- It's strange that Jakarta isn't that well visited by tourists compared to other parts of Indonesia. Thus I decided to start my trip here and see what this mega city had to offer! Join me on a tour of some of the most popular neighborhoods of the city, as well some of my first impressions of the city since there was definitely some culture shock going on. Jakarta is a melting pot of different cultures and lifestyles so I would absolutely recommend putting it on your list of must sees when visiting Indonesia!

SafetyWing (best for younger travelers + digital nomads): www.safetywing.com/a/alinamcleod
I use both of these companies depending on the destination and requirements of entry. If you are going to be abroad for a long time and/or don't need as much coverage, I would recommend SafetyWing. BUT you cannot purchase SafetyWing WHILE in Canada or USA. You can only purchase once already abroad. Hey Mondo is more expensive but offers a higher level of coverage including plans that have trip cancellation/interruption insurance. Hey Mondo would be the better insurance to use if you need travel medical insurance when applying for a visa. Both companies cover covid. I am an affiliate for both companies, but I pay for my own policies.

In Indonesia the spoon is supposed to act like a knife while you hold the meat with the fork. The reason behind this is that we don't have many big chewy food like steak where you have to really use a knife for it. If we do have to eat something chewy in our food it's usually already pre cut into bite sized pieces where the knife would be then unecessary to use. For more complicated foods like crabs we just wash our hands thoroughly first and use them instead. This is how i as an Indonesian would understand it. Have fun exploring Indonesia!
Thanks for explaining!
@@AlinaMcleod if you want to travel in the Jakarta area, it is better to know the best places that have been built by the Indonesian government, because the capital city of Indonesia is very wide divided into several places
@@AlinaMcleod And if you want to travel nature in Indonesia, many of the best places are in the JAWWA archipelago, if you want to see Indonesia's paradise in Bali and on other islands,
@@AlinaMcleod If you're in Jakarta, don't forget to visit pantai indah kapuk , There are many interesting places like China town, LA RIVIERA
I sure you will love this a planet heaven on earth...
I lived in Jakarta for 3 years at the time you moved to Saskatchewan. My best memories are the people, always kind and welcoming. They are curious about foreigner, as you noticed (my son was 2 years old and lemon blond, you should have seen the success, all the women wanting to touch his hair...). Cafe Batavia was one of my favorite spots. My kids enjoyed the animal and flower markets, and the Komodo dragons at Ragunan zoo. Do not miss Jogjakarta, my favorite Indonesian city, and the historic sites of Borobodur and Prembanan. Thank you for bringing nice memories of Jakarta.
As an expat I am searching my job in Jakarta!
Thanks for showing me the parts of Jakarta that I've never seen. Menteng and Tanah Abang are the financial high-rise capital of Indonesia and so unlike the rest of the country. In the center of big cities like Bandung or Jogjakarta the tallest buildings are a dozen stories and there are just a handful of those.
You are always going to be noticed and stared at in Indonesia but don't take it for unfriendliness. Everywhere I went people asked personal questions and, of course, everyone wanted to get a selfie with me.
The spoon and fork thing is also common in other parts of SE Asia. Your meal had a lot of protein: fried egg and bakso and chicken. Much more common would rice and vegies and one type of meat.
Mantap
Not Menteng & Tanah Abang FYI!..But Thamrin - Sudirman Avenue with long more 4 kms square, Mega Kuningan CBD, Sudirman CBD, Rasuna Epicentrum at Rasuna, Gatot Soebroto Avenue and MT. Haryono Avenue with more 4 kms square also, S. Parman Avenue with 1,5 kms square, PIK 1/2 CBD at North Jakarta and Tangerang-Banten
Surabaya has more skyscrapers but not as many as Jakarta also Medan, Batam,Balikpapan and Makassara well, Bandung and Yogyakarta can not have many bcoz both city have tectonic and vulcanic earthquake potentials I believe, CMIIWW
As a Jakarta citizen, I met a lot of foreigners either in my office or other casual days. So I would to confirm it's NOT because of rare foreigners that makes people stare you.
But because you are gorgeous. ❤️
@agusmedan9617: That's what I told her!🌺
Oh btw the Central park mall in Jakarta is one of my favorites in Asia
I respect that you come alone to Jakarta, which is very large and spacious among the capitals of Asean, Jakarta, the city that never sleeps.
It seems that cities in Indonesia have a lot of trees.. Good to see some greenery ✅
Comes here! :D :D :D
Today Jakarta all around me. Watching @JetlegWarrior and now you entered in the arena. Enjoying both of your way of presenting Indonesia to the world. I agree with you there are less foreign tourist in Jakarta although Indonesia has a strong history and amazing places. Wish you all the best 👍🏼
Wow! You are in another side of the world! Jakarta looks very beautiful and exploring this city, this country, its different culture, its people must be truly amazing and above all interesting and you will certainly enjoy your journey in Indonesia, a land to be discovered. @@AlinaMcleod Do you not interesting for ff?!!
If you are still in Jakarta, visit the Sarinah mall which is the first mall in Indonesia, inside the mall there are many sellers of Indonesian souvenirs and food. If you want to enjoy the afternoon, come to PIK there is a culinary place and a good place facing the sea. If you want to see Chinatown in Jakarta, come to Glodok 🙏
That’s dope how you ran into an un expected art museum where people are skating! So random soooo dope!
Right??
Lol am i the only one thinking they were learning to walk not skating....
Indonesia's very strong in the history & cultures. As indonesian i am proud because there are foreigner who understand what the indonesian are on❤❤

