  • Doctor Sleep Behind The Scenes - Stephen King & Ewan Mcgregor Interview
"Doctor Sleep" is the continuation of Danny Torrance's story 40 years after the terrifying events of Stephen King's The Shining. Still irrevocably scarred by the trauma he endured as a child at the Overlook, Dan Torrance has fought to find some semblance of peace.

I loved the scene but it was a disservice to kill off Danny, in the novel, he goes back to work at the hospice, has been sober for 15 years, and continues to use his “shine” to comfort the dying elderly and show then memories of their childhoods/loved ones, as well as assure them that “we do not end”, allowing them to die in peace, hence the title “Doctor (Doc) Sleep”

Tbh at first i get no expectations with the movie, but i agree with stephen. The movie feels like homage to both stephen king and stanley kubrick. It does stand of it’s own and does not force the movie to be “kubrick”-y. It’s really thrilling in its own way.

the only thing I did not really care for was the stand in for Jack at the end. Just no impact for me. The actress that did Shelley's part fucking nailed it, how she could not over act the impression of Shelley's overacting was mindblowing ha. I don't know I just feel that with the massive improvement in deaging tech I was hoping they would get Nicholson back at least for the voice aspect and do some tricks not to make him look as he does now. No insult to that actor though but he just could never recapture Jack's presence.

I liked the movie and I don't usually watch SK horror. It's just not something I enjoy but I do love SK's non-horror. Only criticism of the movie was that it seemed a bit rushed in places. Just as I was getting into it something would resolve quickly and move on. Many things seem rushed these days though to be fair.

Listened to the audiobook, haven't seen the movie. It's funny hearing Mr. King announce what people will say about it, because that's exactly what I said about it.
I've read almost all of his books, and Dr. Sleep is the only one I'm aware of that feels as if it's a cash grab. He has been at times less inspired, but never deliberately dumb in the ways Dr. Sleep displays. There are things to appreciate, but it is ham-handed and juvenile in many places. Movie will undoubtedly par the material and birdie the presentation.

I finally got a chance to read both books the Shining and Doctor Sleep. After reading both book and watching the Shining again I really thing that it needs to be redone. I know Jack Nicholson played the role very well, I don't know if there can be anyone that can compare. For both of the stories to come together I do think that The Shining should be remade. I am not saying that I dislike The Shining I do love it but really wish that Kubrick would have stuck with the story in the book.

Doctor Sleep film sit in a movie continuum with Stanley Kubrick's icy and magnificent The Shining. Stanley Kubrick's The Shining have so dominated the culture that King's efforts to redirect the public to the source.

A great movie. My only complaint, they tried to shove too much crap in the bag.
This could have been 2 movies, easily. Do 2 great movies, instead of 65% of the first movie being great, and then starts falling apart because you're trying to shove too much crap in the bag.
The 2nd movie would be going back to the Overlook, and that would have guaranteed your audience; Especially fans of both books.

@@jeremyfrost2636 The overall concept is literally the same in both the book and the film. It changed some significant details, but that's a far cry from saying it "barely has anything to do with the book"
If a film adaptation is exactly the same as the book, then the adaptation has no purpose/value and the filmmaker cannot truly be called an artist.
