This is basically a Kirby game where you kill an Angel by running it over with a truck.

I really like how they acknowledge the kirby dance is something kirby just does in universe, since dedede slowly walks behind kirby and the gang with a cage while they just pose and leon starts looking confused but slowly gets into it

@BONK! Unlike Kirby, who temporarily absorbs both Copy Abilities and special powers from his enemies and environment, The Soul bosses and Morpho seem able to retain and expand their arsenal inbetween adventures.
The implication here being that they may one day become strong enough that Kirby and his friends cannot hope to defeat them anymore.

@BONK! Well the events of Guest Star in Star Allies are non-canon. Which implies that Morpho Knight is his own being and not a fusion between the butterfly and Galacta Knight. Basically Morpho Knight naturally looks the way he is. It seems he just requires a powerful soul to simply evolve his butterfly form into the divine warrior we all know, love and fear.
I really hope they continue to use Kirby’s “Oh shit” face in future titles.
It used to be common in the old Retro ones and then just kinda disappeared.
I kinda prefer the design of this type of face in Super Star Ultra and Triple Deluxe. Don't worry, if you see these instance you'll probably know why.

This is the review I was waiting the most finally, after beating and 100% the game weeks ago, is really nice to see how everyone is really loving this game and the beginning of Kirby's new era

Fun fact: while the pause screens no longer shows a flavor text for the abilities, viewing the abilities in the weapons shop, as well as the gotcha figures will provide text for the abilities, objects and bosses.
This. There is a LOT of flavor text to go through while in Waddle Dee town. Kinda like that they locked most of it there so that your focus could stay on the adventure when you're out doing it.
I'm surprised no one is mentioning how the portals throughout the game look exactly like the ones from Return to Dreamland.

I think it may be hinted throughout several games that the warp portals all come from the technology that the creatures/people created from Fecto Elfilis's abilities. You can see it a bit when you fight the Lor Starcutter, and I think the Nova's and the massive tower from Robobot, hint at it as well. Not sure if it's all a conincedence, or if it is connected, but it is pretty neat!

The biggest hype moment for me was the realization that the Morpho Knight battle was, for the first time, most likely canon.
He appeared in Star Allies as well, so it was canon before this

@@markissuffering it’s stated that Knight form is only when it absorbs enough power to take it, which means that it’s not just exclusive to Galacta Knight. The two share canonicity in the fact that not every encounter is canon. For instance, Morpho’s Star Allies appearance isn’t canon, but his Forgotten Land appearance is. The same goes for Galacta’s RTDL and Planet Robobot appearance, in comparison to his Super Star Ultra appearance being canon. That’s just how it is.

Definitely competition.. but man this game is so good, im working on 100% the game and I’m in post game right now, and i feel like the people who reviewed the game didn’t know the post game existed just based on how the reviews talk about the fame
Funny thing with Sleep. The heal is now so strong that I *actually* grabbed it intentionally at times, to heal up. It helps that dropped abilities now last for a little while after you eat another ability. So it’s possible to drop an ability, grab sleep, heal a bit, and then get your power back.
Not only that, upgraded sleep gives you a buff if you wait the full duration. Just pop the old ability, get a nap, wake up and swallow it again. I love finding sleeps on a stage.
Another cool thing is that upgraded sleep gives you free buffs if you sleep through the full duration. It can be damage ups, speed ups, or even an HP boost.
@@lu2doe funny thing there is that you even get the buffs if you grab Sleep from the ability shop in waddle dee town. And you don’t run out the buff clock in waddle dee town.
Kinda puts the buff shop out of business, honestly.
@@RedLuigiGames deep Sleep also doesn’t automatically trigger when you pick it up. Base sleep has Kirby get drowsy, then fall asleep a few seconds later, but Deep Sleep only goes off when you hit the button.
It makes the occasional puzzle that has Sleep pedestals as obstacles much easier.
@@enlongjones2394 Deep Sleep's buffs caps at 200 seconds so the item shop still have a purpose for stacking buffs. Plus, Life Up is just a superior Maximum Tomato so there's also that.