Thank you for showing my home town, I was born in Jakarta, but i'm in Montreal now since 1995.
I've been to Bali, Lombok, Sumbawa and Sumatra. Bali is my favorite. My last trip, I hung around West Bali for about 1 month. It's on the Muslim side, very chill and not packed with Tourists.
I think They're NOT real balinese.
Selamat.datang.di.indonesia.gmn.semoga.betah.lama.aja..salam.
Selamat menikmati keindahan alam Indonesia 🇮🇩❤❤
Komen guna bhasa inggeris bodoh🤣🤣🤣
Here some tips :
1. i suggest you learn basic word/conversation in indonesian language, and you can ask people to help you here.
2. always prepare yourself with tissue, because not all public toilet have them.
3. always ask/tell your spicyness level of your food before you order on low-mid restaurant / street food. because mostly of them normaly serve food with spicy.
4. about dress, we consider long pants was formal dress for public routine and indonesian woman aware about sun tan, they dont like skin being tanned.
5. some people will ask you for photo/selfie, it just normal, they want to be friendly with you.
6. some people will ask you for name, where you came from, your age, married or not, your job etc, sound like intrograting, don't be blame them, its normal here, they using that topic just for chitchat, they want to start friendly talk from that topic, although they will forget it later. hahaha :D
7. about people staring you, yes you are right, more remote area more are starring you, dont be insult by them, it just because they stunning by your beauty. just stay chill. :D
i hope you enjoying your travel in indonesia, take more time to explore every place you have to visit, and again indonesia is full of surprice experience (in positif way), ^_^
Very helpful and useful informatives as well for foreigner..good job Bro!
I'm sorry to hear that. I believe our ppl have no bad mean when they're glancing at you. Our ppl here just simply wonder whenever they see foreigners since there aren't many foreigners here like in bali. They will start smiling and saying "hii" if you say something to them. I can tell you're being very respectful toward us and i really appreciate that 🙏. Anyway, you can always ask for a knife in any restaurant that you visit. It's just not a common costum using knife here but you can always ask for a knife in wherever place you go
This trip was awesome ! I liked the way you you presented the things in this vid. Great camerawork. Didn't know Jakarta was cool. Have a great time ✌
Thank you! It's definitely a unique city
Big likes Alina!!! I'm thinking about going there pretty soon! It's good to see your take on Jakarta 😃
Hope you have a fun time!

