Everyone wants to drag race. Make a two mile course in the desert and time the trucks. Add a pressure measurement device on top of the seat and the driver's bottom and see how much force the truck is pounding the spine and single race to see who has the best time the Raptor R or the TRX
Ben hardy did with the ecoboost raptor and it was faster than the trx.
Exactly. This drag race shit is ignorant. I want real world usability tests based on its purpose.
To be honest, 0 - 60 is irrelevant for this type truck. Definitely need an off road course. I agree that truck testing blogs do not test for what the truck is designed for. Typically, blogs do mud, rock crawling, and spinning donuts in the dirt.
A regular gen2 or gen3 raptor will already beat a TRX in actual offroad courses, the TRX outruns it’s suspension real quick & is quite nose heavy. What we need to see is a race @ the drag strip, the outcome offroad is already pre-determined unless Ram plans on upping the ante in the suspension/fire dept while also shedding lbs & adding true 4wd 😬
@@MS-mr4zm So if this is the case, why call the TRX the new King when it can't even beat the V6 Raptor Off-Road ? The literal purpose of the Raptor is Off-Road racing, not drag racing at all, so as soon as people complain and say the TRX beats it on a drag strip it's already lost, it's not an Off-Road truck than anymore or can ever be if all people praise it for is it's power and drag strip capabilities, which is exactly what i have been saying to anyone crediting the TRX to be better than the Raptor as an Off-road truck it's bs. The TRX sucks at it's own job.
With the 110K starting price, a dealer markup, and 5% interest on the loan, you'd end up paying 200K for this. That is STUPID money for a truck.
It is totally ridiculous
What dealer is only charging 5%?
@@maverick-zj3jz you can get 0% financing sometimes on new vehicles when they run specials but below 5% is not uncommon at all if you have decent credit. Doesn't even have to be great.
Don't pay a crazy dealer markup. If you pay 200k for this truck you deserve to be ass reeemed
@@maverick-zj3jz estimate on interest, not dealer markup.
The Raptor R looks great and I would love to have one. My 2 issues are stealerships jacking up the prices way over MSRP and Ford doing nothing about it, and we are in the worst recession since the 1970s. The starting price of $109K is ridiculous. I can buy a 2022 TRX for $92K which is way over the TRX MSRP which will end up being $40K less than the Raptor R after dealer markups (greed). Why can't we order direct from the mfr? All you need the dealer for is maintenance for the 800 recalls.
My local dealership here in Colorado won’t go above MSRP and may even sell for less than MSRP if you want to talk to them. Ironically, they sell both Ford and Dodge as well as Jeep. I just ordered a 392 Rubicon yesterday and am think about ordering a TRX Ram as well. I had previously said before that the only way I would ever buy a Raptor would be if it had a V-8 again and I won’t rule that out but I still think the TRX is a better truck and it will share like parts with my 2023 Jeep 392 JLUR.
There wont be dealerships to get stuff done on your truck if you cut em out of selling bud. Have fun getting your vehicle serviced at corporate Ford lol
@@j.r.777 that's good to hear JR. Congrats on that 392.
@@bigbarrettbob I get your point but if dealers want $30K or more above MSRP and no one wants to pay that, and some will pay that, but we will pretend no one would for the sake of argument, then they would put themselves out of business. I would fly to another state and buy a vehicle at MSRP versus over
@@j.r.777 what is the name of the dealer?
Andre you are the best at these videos you ask all the questions but also the ones that not many ppl think about.
I remember when I was in high school, this kid I knew had a (at the time) brand new 2011 Raptor. He always beat the shit out of it. Drove it at the river all the time and it always took it. Never had any problems that I knew of. These will always be my dream trucks. Any gen with any engine I love them all. I even got a 2014 F250 with the 6.2 to kinda inmate the 1st gen raptors lol. Just really heavy.
Just a tip for you TFL guys doing the camera/sound/production work, please PLEASE take engine exhaust sound recordings a few feet back from the exh tips. You get a much better representation of what the exhaust sounds like VS up close where it's just muffled distortion of the deep bass tones coming thru on playback. Thanks! Keep the great content coming, us gearheads love it
❤
That Ford dude is no joke. A serious engineer that knows his shit. Thanks for the great vid. Another awesome ford product.
Wow, what a phenomenal piece of engineering and as a Bears fan an even better color scheme!
Outstanding video! I always come to ya guys for the new intel.
The way the engineer is standing in that cover photo is EVERYTHING you need to know about ford😂
I went back to look at the cover picture and yeah you're right...lol

Bought a 2010 Raptor with 6.3L. Paid $48,000 for it. Kept it 9 years and 22,000 mi. Sold it for $38,000.
Best truck I ever owned. Loved all of it.
I will be getting one of the new V8 models.
Love the deep dive. Thank you
I think the gen 2 front end in a supercab is the best looking truck
2nd gen will forever be the best looking raptor!
I agree. If I could find one with low miles for a good price id buy it