As a small correction to your story synopsis, you mention that all the members of the Beast Pack are freed from their mind control. In actuality, it's only Dedede and Leon who are controlled by Fecto Forgo. If you read the other members' lore notes in their figure descriptions, you'll learn that most of them just go along with Leon because they have respect for him that they think whatever it is he's trying to do is the right thing. This is especially apparent in Clawroline's notes where you find out her old name was actually just Carol but she changed it when Leon became Leongar.

I genuinely think Forgotten Land is a MUST-play for anyone that has a Switch, it's such a good game! Exploring the linear levels is shockingly fun with the addition of the Extra Missions! (Although, admittedly, Robobot is still my favorite game in the franchise)
And also, I personally thought that even for Kirby standards, this game's music was PHENOMENAL!!! "Northeast Frost Street" and "A Trip to Alivel Mall" are some pretty good examples, and (Like Antdude mentioned at 9:21) Dedede's Theme in this game is such a huge highlight
(Little fun fact, "Northeast Frost Street" and "Roar of Dedede", along with various other highlights in the OST, were composed by Yuuta Ogasawara, a newcomer to the HAL team!)

I highly doubt Fecto Forgo or its other forms will be a recurring villain in the franchise, purely because of how the battle concludes with its chaos form. The last remnants of it is absorbed into Elfilin who now becomes the main host body of the ultimate life form. The beast now finally complete with the good half now in control.
It made the whole story that much more satisfying!

Sword of the Surviving Guardian is one of my favorite Kirby songs to date, I love how it uses motifs from My Friend and the Setting Sun
Tons of great songs in this game. Dedede’s themes (“Roar of Dedede” and “Masked And Wild, Dedede”) are amazing, and the final boss theme has one of the most hilariously extra names for a Kirby theme (“Two Planets Approach The Roche Limit”)

@@simpsonsfanatic777 i like how it is, the achievements are easy enough to be achieved if you explore a little the levels and think outside the box, so at most you'll be missing one at the end.
Sometimes it's not really great tho.
Like you go through a level, and then the game tells you you missed one poster you had no idea you could interact with, or you didn't notice.
Now you have to redo the entire level just to get that poster, and when you're done it just feels like you wasted your time.
If only you could keep your missions completed when exiting an already finished level, it would not be as bad.

Funny thing, getting the sword for the Meta Knight is completely optional.
So it wasn't until my final fight with Meta Knight for a Rare Stone that I realized getting the sword added so many things to the fight. And then as it turns out, there's more I didn't know about the fight.
Being able to take Meta Knight's sword and having it automatically become the 3rd tier sword upgrade and then Meta Knight getting his original sword is just such an awesome, easily missed detail.

11:19 Okay, so Deep Sleep is actually amazing. It gives you a random stat buff when you use it. That means you can guve yourself every stat buff and go into a level with it. No need to buy the stat powerups, you can just get double health whenever you want!

@@darienb1127 Using any power-up in the Colosseum will put a marker on your recorded time. I personally prefer having proof of having beaten it without power-ups, haha.

25:12 I'm not scared of butterflies. I just have nothing but resentment and hatred for that specific one due to preventing me from fighting my all time favorite Kirby boss in Star Allies.
I greatly prefer Galacta Knight over that orange wannabe. Galacta actually intimidates me and I feel a rush when fighting him. Morpho I find to be a bore due to him being a pathetic coward who teleports instead of guarding against attacks. Galacta is able to take a hit and knows it, considering he actually guards and counter attacks during fights against him. Morpho, especially in this game, pretends to guard but teleports out of the way because he knows he can't take a hit.
Thankfully, Galacta hasn't been in any of the canon Kirby game modes so far, so its likely he'll return one day in the future. But the fact Morpho was added to canon Kirby lore before him really pisses me off.
I like that this forgotten land seems to have a lot of references to crystal shards, like clutter needle referncing Swiss army and the drill ability becoming its own fleshed out ability. It's a cool way to call back to the roots of "3-d" kirby
Not to mention Dedede has his 64 proportions again, Volcano Fire reference to Fire/Rock and Dragon Fire reference to Fire/Fire, Vending Mouth might be a reference to Electric/Ice (Fridge) Kirby, Lightbulb Mouth might be a reference to Electric/Bomb (Light bulb kirby)