Yep, I've been stared at too in foreign lands Alina and having fire red hair didnt help any either. You look very happy there and I'm glad that so far its been worth the miles it took to get there! 💙💙
Out of context but from i was a child i adore natural red hair and after teen i see lot of red hair people in the western country. So you have a beautiful hair, no need to embarrassed for that sist
haha yes that gorgeous hair would definitely stand out!
very nice trip and beautiful to see. greetings from Indonesia ❤
I don't know, but most around the world consider avocado as a vegetable, but in Indonesia it is considered a fruit and even has juice 😁
Been there all Indonesia before covid ,Jakatar is a mad traffic city, I love borobodur & water palace &prambanan in yogya, also Bali which rich cultural lush green atmosphere city. Look forward for ur series then.
Welcome to Jakarta, Indonesia. Hope you are having a great time and enjoying the holidays.
Thanks! 😃
Hello Alina, I love Jakarta the 1st Asian country that I visited and worked with my band. I have many friends there if you need any help or a guide let me know. I worked in Hotel Mulia in Senayan in a club called CJ's if you get a chance visit Hotel Mulia they have nice restaurants and it's a nice place. I'm in Dubai now on tour but I'll go to Thailand next year then Jakarta maybe.
Thx so much Remix Nation 627.... Yes indeed..CJ's Bar at Mulia Hotel Jakarta is cool..I was there few years ago.
Owh, definitely u have to visit pantjoran PIK / pancoran PIK by online taxi, it's new china town of Jkt
How amazing you are have a knowledge of Indonesia, I'm so proud as Indonesian.
That elevated tunnel going across the street that was in the form of square frames arranged as a spiral was interesting.
You may have to visit the caves Japanese hid in and the one where they found Java Man! I think Java Man was the missing link between Australopithecus and the Neanderthal or something. And I am pretty sure there was some intense WW2 action in Indonesia, the Battle of the Java Sea was just off the coast. In recent times there have been problems with diving scrappers looting the US, Australian, and Dutch ships sunk there, they are protected as war graves, but the bronze propellers off USS Houston disappeared along with an entire Dutch ship
Awesome video, Alina! 👍😊🇨🇦🇺🇸
Welcome to Jakarta, Alina!!!!!
Ajakin vlog bareng bang
Thanks guys! :)
I'm addicted to this channel! Your videos are amazing and really cheer me up.

This is one of the most helpful and well done vids I've seen on solo travel in Jakarta, I just ran across it while doing initial research on going there. Well done, will be watching more of your posts.
the new main attarction for tourism in Jakarta now is PIK 2 on the north side of Jakarta i think, I recommend u to visit there place.
Hi Alina, welcome to Indonesia, I hope you can enjoy the atmosphere in Jakarta and always be happy
Awesome video! Thanks for uploading it especially since you haven't been feeling well. The rollerskating art gallery looks like it was a blast!
I lived in Indonesia for more than 10 years, and I can't stop loving Indonesia more than the country I come from
I can understand that ! Also lived there for 10 yrs, back in the 90s ✌

Wonderful video on Jakarta! It is good to visit some of the big cities of a country, and get a taste of their inner workings, history and commerce. Then head out to the more afield locations. Thanks for introducing us to Jakarta! ❤️
Much love Alina, always a welcome sight on tour, fun to see a mature woman offer an insight into far away destinations,I watch for the quality presentation and content, thanks Alina much love ✌️❤️🇬🇧
I LOVE your video about my hometown 🇮🇩. Thank you!
Great video Alina as usual. A very interesting city and quite huge too. Thank you and looking forward to your next video.
Don't forget to visit the island of Bali, Miss Alina, and you will definitely be amazed by one of the islands of paradise, and the many beautiful world tourist attractions of course 😊🙏
Hope you are well Alina. Harriet and I have been to Jakarta to visit my brother . Some of the places you went to we've been to such as the Moja Art Gallery and into the Financial District and Old town Dutch town Historic District. My brother lives just outside of Jakarta in a District called The Golden Triangle. We enjoyed the food and drink there. Incidentally , most Indonesians eat with
their hands at home. But at a restaurant they will use utensils with no knives. Much of the food eaten is considered finger food. No knive necessary. Harriet and I think the reason you don't see as many tourists there is Bali is the big draw and some of the strict protocols the west feels uncomfortable with. We didn't mind it at all. Alina, Have a Wonderful Time there. Feel Better, Be Well,
and most of all Stay Safe. Sending you lots of love💖💖💖 Harriet and Jim. Richmond, Va.

Very interesting. Thank you!
Excellent video of exploring Jakarta! You have definitely captured the heart of Jakarta best for tourist. We all will be waiting for your next video.

Go to south Jakarta, especially kemang (you might find a lot of foreign tourists) pondok indah and gandaria. To the north there is taman impian jaya ancol, and also new satellite city called pantai indah kapuk (reclamation island) there's alot kind of food over there.

