderful folks and see some Hawken rifles, I really love the concept of the Hawken rifle. Back in the 1980’s I built a full stock, flint, 58 cal, my second assembly of a muzzloader, the First was a Lyman Great Plains rifle in 54 cal, I shot the gun so much, I wore the barrel out, and had to replace it! The full stock Hawken turned out well, I’ve shot the heck out of that as well, Blackpowder has been pumping through my veins since I was 11 years old!
Danial Boone in his lifetime seen the country from Pennsylvania to the Rocky Mountains! In history he is way under represented!
I have a Lyman GPR & I'm on the way of wearing out the barrel on it too! I love shooting that racal. Thanks for going along with us on this one...
Great video keep up the great work love them smokepoles. I'd love to have a original Hawken. God bless and enjoy your Sunday
Those original Hawken guns are very expensive. It was fun having the opportunity to shoot an original one. That was priceless.
What a beautiful place. Just seeing that is great. The shooting and all those great people just made it better. The music you added woke my wife up. She recognized it being she is from TN and raised in church. I came under the Charismatic Movement and just thought it was old music.
I thought that was an appropriate song to use. Yes, I grew up singing those old songs in church too.
I would have loved to have been there to shoot a piece of history. Thanks for sharing Mark.
Thanks for watching...it was a very neat weekend.
Excellent video. Thanks for sharing that road trip with us.
Thanks my friend....I assume you are feeling better?
@@blackpowdermaniacshooter Just taking a bit to get my strength back.
Nice Hawkenrifles and nice Camp....i watch your Videos from Germany
Germany?? WOW, thanks for watching ...
I sure am sentimental watching this with church music! I am back on my feet after blood clots in leg and lungs! So nice to see spring beauty with appreciation of life. No more 100.00 month cheese, yogurt, butter. I lost some weight, but I can do chores. Love the black powder fun! Thank you good buddy!!!!!!!
THANK you for watching....glad to read you're on the mend!
Wish I had know about the hawken shoot! Looks like tons of fun! I will have to go next time!
We had a total blast. Planning on attending next year again!
What a great adventure and Thanks for sharing it! That Hawkens sure looked sweet to shoot and what a good shot you made! I have a 50 cal. Repro I Love shooting. I got it in a trade and redid everything. It is a Conn. Valley Arms rifle that wasn’t done so well but to my liking now. I also have an 1829 N. Starr 69cal. Army issue that was flint lock and later converted to cap and ball by the Army. There is something very special about shooting an original gun or rifle that I know you understand. It’s why we Love Black Powder and the History they came from! Many Blessings and Kind Thanks! I’ll have to make it there one day, on my bucket list! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania
We are planning on attending this event again in August 2023. They have such a cool collection of Hawken Rifles on hand. It rivals any museum in the country. I can't wait! Thanks for watching....
That was awesome.. i loved the two pistols, especially that little itty bitty screw barrel pistol. That was cool!
Thanks for sharing with us Mark
Thanks for watching....
@@blackpowdermaniacshooter my pleasure bud
I have to go check this out.
I haven't been to Frankfort KY for years but in the capitol building museum I think there's a Daniel
Boone rifle. I haven't been there since I was 14 or so.
Really enjoyed this video!
I need to get down there myself if they have an original rifle! Thanks for sharing that bit of info.
Mark, I really enjoy these videos wish I was closer to them so I could go and watch/shoot.
That's the toughest part off the hobby. It seems the fun stuff is so far away. Yes, it takes about 7+ hours drive for use to get Missouri.
Great event and Thank you BPMS for sharing ....my club did a similar event at Gabriel's tavern in NJ..Unfortunately I could not attend as I just had Open Heart surgery ...recovering and look forward in 2 months to shooting again.
keep ur powder dry
2 months?? That will go by very quickly! I'm sure you can't wait to start shooting again.
Mr. BPMS another wonderful video! I would have loved to be there and had a little of that fun myself. 14lbs is no light weight for that rifle! I'm glad you put that big shaggy straight with it! Maybe next time the rain will stay away and the tradesmen who work so hard the rest of the year will be able to sell their wares.
I'm hoping so too.....we are planning on attending next year. Of course the cameras are going with me! I'm looking forward to it.
Mark is great to meet and talk about our black powder hobby and reenacting. Trappers of Starved Rock were seen a lot on his film.
I love talking about this hobby to anyone that will listen! LOL I'm pretty sure we will go back again next year.
Hey Mark I got a new main spring from the Log cabin shop you gave me to try ! Well it came today I changed main spring now it’s shooting like brand new !! God Bless Mark ty
Outstanding….!! I love it!
Mark, thanks for recording this video! One suggestion is we wanted to let you know that when you went to the Sappington house you said there was $250,000 worth of guns there, the reality was it was over $950,000 worth of guns in that collection. You might want to update that fact. It was an awesome thing to see. Thanks again for recording it!
WOW...that's an awesome collection! I can't remember who told me the figure. Regardless..I'll pin this comment for all to read. Thats for the update.
Inflation sure jumped! Just like a frog target. Whammmmm!
Got to go to canal fulton muzzleloader club today. 50 yd bench. They were 10s hole n hole. I got 2 8s maybe, rest in white. Got to join today though! And had my first grandchild s Birthday she is one. Had a beautiful party. Awsome turn out.
Congratulations ! my friend......and....good shooting too!
