Batman: Arkham City is a 2011 action-adventure game developed by Rocksteady Studios and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. Based on the DC Comics superhero Batman, it is the sequel to the 2009 video game Batman: Arkham Asylum and the second installment in the Batman: Arkham series. Written by veteran Batman writer Paul Dini with Paul Crocker and Sefton Hill, Arkham City was inspired by the long-running comic book mythos. In the game's main storyline, Batman is incarcerated in Arkham City, a super-prison enclosing the decaying urban slums of fictional Gotham City. He must uncover the secret behind a sinister scheme orchestrated by the facility's warden, Hugo Strange. The game's leading characters are predominantly voiced by actors from the DC Animated Universe, with Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill reprising their roles as Batman and the Joker, respectively.
The game is presented from the third-person perspective with a primary focus on Batman's combat and stealth abilities, detective skills, and gadgets that can be used in both combat and exploration. Batman can freely move around the Arkham City prison, interacting with characters and undertaking missions, and unlocking new areas by progressing through the main story or obtaining new equipment. The player is able to complete side missions away from the main story to unlock additional content and collectible items. Batman's ally Catwoman is another playable character, featuring her own story campaign that runs parallel to the game's main plot.
Rocksteady conceived ideas for a sequel while developing Arkham Asylum, commencing serious development of Arkham City's story in February 2009. The layout of Arkham City has a virtual footprint five times that of Arkham Asylum, and the city design was modified to accommodate Batman's ability to swoop and glide. Over a year and $10 million were spent on the game's marketing campaign, and its release was accompanied by two music albums; one containing the game's score, and the other featuring 11 original songs inspired by the game from various mainstream artists.
Arkham City was released worldwide for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 video game consoles in October 2011, followed by a Microsoft Windows version a month later. The game received critical acclaim, particularly for its narrative, character and world designs, soundtrack, and Batman's combat and navigation abilities. It was tied with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim for the highest-rated video game of 2011 according to review aggregator Metacritic, and was the recipient of several awards from media outlets, including Game of the Year, Best Action Game, Best Action Adventure Game, Best Adventure Game, and Best Original Score. Like its predecessor, it is considered one of the greatest video games of all time. A spin-off mobile game, Batman: Arkham City Lockdown was released in December. Arkham City has received several re-releases, comprising: a Game of the Year edition in May 2012; Wii U and OS X versions in November and December 2012, respectively; and a remastered version for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in October 2016. A prequel to the series, Batman: Arkham Origins, was released in October 2013, and a narrative sequel, Batman: Arkham Knight, was released in June 2015.

forgot to mention this came out the day after my 17th birthday. for some reason that made it extra special ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
You gonna skip origin? That game is so underappreciated
@@shadymello9146 The story in Origins is really good but the game runs like dogshit even on beast PC's tbh
@@shadymello9146 He did play Origins
@@Igor19485 what? It ran fine on my 1050ti
I had no wifi too 😂
Rest in peace Kevin Conroy...
He will be missed as our Batman☹️
🪦
as a 13 year old child i didnt had internet just movies and a ps3 with just the batman games. im so happy i completed it without internet. the riddler trophys were so fun and hard. i replayed them directly after i finished it because i could not believe that i litteraly can play a long movie and can experience so many easter eggs. sometimes i finished it at 5 in the evening and started a new game and go to bed at 12 in the night. i miss those times where i was soooo blown away from games.
As that same kid with internet now I can confidently say I would also be very happy😂
Same, was playing it also in ps3 even its console that limited the game due to shared memory
Ditto, the riddler trophy's for me get a bit annoying and time consuming
when were you born if i can ask? i was born 02. I think we were almost the same age when we played these games
A time to be alive my brother especially with games back then the golden age made with passion and love. Not microtrans ads and live service. Halo 2 was way shorter but I've definitely beaten it over 30 times that was my life and still a big part today
As a kid who didn't own any console other than the Wii for most of my childhood, CZcams playthroughs of Batman Arkham City were my childhood.
Amen brother!
Kwingletsplays!
@@thegamingprozone1941 That's a core memory for me.

