I don't think you fully get it. It's not about her not being good enough on her own. Everyone deserves to find someone else after their partner has passed away. Meredith deserves to fall in love again. This doesn't replace her chemistry and deep love with Derek. To be honest, now that I am rewatching Grey's Anatomy, Derek screwed up in his marriage with Addison the same way as with Meredith - he chose work first. Although we should give him points for trying to correct this in his marriage to Meredith. Derek wasn't perfect. He treated Meredith like crap for the first season. I still think he's McDreamy. I just believe that Meredith is entitled to be with someone else who makes her happy.

But so much of it feels forced and not natural and personally I think it’s too soon after the love of her life. The episodes where she grapples with whether or not she can move on is fantastic because it’s real. But it just feels so forced a lot of the time.

I totally agree and never thought for one moment she needed a man, a strong female protagonist is enough. And I never thought that the chemistry she had with Dempsey could or should be duplicated, but that transplant doctor who had a kidney transplant himself; DANG, they had chemistry! HIM I would give a chance, but not as a male lead, just to see more meredith smiles; I love seeing her smile!

The rumors of dempsey having a affair with a intern on set were shut down by his spokes person so I do not believe they are true however I do think him and ellen fell in love, Jillian noticed it and made him choose so he chose his family
I cannot believe that someone started those rumours. My conclusion from Patrick's interviews is that he was working up to 16hrs a day, leaving his family behind. An important event that happened was that Dempsey also lost his mother back in i think March 2014 so maybe as a form of grief he just dived to work, but it didn't work out for his marriage. He is also a racer, which is his passion, so i think Grey's was just keeping him from focusing on the things he loved most.

I totally agree with this. Meredith and Derek were the perfect couple and I think that Derek cannot be replaced because he played such a huge part in Meredith's life and in the show. However, I do think that the show can continue on without him and Meredith doesn't need someone to replace Derek. It's good that she is moving on but it seemed like she moved on really fast and she was finding another love interest within like 30 seconds of Derek's death. She doesn't need a man. I'm not saying that Meredith shouldn't ever find love again but I am saying that she doesn't have to replace Derek because that's impossible.
I agree with the first part, but dude she did not try to move on that fast. It took well over a year for her to even consider anything and even then she was pushed into it by others and decided against it eventually

I luv Derek as much as the next person but I can't seem to look past and act like he didn't have flaws. He did a lot of stuff that put me on edge about his character he wasn't perfect but u know I luv him anyways and he didn't have to die. But it's a realistic thing. My dad died so it is quite relateable I suppose.
Toya Lawton well, everyone knows Derek wasn't perfect. I think that might be the most attractive thing about him... how he can be so perfect and yet have flaws. The problem is that people just look at his flaws and forget his multiple qualities. Every character on Grey's has flaws. They're a representation of real human beings. And yeah I miss Derek constantly.

greyspostit oh no it's ok. That's true. When I first watched it I saw how he was perfect maybe his hair and smile lol. Than I watched it again and saw his flaws. But the third time around I loved him for his flaws and non flaws because life happens. I think it should be addressed that he was mcdreamy but what made him mcdreamy wasn't his looks and everything else but also his flaws and the fact he had feelings about them. But at times he was really a jerk. I suppose he was like people I deal today and I do appreciate that from Grey's and sometimes I need something to escape reality as well. Something that may not happen in real life ya know.

I cant even count the times I wanted to strangle Derek. That said there is a part of me that loved him and that hates seeing Meredith with anyone else. Greys anatomy success was built on love stories. Thats what most people are interested in when they watch a drama. So basically a new love interest means more people watching the show. To the writers it’s just business.

Mariana Patrick Dempsey was ready to move on and do something different mostly racing and working in the cancer foundation he set up in honor of his mother and to spen more time with his family, they work while filming 16 to 18 hours a day it gets to you after a while his kids are getting older and he wanted to spend more time home
She always resented him being paid more and being unwilling to join her in negotiations to change that.

Its been almost 16 years since the show started and she's had kids. Not every celebrity ages well after almost 20 years.
What a dumb question. I totally understand that women can be amazing actors and support a show on their own, but adding male characters has nothing to do with being “archaic”. Male actors are a part of the show because the whole damn show is about relationships and sex, meaning this show wouldn’t be the same without men, just like it wouldn’t be the same without women.
Am I the only one who feels Ellen missed the point of the question. Although an ensemble cast, the show is told from Meredith pov. Losing Meredith from Grey's would be catasrophic. Losing McDreamy, the show goes on. Patrick Dempsey is not replaceable. But a new love interest for her character works. Just imho.

Chris Ducat actually, it totally does. Ellen knows more than we do since this is her life. As she said in another interview that the network didn't think they could make it without Patrick even though technically she was the lead actress and Grey's Anaromy's face. They literally said they couldn't make it only with her - to her face. And after Patrick was gone (according to Ellen) they rushed in another male character to have a relationship with her because Meredith being single was something impossible for them... And it's been like that since s11 - man after man. So, it totally does have eveything to do with replacing Patrick and dismissing Ellen's capacity of carrying a show on her own. So yeah, it does have to do with feminine empowerment. Even more since that goes agaist a request from their lead actress and Grey's Anaromy's face for over 13 years (Ellen Pompeo herself).

In a interview she gave to Jimmy Kimmel she said the network literally told her they couldn't make it without Patrick and that they didnt need her... and after Patrick was gone they were desperately trying to replace him - which is impossible. It is about feminism because there are plenty of male lead character that don't have love interests and no one cares, but yet they try to intriduce a new kive ingerest for Meredith every Thursday.