Thank you Andre for keeping Roman and Junior at home so I could watch the review.
My 2106 C7 had these same mode configuration abilities. Glad to see the Raptor is finally getting basic performance options 6 years later and at a cost of over 100k...
Ford has been putting modes in the truck since 2010?
@@zachdavis5394 Yes, but not to this level of configuration. The mode was locked to a standard config, could not change things like exhaust mode / wheel mode within each mode. The ability to mix and match. That's what I'm referring to.
Looks amazing,37 package base even better......thank you ford!!!!!😎
Dear Ford,
If you were going to show up to this party two years late, why did you also show up with less in hand than Ram?
-Curious Truck Guys
Yes two last horsepower 400 lb less weight If you watch the video he said they want to be faster off-road not on road. If they did that they would have to go to a smaller tire size and retune the truck. This truck is designed for going fast off-road.
The trx bever beat the raptor inits actual pirpose, off road racing in tracks
The engineer is 100% right on about building the truck to win in the desert! I could care less about 'winning' against the TRX in HP numbers, 0-60 or 1/4 mile on pavement. Keeping that weight down, keeping the truck well balanced front/rear, keeping the handling predictable is what it's all about if you plan on using if for more than just racing to the Starbucks drive through that you might not fit in. :D
It's such a shame how truck guys often talk in pejoratives about any other owner or potential buyer with other tastes.
So some guys want the raptor to have better 1/4 mile times; that doesn't at all mean that they're "racing to Starbucks".
It's fine for folks to want what they want.
Great stuff Andrea. Really your discussion with the ford engineer. Now I need to go find a second job so I can buy one. Haha
Can’t wait to see this thing at Safeway
I would love that interior on the regular Raptor.
Best RaptorR video yet! I did get my order in today!
Congratulations to you! My order will be in by December!
Congrats....and the pmts start in January......😬

'Bout time! That V6 was always a let down especially when the owner had to actually hit the gas. Big shout out to RAM for making Ford finally produce this 🤪
And a big shout out to the Ford Raptor for making Dodge make the TRX. 😄😄
Now all you have to do is pay for it 💵💵💵💵💵💵💵💵💵💵💵💵💵💵💵💵💵💵
The v6 is awesome!
The trx is the first truck you can called a super truck from production, a whole different ball game. That why ford made the R🍕, if not ford would’ve kept the ecoboost or the normally aspirated coyote. Their both amazing truck i want both, but shoutout to ram for changing the game and ford now by competing. 🇺🇸
Now we have to pressure gm into making a Baja truck.
Awesome truck!!!! Ford nailed this thing. So many comments about the price of fuel and this things likely poor fuel economy. Do these people really think someone who’s buying a $110,000+ truck cares about fuel / fuel prices??? Hahaha get with it folks!
I can buy this and I still care. Porridge fuel and range. It's just dumb at this point. Same reason I wouldn't buy the GT500. No I'm not poor lol
Power is not going to improve its handling and roadholding
Agree, to those who are ranting about the fuel consumption of the V8, it wasn't made for you. It was designed and made to the ones who can afford to maintain it and doesn't complain on refueling it most of the time.
@@robertryan7204 do you think it’s not good in those areas? I thought it was just me and when I suggested it Raptor folks attacked 😅
@@cl3410 Not many in Australia in fact not many current F150's at all
Glad they are coming back with that light gray color too
Yea with that light gray color it will look like an auto part delivery truck
Nice. Now FoMoCo should use the 2.3 liter high performance EcoBoost package in the Ranger. No big changes, just tweaking and tuning for a 330 hp engine.
Um no lol.
I like that the FORD representatives are not high on their horse sort of speak they are Honest/ Humble .I would expect them to be more of a ( salesman attitude) but they tell it like it is like when he said"645 horse power he didnt say oh its 700 hp 👍☺
Yes they are down to earth cool people and love to talk about Ford performance products. I hung out with the Ford Raptor race team at Parker races back in 2017., at their rented house, at a local desert bar for beers and the race track. They were all normal dudes with a passion for performance trucks and enjoyed answering all questions. That little adventure got me by while I endured my 8 month wait on Raptor delivery :)
Dang it z!!! All this time I’ve been waiting for this baby . Now it’s out of my price range
I think the people that keep asking for the V8 would have been fine with a 5.0 tuned in between the current truck and Mustang to 440hp back in the SuperCab configuration. Heck I think most buyers would like a more basic shock package if it meant Ford could bring the entry point back to $55k. Then make a Baja package with the live valve shocks and whatnot as a 10k option. Then the full tilt Supercab could be $65k and the SuperCrew $70k, which is where I think current Raptor pricing is. There is certainly room for the Raptor R but I think there is more demand for a more entry level truck like the Gen 1, which I think started at $48k when launched.
Keep dreaming nobody getting this for under 150k probably closer to 200k
Facts.. raptor with a 5.0 at same price point as the V6 would have been selling like hotcakes this entire time.
Even a Tremor with a 5.0 option I think would have been more than enough for most. The base Tremor is $55k and the 5.0 is a $1200 cheaper option than the 3.5L. If you could have just optioned that into one or something. Make a Raptor and a Raptor R package for the Tremor. I think it's a nice truck but some of the pricing is just getting out there.
@@S8ER the ones they've made have sold fine. They make a limited number of them and don't have any issue selling every last one of them so the amount they sell isn't a concern to them because they don't got an issue selling every one of the limited number they make.
@@midnight347 yeah.. I mean ford wouldn’t have sold V6s if they didn’t sell and they didn’t profit like crazy off of them. That’s true.
Ford should get the ( Roush ) company to do the ( exhaust system ) for all Raptor R s . 😎👍
Had 2017 Roush Supercharged F150 and currently have Roush Raptor. Both trucks with Roush Exhaust. Its rebranded Borla Atak. Thats all.
supercharged v8 wow. really nice in Colorado.
That dark blue dose it no justice at all.

