This thumri was composed by the late Pt. Vasantrao Deshpande. Thumri is a genre closely connected to dance, love poetry and folk songs in North Indian (Hindustani) classical music. It is a modern format and this thumri goes back to the 19th century with links to the Indian classical dance form ‘Katthak’. It depicts a protagonist announcing that the fishes in the river Ganga have taken her ‘bindiya’ (a sticker work on the forehead), and now it needs to be fetched by her brother-in-law.
