    Also yeah I've already upgraded it so stay tuned for that video.

  • @yonisapir6270
    @yonisapir6270 Před 2 lety +7

    The gain in this amp series is absolutely mindblowing considering the price. Better than a lot of more expensive SS amps. A cheap way to get that 'wall of distortion' sound that you see in live shows is to take this amp, another amp that has a different sounding distortion like a marshall SS amp and hook them both up to an EHX switchblade and use both A+B channels.

    Awesome demo, ola. \m/ I’m a huge peavey fan agree that peavey vypyr amps are phenomenal. I also agree that these modeling amps are underrated. I use to own a peavey vypyr vip 1 amp and I personally like that amp better than a line 6 spider amp. It has such a raw and organically heavy sound. I personally like the 6550 and xxx models on this amp in heavy mode. Plus some of the other effects like chorus and synth effects are pretty good.

  • @BosomNogomPanjIzvali
    @BosomNogomPanjIzvali Před 3 lety +10

    I owned this amp for several years, and it's brutal amp for the price. I used it on hunderds of gigs and not just for metal. I played even blues, funk, pop and dnb with it. In my opinion, if you play smaller gigs, up to 700-800 people, it is better option than some head/cab options.
    But one thing that bothered me the most is not the character of the amp, it is the high end hiss that every amp model produced when you implement the gain. If they fixed this problem, this very amp would be the next bandit 112 in terms of the mass usage.

    I am amazed to see a modern video on one of these! I bought a VIP 3 six years ago and it has served every need I had in guitar playing. I have never needed to get a new amp or very many pedals because this thing does SO MUCH. I can't believe how clear and present this thing sounds for a relatively cheap practice amp, I love this amp to death. Mine is beat to all hell, turning the knobs down actually makes them go UP for some reason, but using the software you can find online bypasses that issue pretty easily. I still use mine every day and only recently, after six years of using it, have I thought of selling it and using an amp sim on my computer. This thing still holds up against every other amp in its category and I wish more beginner guitarists would buy these instead of Line 6 amps. I can't say enough good things about the Vypyr.

    My last Peavey was a Valveking212 and had no complaints in a decade!
    Again, maybe not the best tone machine, but hell they are the most reliable.
    Tip* change the speakers, use an extension cab and run your favorite pedals/emulators/etc in the front and you're going to be surprised!
    Great video Ola

    shit yeah, man, I have a 30w vyper and tbh it's more brutal than just about any other ssamp out there I've tried in over 20 years. Hook up a brutal pedal and use the amp for an overdrive and you have yourself some super sick old school black metal goodness

    Alright Ola , I love the peavey distortion I'm using the old studio pro 65 watt from the late eighties. I bypassed the factory speaker and wired it to my 4x12 cab and it is louder and is just as brutal. I like it better than my marshall 3130 100watt head, cheers.

    Peavey has produced some seriously amazing amps over the years.
    Not all were thát great, but if I think back to the 80s and what was possible with a solid-state Bandit, for instance?.. An absolute classic!
    Then again I owned a Peavey Classic tube combo amp, and that one just didn't do anything useful for me.
    Overall a good, solid brand.

    the vypyr was my first "real" amplifier back in 2009. I had a loooooong way to go as far as a stage-ready rig goes, but I had so much fun with mine back when I was 17. glad to see my parents didn't completely drop the ball in getting me that thing

    I threw a V30 into a Katana 50 combo and it improved the sound and response 1000%. I got a tighter, punchier response with more growl, increased clarity, and it kept up with our drummer way easier and cut way better without having to sacrifice EQ. Put one in the Vyper so I can hear it and go blow 500 on an amp and speaker I don’t need! Peavey is such underrated gear!

  • @fjpoole

    Thanks for the great review ... you probably like the amp so much because unlike the Boss and Line 6 the VYPYR uses analog distortion (TransTube). The Power Sponge is also part of it and actually patented - it simulates turning down the power section of a tube amp, and the SAG of a real tube amplifier. The gate on it is really not designed to be the type of gate you would find in a pedal....it's more to get rid of background noise and we realize it could be improved. The VYPYR Pro does have an adjustable gate. I hear you on the interface ...hard to control all that stuff from the front of an amp...most of the competitors you have to use outboard gear or USB to access features at least you can get to all features from the amp itself - Thanks again! -Fred

I have had a question for the longest time ad I've researched the topic all over the place and really can't find what I'm looking for. I own a Peavey Valveking II 100 watt head that comes equipped with the XLR Record out jack on the back. I run my focusrite straight into it and then into Reaper and I get a pretty good chug tone out of it. Are there any tips you have for recording using this method??

    Peavey has been a great brand for decades, especially if you wanna do metal ! I loved the valveking, classic 30 (this one doesnt look like a metal amp, but it can do 80's heavy pretty well) and the Bandit 112 i had. I loved especially the Bandit for its warmth, sturdy construction and of course this grindin' distortion that became a classic. Apparently the Ultra is really good and of course the 5150/6505 is the way to go for metal, may it be oldschool or modern (also one of my favorites, never owned one, but always loved to play these). The Vypyr is no exception, but i'm not a fan of the digital processing thing goin'on inside, but that's more of a matter of taste from someone who owns amps twice his age ! So to sum it up, the vypyr is indeed good, and as long as it gets the job done, well, it's the right tool. Have a nice day everyone !

    Upgrading the speaker cone would be cool to see. Maybe in the comparison you could also put it up against the real Peavy tube head + cab to see how close the combo speaker upgrade would get you to the real deal.