Anyone notice that the alternator is really low on the engine.
Not a big deal but looks like a pain to change and if you like to go through deep mud it makes vulnerable.
I've lost a few alternators from mud and water . Trail fix
Also look at the horizontal oil filter.
That's going to make a mess or hopefully it drains all the way out
8:21 hell yeah doesn’t sound like a gd lawn mower with supper 44
shame they don't do that one in right hand drive for the uk market, we only get the baby version with a 3 litre V6 which is still pretty cool but this thing is a beast...
We all know that they brought out the R because of the TRX. Competition is good for the market!
Guess you didn't watch the whole video where he said they wanted to put that motor in the raptor since the second generation. They had to wait for the new chassis to do it The TRX is not a competitor
@@kubeanie18 of course they had to say that for PR purpose. I don’t doubt that they’ve been trying to put a V8 back in Raptor but i think the TRX def accelerated their process of making this to happen. Hopefully the competition is going to help in terms of pricing too. I bought my gen 2 for off-roading purpose but with all these ridiculous 6-figure prices in the current market i start to feel like i own a luxury car instead.
@@leonkool123 How can the TRX accelerate something that was already planned, seems to me like they took their time more than they rushed considering it was a year after the Gen 3 they brought out the R. If they actually were rushing they would have released this thing today while revealing it soon after the Gen 3 was already made and tested. The TRX had no real influence on this being made in the first place.
@@kubeanie18 really you take everything they say at face value, I can assure if TRX wasn’t on market, you’d have never seen a V8, raptor R is like an after thought

Better tell Chuck to launch the Bronco is sport mode w/4A and start in manual mode 2nd gear. Throw it into auto after he launches. He’ll still lose, but he’ll get a better start this way 😊
Let the race begin Rr vs Trx
I like it, but I don’t see any reason to give up my bulletproof Gen 1 Raptor. Sure, the interior is boring, but I still love everything about it.
Sometimes I regret trading my Gen 1 for the Gen 2…. Ford is about to lose one loyal Raptor customer, not because of the price, but for not cracking down on dealer mark ups, and dealer hoarding allocations. @ford
Don't really see the 30k up price on value vs the TRX.. Sorry might be to much to late especially now at these times..
Don't forget this is a fully loaded trim with as much options as a highest trim V6 Raptor can get.
Given the v6 already spanks the trx in a desert run? I'd imagine the price difference is for a good reason.
@@ec3886 Given the fact that the R won't tear itself apart unlike the TRX and can actually do the Baja 1000 out of the Factory and do anything the TRX can and better, the price seems very fair fully loaded too.