Not exactly. It's a mix of the number 8 and 6. 八 (Hachi) is 8 and 六 (Roku) is six. 86 is 八十六 (Hachi Juu Roku)
It's supposed to sound like a mix of 8 and 6 to sound similar to HAL. Japanese love word play.
Half disappointed HAL room 2's song in the song list is number 76 instead of 86. :V
Pretty sure haru would be how you spell HAL in Japanese as they use R's for L's.

My wife preordered this game for me as a late-anniversary gift (for obvious legal reason couldn't get it before it came out). I've got really hyped up by playing the demo before, but man it was so worth the wait. I've been loving every second of it. I completed the main story yesterday, now I'm working my way through the post-game. And all this time I was like "man, Anthony is going to looove this game". This year there are so many great titles coming out on Switch, it may take a while to get and get through them all, but in the meantime I can enjoy Kirby with a big child smile, my wife can enjoy watching me sparkle with joy and play togheter, and I can finally see Anthony making a great video about a great game. Everybody wins.

I really miss the pause lore stuff but i need to admit that going solo and knowing absolutely nothing about the new bosses was the perfect move for this game,like you are on a post apocalyptic world so it makes sense and also the unexpected voice acting for the ending caught me out of guard and let me very very exciting to see what was that ultimate life form

My only disappointment was that the fact i was looking forward to it so much meant i got through ALL OF IT within 4 days. I’ve just been grinding the true arena to max upgrade every ability. Loved it so much, heavy melancholy that it’s over….for now
The game's lore can be found in the Gatcha figures, one goes into detail about Leongar and Clawroline's past (different names).
I think it's worth mentioning that both Liongar and Elfillis both have attacks that aren't very different from those of Void Termina's, specifically the X-slash and Elfillis' staff-dragging move.
Also note that Forgo Clawroline has the x-slash as well

Forgotten Lands is probably my favorite Kirby game at this point. It’s really just a natural and fantastic jump to a truly 3D Kirby. The lore is just as eldritch filled as ever. The abilities are all great, the Space Ranger and Dragon Fire abilities are my favorite regular non-referential abilities, but the final ability is my most favorite for how broken it makes you. Also the dodge roll really serves this game well and makes combat feel really good. Hoping this game gets some good DLC, like new levels and returning abilities.

I'm kinda hoping for an Octo Expansion sort of DLC, although I guess Heroes in Another Dimension is a better comparison since it's also Kirby. Some extra challenge + adding more to the lore is what I so desperately want.

@@andrewstephenson5825 The game's postgame content is essentially a lot like Heroes in Another Dimension already, so not sure if that will happen. Personally I'm hoping for an update to flesh out the multiplayer a bit.
Agreeable, but I'm just sad the story doesn't go to deep. There isnt a big explanation, barely any setup to the story, and everything happens at the end which is really disappointing.
@@Thegreensheepchannel There IS a big explanation- in form of a both unfortunate but incredibly appropriate and atmospheric lore dump. The story not getting deep is definitely what you wouldn't say regarding the game, especially considering the figurines which give you more insight of the events of the game. In regards of how the story's told, I'll be honest: there's definitely some very skin-incinerating tonal whiplash at the end, but honestly, as I said before, it does it exceptionally with its atmosphere- hell, it seems like the game wanted you to be confused through the very happy music and voice that played during the unexpected tour of Lab Discovera . There IS somewhat of foreshadowing of the events to come, through the suspiciously lion-esque design of the Waddle Dee Cages and the end of the King Dedede fight of Winter Horns.
I've never played a Kirby game, but I've enjoyed your videos on the franchise, including this one. The gameplay looks and sounds pretty amazing and your excitement for the game throughout the review was really great too. I might check this game out sometime in the future. Congratulations on getting so many subscribers too.

