  • Vacuum pump in a car helps to create vacuum for the functioning of brake booster and other vacuum actuated solenoids. As time goes, the seal that separates the housing leaks oil and when severe, leaks vacuum too.

    • @dailyhandsdiy
      @dailyhandsdiy  Před 2 lety +3

      In figo 1.4 or 1.2 or even 1.6 engines this pump is just for brake booster activation. So if that seal is really bad, there will be severe oil leak in that side plus, brake becomes harder.

    I took apart the vacuum pump to remove a broken bolt and after putting it back together it leaks around the case seal. I think I wiped the seal before putting it back together.
    What kind of silicone or grease can I put on the seal so it won't leak?

    • @dailyhandsdiy
      @dailyhandsdiy  Před 9 měsíci

      You need to clean the seal properly and use a thin layer of rtv silicon sealant. Wait for 6 hrs atleast so it cures nice and good.

      Its from truck spares store. They have variety of o rings. You may not get the exact same size or diameter. Just pick almost similar in size. Also dont pick lesser thickness than oem, pick same or a bit thicker one.

    • @dailyhandsdiy

      That shouldn't be related to vacuum pump. If the vacuum pump has a severe leak, you brake pedal becomes stiff and hard to press. If its a vacuum actuated egr could cause malfuntions but not sure abt the cruise control.

    Thanks for this video dear brother.. I commented over your another video regarding my 1.5 TDI Rapid's vacuum solenoid switch. As per your suggestion, all the vacuum lines were checked , no issues peripherally. Turbo waste gate also working , don't know 100%, but it's working . Today I found that the same vacuum generator is getting hot with 10 mins of idling. The engine temperature was only at 60 at that time. Just checked vacuum switch it's super hot. Just checked the vacuum generator as per curiosity , that was also super hot. Whether cleaning helps ? If yes , I'll not try by myself as I don't have all the torx bits . May go to nearby garage for a helping hand. ASS people will only say to replace it..Thanks ..

      Hi there, vacuum pump generally gets really hot while operation under 2 mins. And regarding the solenoid, it too get a bit hot sometime really hot, jusk make sure its working to actuate the components and doesn't make a high roaring noise. Both these components are maintenance free parts there's nothin we can do like cleaning or smthin.

    • @jinurajkr
      @jinurajkr Před 2 lety +1

      @@dailyhandsdiy thanks buddy for quick reply. I doubt just because of few observations. Checked with fellow rapids with same config , in that solenoid is getting warm only not hot. In my case , it's super hot that it will burn our hands. One of the technician at service centre got burnt . Another thing is that even after changing the solenoid , if we start and keep it in idling condition, within 2 or 3 if we touch the solenoid getting too hot, even the engine temperature is around 50 to 60. And while holding the solenoid when engine runs, we can feel the solenoid inside is moving abruptly . After switching off the engine , there is a humming noise is there from the part for few seconds. In the case of previous solenoid which we changed, the starting was almost like this. Firstly some vibrations which we can feel when we hold it, then slowly progressing it to noise plus vibration of the entire unit. And finally , too much vibrations and noises all the time. Even that was making wired noises just after switching off the engine. I fear the new part also may follow the same. That's y I'm continuously watching it. Luckily , as it's covid situations , that it run very low kilometers per month.. thank you..

    • @dailyhandsdiy
      @dailyhandsdiy  Před 2 lety +1

      these components works independently,no relation to engine temp. those get hot n can cause a burn if touched. thats ok but to cnfirm, should check voltage to solenoid,if it get a stable voltage or overcharged.

    • @jinurajkr
      @jinurajkr Před 2 lety +1

      @@dailyhandsdiy Thanks brother .. will check the entire vacuum loop and voltage. Ideally, bu not 100%, the new solenoid switch should be silent and solenoid inside it should be static when can is idling. That's not the case in my case. Thanks buddy for reading and replying 😍😍😍

    • @dailyhandsdiy
      @dailyhandsdiy  Před 2 lety +1

      Should be aware that the solenoid is actuated using other parameters from Maf, map and egr readings. Do make sure all these sensors are working good and cleaned periodically.