Hi Alina, welcome to Jakarta! I hope you enjoyed Jakarta City. I loved seeing your video. I'm glad that I found your channel today.
Hello Alina, welcome to Indonesia! In here, we provide spoon and fork since the main food of Indonesian people is rice. That's why most of local restaurants provide spoon instead of knife.
Beautiful and strighly Vlog of Jakarta . Thankfully 😍
Thank you for sharing this video about Jakarta, my hometown. I am not surprise many people staring at you.....
A very beautiful video Alina, thanks for sharing
Hi Alina, very glad to see you exploring Indonesia. One thing I really appreciate you is that you put Jakarta as your first city to explore given that many tourists seem not to attractively visit the capital. Oh yeah I think you must try MRT
I am very impressed with your vlog, the way of speaking words and displaying pictures is so special, success for you we are waiting for your next visit because we are a very large country you can visit
Really like your vlog! Keep up the good work 👌🏾👌🏾

Hello Alina, you really went to the museum Nasional, and the art exhibition is amazed me, I'm from Jakarta but never heard of it before. And I think you're interested in history, It reminds me of Nick K, youtuber from Texas. It's cool!

Thanks for coming to our country and enjoy your holidays
Welcome to Jakarta Alina. Have a nice days
Hi Alina, spoon and fork are utensils that we use mainly almost in every corner here in Indonesia if you go to a local restaurant, even for some western fast food brands, apart of course from restaurants that serve western food. If you wonder how do we slice a meat let say, is by using spoon.
_10:13_ *if you could deny the traffic, actually Jakarta is a nice place. many CZcamsrs said it's a combination of NYC (for the skyscrapers), Tokyo (for the artistic night lights), and Sao Paulo (for the multi-diversity)* 😃
Enjoy Jakarta, Alina 😉
Its a shithole, nice try tho
Plus Dhaka for the Slums
@@mathlover4994 So, you are living in paradise?
I woke up at 1 am and couldn't sleep anymore. Then see you here (youtube), interesting video. Welcome to Indonesia and hope you enjoy 😊🙏
Beautiful cityscape.. great tour my friend 👍👍😘 love from tokyo
17:52 Spoon is typically used for any type of rice dishes, it's the common way of eating. Even with fried chicken, people will normally use either fork + spoon or their hands to rip the flesh.. or both in conjunction. You'd be surprised to learn this but this is the normal custom for Indonesian here (as an Indonesian myself). I believe the eating culture of using spoon + fork was brought by the Dutch.
Also, I think many modern restaurants might serve knives but try ask for one next time you visit another restaurant. Chance is small if you go to local restaurant instead ("rumah makan", "warung" etc.).
Very nice video Alina 👍 you can visit Sarinah Mall in Central of Jakarta for seeing things from different cultures in Indonesia.
I love your approach and presentation. I didn't plan to watch the entire video, but here I am in the comments area 20 minutes after. Welcome to Indonesia!
I love your tour Alina. I wish I could also travel to many places like you. Enjoy life!
If it's 12 noon, it's definitely quiet in GBK, it's busy on holidays, afternoons and mornings, if it's 12 noon, Jakartans work.

Awesome video Alina 😊👍👍
I made a roudtrip east of Bali many moons ago, very authentic, non-tourist
Hi welcome to Jakarta, hope you will enjoy your stay here. Jakarta is not really a tourist destination city compared to other city in Southeast Asia like Bangkok for examples. So you won't see much tourist around and things can feel bit out of place and confusing sometimes because lack of information of what to see and how to get there. But local government are fixing it I'm sure, improving the area and rebranding it with the hope it could become more hospitable or tourist friendly. Compared to few years ago, Jakarta is actually a nicer place now specially in the downtown area. If you have enough time you could visit a beautiful thousand islands not far away from Jakarta's shore. A nice beach retreat before you going to Bali or other area.
Regarding avocado Juice, most Indonesian only know Avocado as fruit that used in juices and dessert, compared to western world specially US or Canada who are get used with avocado in savory dish due to Mexican's cuisine influence like Guacamole. So just like how you surprised finding Avocado in the sweeter side, my mother also have the same reaction when I introduced her to savory dish using avocado. A real cultural exchange 😃.
Yes I noticed that as well in Mexico!
Hi SpellOnYou, but the lack of tourists compared to Bangkok can actually be a good thing in one way as you get a more authentic feel for the host country.