Mark awesome video as always, do you happen to know it is next year I live in MO and didn't know they had and I'd love to see it.
It will be held on August 25-26 , 2023. Here is a FB link with the details. We will be there again in 2023: facebook.com/groups/1052999632052439/permalink/1053000662052336
Wonderful video...why leave the country for a vacation when there are so many wonderful things to see and experience in our own country.
100% agree. I have NO desire to leave America. There are too many places & events like this one for us to visit!
Two weeks ago today at this time I was leaving my motel room to head back to the Ozarks. I had a good 2 weekends between Caney Mtn and the Hawken Classic. If gas prices ever go back down we just might have to go back to Kentucky again
If yo come over here, I'll take you out to burn some powder *Can-tuk-ee" style!
@@blackpowdermaniacshooter well that sounds good! I also like visiting historical places which Kentucky is blessed with
Mark, I just put on factory buck horn sites, fixed the problem they had when I got the gun. Lift screw, stretch the spring, then put a rubber band around stem, put back together, tighten little. Cut the rubber band. This stops 1/8 side to side move8. Then I scrubbed entire barrel to new specks. Gonna weigh 10 charges powder by volume,, then weight, bullets ,18th patches. Start over. I'm speechless on hitting a target
WOW....that sounds like a GREAT plan to get that gun back in tip-top shape!
Just weight d 12 total 65 grain charges, 20 total .172 grain balls. All I know now is start at 25 yards work my way back... that's what everyone says.
Love the channel Partner....I watched your video on "running ball"....got Lee moulds coming soon gonna give it a try....could you do a video on how to prepare a new mould for first time cast?
I could do one...but. it is pretty simple to get one ready. I simply wash it down with rubbing alcohol & dry it off. Then...put 'er to use.
@@blackpowdermaniacshooter So you don't smoke the inside where the lead pours into or lube the sprue bolt.. watched several videos on it and I've got several different methods on it....just thought I'd get your opinion....Thanks
@@TheGhostrider1959 Oh yes...I definitely do that afterwards. Here is what I do to pour round balls to shoot: czcams.com/video/T3DzJNfWmqE/video.html
@@blackpowdermaniacshooter My understanding is that you actually smoke the cavities for the first 75 castings to build up a carbon layer on the molds....also Lee says before the first use you need to use beeswax or another lube & very lightly lube the sprue nut & that big nut you use to tap the balls out or knock the sprue off & lightly lube the pins....basically your doing what Lee recommends....myself I am getting a .490 for my flintlock Hawkens & a .595 for my Tulle smoothbore & doing it the old fashion way with a ladle over a fire....Thanks for your time....greatly enjoy your channel....
@@TheGhostrider1959 Thanks for watching & keep on pouring that lead and burning that powder my friend.
Unashamed christian !!huzzah!!!!!!😁
Oh yeah! Thanks for watching....
GREAT video ( SOMEONE is jealous , and I think I know Who it is ) !
Thanks for watching....that one was fun attending....
I just got a Hawken 54 cal. What size cap should I get for it?
Most all percussion guns takes the # 11 percussion caps. Have fun & welcome to a very addicting hobby!
The date of the video is May 15th.... Is the Hawken Classic Event on the same date every year, and when would that be?
It was on April 29 - May 1st this year. I'll be attending the one next year too. I'm assuming it will on the same weekend neat year but I'm really not sure about that. Here is the FB page to verify when next year's event will be posted: facebook.com/hawkenclassic
I think I got a weak spring on my Spanish made Hawken
They are easy to replace. Deer Creek in Indiana will probably have parts.
To me shooting an original Hawken rifle would be better than riding on the biggest roller coaster.
Amen brother...110% agree! We are going back again to the Classic inAugust 2023. Yep, I'll be trying that rascal again!
Mark I'm looking forward to the day I can finally put away these old 9mmm high capacities and maybe use my old 36 Navy and carry one of my fifties meeting friends like you do color me jealous you and your wife have a wonderful week Joe security
Thank you....be VERY careful, once you start shooting black powder guns, you'll start leaving your modern guns at home. These are addicting!
@@blackpowdermaniacshooter i get to go out and shoot black on days off. but the others are tools.
I'm like n them guns
They were some VERY neat guns to see there.
Oh yes
Big .Mark, How are you doing? Any thing good there?
Life has been getting in the way of shooting this week. I haven't pulled the trigger at all the past 6-7 days. Arrrgh!
This time of year, getting caught up ??
@@roberttolley5055 Yes....all this work being behind will end this weekend. I'm hoping to film another video Sunday afternoon.
i have to find out the name of that song
I add all song titles to the description of every video. Three of CZcams's songs were used in this one. Their music is copyright free in CZcams's audio library. Thanks for watching.
oooooooooooooooooooo H i love these vids but turn down that LOUD pretty music love these meets in all states
Thanks for watching my friend.....
Great video.
Jesus loves us. This I know, the Bible tells me so. 😇😇😇😇😇
Yep...100% agree! Thanks for watching....
2 Tim 2:15 KJV "not the watered-down version" (Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth) and he should know the verse that is on his own rifle! and not scold the kids for not knowing it!
Its a good scripture. First time I've seen that one on a rifle.
So many versions, one God Spirit! Sallrite gents!
@@lorenray9479 yes there is several versions. the problem is the "new and improved" leaves out over 200 verses! most of these deal with salvation. i want my moneys worth,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