When adding moon roof tailgate package, it removes remote start and tailgate release. Would it still have remote start?
Great video Andre! That exhaust note is YESSSSS! 'MERICA!! Is it me or was neither Ford engineer too excited about their product?
No I was thinking the same, it’s like “ a small group of ford folks” forced them
Into this direction. They should have forced it to have like 710 HP but I think they dropped the ball on the bragging rights
I think people need to step back and think about who Andre was talking to. These are engineering people, not used car salesmen. They speak in numbers and metrics, not gee-wiz stuff and they don't typically get excited or out of control.
@@kinsmen1764 all this fuss over every last rated horsepower is silly. Who cares if it's 700 or 710 I mean come on. The only reason it's making 700 is because rpm was lowered to 7k and they optimized the power curve for truck usage. It has a better power to weight ratio than the trx and it will murder it in an actual offroad racing environment (what it was actually built for). This thing has potential to make some crazy power if one wants if people can actually tune them. May require a stand alone if they aren't tunable which would suck.
Cant wait to see one covered in American flag and skull stickers!
Lol
Thanks for the video Andre. I do enjoy your content on TFL. It’s clear that Ford instructed you not to compare to the TRX in this video, but I can’t help but to think that once Ram puts 37s on the TRX then they will sell a ton of trucks. The Raptor R will only be produced in limited numbers at a high MSRP plus dealer mark up and will push many more potential buyers to the Ram.
People really only buy the ram for the v8. Nothing else really. Off road, where the trucks are supposed to be, raptor takes the cake in almost all categories
@@tony_tiger3405 : Lets be real, how many of these trucks are even taken off-road? Most people don't live anywhere near a desert where they could go out & run them at high speed. Both trucks are too big & wide for many other trails/off-roading. If anyone would be likely to go off-roading it's Jeep Wrangler owners & even Jeep says that only 10% - 15% of Wrangler owners ever go off-road. The majority of 4WD vehicles are nothing but pavement princesses.

Is the next upgrade going to be a 1000- 1100HP Godzilla engine?
The fact that they had to make a special edition above the Raptor to compete with the TRX is hilarious.
Its actually genius, lets sell tons of v6 raptors then sell tons of v8 raptors. Pretty good buisness decision 👌 . Maybe next is a 7.3 supercharged version to sell more raptors! Nothing wrong with variety and choice . Maybe thats why the f150 is the best selling vehicle in the world

I wish they would a supercharged either the Godzilla motor or the old 6.2 and put some development dollars in that
Love how he said they made this from people asking for it in not so subtle ways. The ONLY reason this is being made is because of the TRX. No TRX = no Raptor R
No Raptor.....no TRX.....Ram V8=Raptor R......give and take there friend......
People have been asking for a V8 ever since the 2nd gen came out but Ford was busy trying to prove their EcoBoost technology. The TRX is just another reason. Either way, Ford was never worried about the nose dive king TRX. A V8 Raptor was inevitable.
What are you going to use it for?
Nothing wrong with that.
109k for a ford 🤣
This is awesome that ford finally did this to compete with the TRX. That being said at 32:16 the engineer sounds a little unsure of how many they will be able to build, which is unfortunate because that means insanely high dealer markeups and people who end up buying these never putting them to use so that value can 'appreciate'. Specs and performance aside, this is ultimately where the TRX will still beat the Raptor R and that's on the basis of availability.
The TRX never did compete with the Raptor for what it was built for. The Raptor R was not designed as a pavement crawling dragster.
Didn't you hear him say that they always wanted to put the 5.2 in the raptor and they had to wait until the third gen to do it. This truck was planned and developed long before the TRX came out not a competition

Now we'd like a V8 PHEV with Pro Power Onboard.
These are going to be highly allocated, dealers will not be able to order as many as they want. So due to the rareness, they will be bringing way over MSRP to the few that can buy one. Preorders are most likely have already filled up most of the original allocations. Dealerships are not nonprofit organizations, and I would bet that if those that are complaining about mark ups owned a dealership, you would be doing the same thing. Supply and demand. It is a great option for the few.
Is this coming to Australia or just for the US Market?
What is the raptor r using for a transfer case?
Ask him the real tough question, “Why are they only doing a limited run with this truck, when number 1 it was built as an answer to the TRX, and number 2 enthusiast have been screaming their asses off for a V8 Rapter since it’s demise after the first generation SVT Raptor.” It is completely unfair that the only people that are going to be able to afford this truck our a bunch of rich ass baby boomers Who probably will not take this truck out to the desert and turn around and resell it later. It’s infuriating that some of us have been waiting for a V8 raptor to make it’s reappearance only for it to have a limited run so dealers can get limited allocations and Jack the mark up’s to nearly double the cost of the truck… I’m a huge Ford fan boy, but all the moves they are making with their performance products are purely disappointing.
But is free market. Maybe later they will make longer runs adn more people can get it for less cash

True. You know doesn't seem a lot until you spend the money on it, buy the truck drive it for a couple weeks and then think about what the hell did I just spent 100k on for? I bought a 2017 chevy Silverado 3500 but at least I get to use it for what is was intended for. These 1500s are a waste of money.
The V6 and V8 Raptors were made to different markets/customers.
The average V6 Raptor driver can pretty much accomplish anything off road that the new V8 Raptor can do. Most the time you won't be comparing your V6 up against the V8 or a TRX So beyond the bragging rights of owning the V8, im not sure the justification to drop easily $130,000 + if not way more from dealerships, depending on which state you purchase one from seems a tad bit asinine. Let's not forget its existence was forced based purely on the birth of the TRX. Ford never wanted to go this route.
Side note the artist who came up with that side graphic needs to be fired. It looks Flintstone. Yabba Dabba Doo.