Was waiting for this, I'm curious what Copy Ability you would wanna see brought into the next 3D game.
I would be curious to see how they handle Beam or Mirror in 3D, but I would probably want Yo-Yo or Spear back (Yo-Yo i'm bias as an Earthbound fan, and Bandana Dee has been the only way to use Spear both in Star allies and this game, so why not make it a full fledged Ability again?)
Beam has always been a bread and butter ability for Kirby, if they don't at least add it in a dlc for forgotten land, imma be mad
Also, spear might be exclusive to bandana Dee now, in order to make a him unique.
I feel like part of Beam and part of Archer went into the Ranger ability. It's long aerial is like Beam's run aerial, and it's charged ground attack is similar to Beam's charge attack too. It's not a great reason not to want Beam, but it's interesting to me.

This is honestly my favorite Kirby game so far, I've played, except for most of the spin-offs, all Kirby games and yet this one, this one is more perfect than I've ever wanted a Kirby game to be, everything in the game really works well in 3D and I've actually finished the game at 100% in 2 weeks because I love it so much, I still think there isn't enough references to past Kirby games (I'm talking Robobot type of fan service, the entire selling plot of star allies WAS the fan service) but honestly, that's not a huge problem
Yeah. Don't get me wrong, fan service is awesome, but after Planet Robobot and Star Allies, I didn't mind this one not having a ton of it.
There's actually a good number of references, but much of it is to Crystal Shards.

This Game has so much Variety and Fun Gameplay Elements, its hard NOT to love it.
And any Game that has Free Ingame Collection/Gacha, is A Favorite of mine.

Now that we have this, I just can't wait to see Popstar in full 3D. Imagine if we got Kirby's Dreamland remade into 3D, that would be so cool.

Kirby's Dreamland in 3D already exists since 2017, it's called Kirby's Blowout Blast. For me Forgotten Land is the *second* 3D Kirby game, and while it's pretty good, it's *NOT* perfect.

@@roostergamerbubsy3d I played Blowout Blast, and it really isn't a Dreamland in 3D. It's a collection of short levels with only three bosses, missing characters like Whispy Woods. I think, if they reworked Dreamland and reinvented it into a full Kirby game, it would be epic. Also Forgotten Land is the third 3D Kirby game, as Battle Royale, even though it isn't much of a Kirby game, it still is entirely in 3D.

Now that you bring it up, I’m genuinely curious how one would go about innovating 3D Kirby in the same way Odyssey/BOTW did for their respective series. But yeah, Forgotten Land is awesome! Looking forward to how future games will build upon it’s foundation.

I'm glad somebody pointed out how brutal the target times are. I think there were like 1 or 2 challenges that I didn't pass on the first try, but some of those target times would sometimes knock the soul from my body. I'd would be off by less than a second so often it was painful. I even TIED with a target time once, but thankfully it still gave me the clear.
Lol yeah. The Dragon Fire one was so brutal for me, it took me, like, 11 tries.
Edit: And that's only after searching up a video on how to do it, because I generally thought I was missing a strategy. Nope, there's no cheap strategy that I know to it, you literally just have to get good.
@@moonlightgarden1921 Though some DOES require to use the skill properly to actually meet the timings, like tornado practically requiring you to sequence break to hit the timing.
When I fought Chaos Elfilis, the same exact thing happened to me. I had no idea there was going to be a second part so I didn't conserve hp and I then died to the stupid black hole ability. I even had the space ranger ability too.