@@zavenpapyan426 You are safe here, my friend.
Arkham trilogy is the game series I replayed the most, I honestly lost count how many times I replayed these games on PC and PS4
NOW thats the game where i truly can tell, this was MY childhood. The batman games where my first games ever i played them over 12 times to 100 % and i never played games that have so many details except rockstar games. a week ago i played asylum again on platinum and a month ago knight. but yeah knight is the worst
@@Snaaake_Beater I respect your opinion although I actually enjoyed knight the most lol
Origins and knight where my favorites knight would be the only one if it didn't overuse tanks
Same here, i love replaying The Arkham games especially Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. i have replayed them countless times. Arkham origins was pretty good but was alright in comparison to the other games i played. I need to play Arkham knight and i am sure i might love it to some degree. However, i still think Arkham city would be my favourite because of the story, world, combat, execution and iconic boss fights.
@@Sean-idk even though the tanks had such a huge part in the game, there are 3 other games with just batman combat so honestly it feels fine
I can feel the impact of the punches based on how it sounds. That's how great the sound design is in this game.
5:39 I like how the place looks like Two Face the left looks clean and nice and the right looks bad
Harley: "coming through B-man!"
Batman: punches her and doesn't give a single f
Harley: quirky "ow"
For those who don’t know. If you look up at a building at the beginning, you can see Azrael.
Literally cannot count how many times I've played this trilogy. Absolute masterpieces
This game is so far ahead of every other superhero games even to this day that it's astounding, unequivocally the greatest superhero game of all time and a top 10 game for me period. Video games peaked in 2011
yeah and that's why its game of the year!
I've been replaying the watch dogs series because of your awesome videos. then today I thought why not play some good old Arkham City. Got done with Solomon Grundy, then see this video. Great minds think alike lmao.
Would love to see you play the Mafia series or play Watch Dogs: Legion Campaign as Aiden & Wrench. Keep up the great content!
oh thanks man! really glad you're enjoying :) i've definitely thought about mafia!! and i want to go back to legion for sure... perhaps the AC dlc?
@@jayveeeee There are “Assassin Contracts” which should appear in the side missions. But, it's an ok effort to mix the predator/hacking combo. Especially because the Spider-bot is OP.
Overall, it has some nice Easter Eggs, and you get to explore a tomb. But kind of lack luster, imo. Also cause the parkour system is downgraded I feel like. Best ubisoft parkour was around AC 3-AC Syndicate/Watch Dogs 2.
If you buy the season pass for 40 bucks, or get its content from Ubisoft+ for 15 bucks a month. You get access to 4 “heroes” (team members) in the main campaign.
Aiden Pearce, Wrench, Darcy Clarkson (Assassin, with a hidden blade utility), and Mina, who is an operative with special powers. You can buy different ops with powers in the shop. You don't need to buy any of these characters to buy/win the game, but they definitely make the game a lot easier.
As far as “playing as an assassin,” it’s not really the best experience considering most of the levels are way easier if you just use your spider-bot to take down guards and shroud them. It’s cool that you have the ability to sneak up and use the hidden blade though.
And again, idk why the parkour system feels kinda sloppy/clunky in this game. It also depends on operative because some can run faster than others, making the flow between characters kind of weird. But I guess more realistic lmao.
I was 11 when this game released and still to this day it was the game I was most hyped to play. Must’ve watched every trailer before it came out and it was the first game I cared enough to preorder, and boy did it deliver! I particularly loved how crucial Hugo Strange and Ra’s were to the story, particularly Hugo Strange given that he’s not known as well as other big name Batman villains
0:48 Those carpet physics are top notch. The Last of Us was praised for a little bump on the carpet. This game did more of that years ago.
I worked on this, said it many a time but big career highlight for me. :) Thanks for playing!
Im currently going through another batman binge. Trying to 100% them all
Same
Stairs sadly ruin the illusion
I’ve been replaying this since 2013. It’s kinda funny because I just started replaying this again on on pc and started watching others play on CZcams. This was very enjoyable. You make good content!
This was one of the first games I ever played as a kid and it holds a very special place in my heart I’m glad to see it’s still held up and is still well regarded
Loved the batman games. Literally spent hours and hours playing non stop.
me too. literally dude I kept playing for hours man. just like you said NON-STOP.
I love that you excitedly play games you're clearly interested in. Reminds me of BaronVonGames' earlier days.
4:54 "You don't wanna see Batman using a bat. He would never, because that would cause brain damage. He only wants to cause brain damage with his fists" Can't wait for him to get to Knight!
As a 9-year-old who didn't have any internet, just a ps3 and the arkham games, and the black Ops games, arkahm City was my first introduction to the arkahm franchise it still holds a special place in my heart to this day .
The best super hero game ever . But it's so weird you posted this video hours ago because I just started thinking of this game again today
love watcching your replay of classy games. Just bought the arkham bundle and been playing myself. I also bought the witcher while you made its replay. Weird coincidence :)
Man i remember been in school and dont stop thinking about the game, i should pass it like 50 times, just playing the game like an entire year and still today i keep playing it. Just a Master piece
yoo thats wild bro i just replayed this game for the first time in years, its so good i forgot how much i love this game, finally beat riddler for the first time too, always gave up on him when i was younger, such a great game
I seriously need a remastered version of this gem 😢
Please jayvee make this happen 😭
i remember playing the demo on the ps3 all the time and when i got the full game it instantly became one of my favorite games of all time and still is one of my favorite
fun fact: penguins voice actor is Nolan North, he is a really famous voice actor and has done voices for people like Nathan Drake, Desmond Miles, Modi, Ghost in Destiny, and a lot more!
Who ?

Wtf Nolan did penguin I did not know that
He did Deadpool too my favorite Voice of all time

Knight is the best
This game is pretty much a 10 on every aspect. There's like an hour-long video explaining that they could have had a better in depth analysis of Batman overall and also the combat could have been more engaging to the player. You can more or less hit the same button for hours straight and turn off your brain to get through this game successfully.
got it for christmas when it first came out, still my fav batman game till this day
I remember playing this as a 7 year old child on my ps3 and it was so good, i replayed it so many times and always loved it
Best in the series in my opinion!
Fr. City has the scale of Knight with the Gothic mystique of Asylum. The perfect middle ground.
Agreed, this is my favourite Arkham game and Batman game of all time. Such a badass and iconic Superhero and Batman game.
@@karanvirsingh7829 bro you just described how i feel, currently playing asylum in my low end pc though i wanted something more open worldly like knight and I'm thinking to download this and so question will it run in my 8 gb ram, amd athlon silver 3050U, 2gb vram? cause asylum runs smoothly!!
@ayothatbryson? Yeah arkham city runs on my pc n I've a worse graphics card than u
I played this game so much when it came out.
I'm 13 years old and I completed story twice. Once in normal gameplay and completed it again in NG±. The riddler trophies were so annoying but the same time it was kinda fun.
I remember playing this game at 6 years old it was fanomanal, but I remember the scene where u have to walk up to BANE ,he looked so scary i didn't even want to do the mission.
When i was 7 years old i got my first console. A ps3 that was the best years of my life. The most i remember from this game is that one house i dont know how to describe it in words but those years were the best.
Missed this art style of the franchise. The shell shaded look had its charm.
Cel shade (or cell shade), not shell shade
Not cell shaded though, just stylized
Happy 12th Anniversary 🎉 Batman Arkham City is a masterpiece game, one of my all time favorites, the Clayface fight at the end was my highlight, he’s one of my favorite comic book villains and Rocksteady did a phenomenal job with the character👏👏👏 🦇🦇🦇
I am so happy that this game has such a cult following. These games were also my childhood, although, this is the one I remember the most. I was only seven years old when my dad beat it.
At the start when playing as Bruce going into the prison if you look up you can see Batman watching over you such a cool Easter egg !!
I still can't believe the game came out in 2011 and it still looks good today but I wish the actor was still alive Kevin Conroy
My first game I ever played was Arkham city in 2013 at 6 years old , and I loved it and still play it to this day cause is soo good it’s like a real movie .
My childhood started with Atari 2600 and by my teens I was playing Playstation. Child me being absolutley blown away by every new nintendo was a magical feeling I've never had since.
This was the first Batman Arkham game I ever played, I love it so much.
I'm replaying this right now, it's so fun
Keep up the great content
I remember what made me get this game was the ad for it on my green lantern dvd lol
Same, i first played this game on my 7th birthday
Btw to take down that hammer dude you have to stun him three times it's called an ultra stun that works on the big enemies
The reason why I always watch this channel is because when he play a game he don't spoiled what will happen in the game and he just do all funny 😂😂🤣 stuff in the game.....
I had to google what to do to get into mr freezes lair when I played back then too was completely lost and spent hours confused when this game originally came out
i feel now sooo smart because as a 13 year old child i didnt had internet just movies and a ps3 with just the batman games. im so happy i completed it without internet. the riddler trophys were so fun and hard. i replayed them directly after i finished it because i could not believe that i litteraly can play a long movie and can experience so many easter eggs. sometimes i finished it at 5 in the evening and started a new game and go to bed at 12 in the night. i miss those times where i was soooo blown away from games.
I grew up on the PS1 PS2 Nintendo GameCube and the PS3 I remember when Batman Arkham City came out I was 13 and Batman Arkham City was one of my favorite games of the PS3 era
Man u may not believe me but i was 14 year old when i pirated this game shortly after release , my sisters laptop could hardly play it above 25 frames in lowest settings + lowest resolution but i sure did enjoy the game to the fullest and now i have platinum for the full trilogy on my ps5.
I was this years old when I realized you could initiate the punch on Harley without waiting to counter 😂😂😂😂
2nd game I ever played has a special place in my heart 👊
*ME TOO!!*
the arkham games are peak batman
I was 8 or 9 and played this game on the ps3, and the court just creeps me out
still play through this with nodded skins and new techniques
A masterpiece and i'm glad i got to play it in highschool
My childhood was Barbarian, California Games and Jack The Nipper 2 on the C64. Mine had a lot less pixels.
I love this series! For me it's the definitive Batman
Yooo, don't you dare skip Origins, story and bosses im that game are amazing
Fun easter egg: Azrael can be seen standing on a rooftop when the gates to Arkham City opens. Didn't notice that for years playing the game.
There is also a mission with him, where you have to find him 3 times across the map
Peak series
First time saw Batman ac that was by my uncle he gave me the game it was a masterpiece
23:41. He decked him. These devs used to give such attention to detail.
You played Insomniac's Spider-Man recently and you press O to dodge from what I remember so I think that's why you wanted to keep pressing B to counter here.
man now i need to play this gem again❤
This game specially but all the arkham games (yes including origins) all still hold up
THANK GOD! Thought I was the only one who forgot how to slide
I play with a lot of gadgets & more like Batman/a ninja, stealthy. Also use quick gadgets
Fun fact this game is the best interpertation of batman
Also the shortest, as Bruce didn't fight crime until retirement age, meet Superman nor found the Justice League. Hell, I think Bruce wasn't even 35 when Jason Todd did an oopsie with Arkham Knight shenanigans.
This game never gets old for me 😎❤️🤗
Way to make a guy feel old with the title
I was selling this game in my Blockbuster... was it really that long ago lol
this is one of the goats of video games
This is my childhood too bro
I honestly thought and still think this game is perfect from story to gameplay, all in all 9.5/10
“I feel like I’m vinely “ 😂
Man that makes the two of us
I played this when i was 5 childhood memories
W game I loved this game as a child and I still love it till this day
the detective mode was what made me absolutely love Origins
because it felt really fleshed out and more of the investigative style of Batman that we didn't get a lot in the Trilogy
Arkham Asylum was my childhood, my mother bought it for me as a gift all wrapped up
They don't make games like this anymore absolute gem
what really? but its still a good game though Im enjoying alot from it! one of best games out of the entire whole year. PERIOD.
Love the game just wished that this game n knight had more ways in the lvl design to use the different takedowns
I miss it!
We need more Batman games
RIP Conroy, there will be none like you
I played this game for YEARS and I NEVER thought of hitting Harely 😂😂😂
