As Ford unleashes the newest Raptor, many are concerned over its small displacement Twin Turbo V6 engine compared to its previous generation that offered a beefier N/A 6.2L V8. But we quickly discovered the great potential that the Ecoboost engine has, with just a few modifications! This is where Garrett Turbos comes in - watch us upgrade the factory turbos and intercooler, dyno it to see the power increase, and put the Raptor through the ultimate test.

good move dynoing the intercooler. most would not have taken the time
Thank you! We do it for the enthusiasts like you.
Yeah it was great seeing how much power these trucks gain with just that one change.
Too bad the cam phaser issue makes these unreliable in the long term.
@@boobacockaa I have a 2020, I am unaware of the cam phaser issue. Is that something that plagued them all?
Captain Awesome - yessir. Mine is a 2018, and my wife’s f150 is a 2019… both have it. Hers was fixed after 57,000 miles. Mine has ~20k miles and the phaser issue is just starting to get annoying. Seems to be in nearly all the 3.5L ecoboosts, most years get included into the tech bulletins, slowly but surely.
Very impressive gain with the intercooler alone.
That turbo appears to be damaged right out of the box!? Maybe I'm mistaken but at 6:34, the inlet has a large flat spot.
You should've seen the first set I received from Full-Race. The compressor blades had all kinds of cracks, holes, and imperfections I had to return them. The second set was WAY better...it's amazing Garrett's quality control would let garbage like that pass.
@@xxdemonshitxx I agree a 100%, like most manufacturers these days, they are choosing quantity over quality! Yet the price continues to rise.
Sharp eyes! looks damaged to me too. For what those cost you'd think Q.C. would be very strict.
Good god you got some sharp eyes there
@@fordfox5535 my wife would agree, but she would say it a far more negative manner. Lol. And probably throw in a few of those four letter words, and I don't mean Love or Best.
You a have a clean fox in signature thumbnail. I had to part with my 93. Sad day
I swapped in a 2020 Raptor Crate engine (1 of only 5 ) with a 10R80 into my '66 F100 Shortbed then added that Garrett cooler and it made 603/658 to tire but that was on E50 and my tire wheel combo is only 49 lbs. Truck is 3900 lbs so scoots pretty well. I think in the 3's to 60 if I can get it to hook.
Would like to know if there was a boost pressure increase or are these gains purely based on flow improvements?
I'm running stock turbos as well but with a 93 Goose Tune, clocking low 6's (0-60). Beautiful truck btw. I love the Gen 2's!
@goosetuned kills it with the tuning games. lol you don't need those turbos to get into the 6's
@@theArmedSuspect 6.0 is stock for a Raptor. I run 4.8 on e40 stock turbos and FMI only.
@@brucestevens884 exactly, these numbers weren’t impressive at all lol
Not gonna go off on a tangent, but my 21' Tremor stock is close to that if not a lil better, 33" tires lifted(leveled) Fox struts, just saying
Should be well into the 5's that's Almost as quick as a 2010 6.2 them tires 10lb more than the 35s are probably killing it
nice tuning !!!
This is a badass build 🔥
We agree! Thank you for watching!
You need to get a hold of GooseTuned. He is getting better numbers than that with the stock turbos. He is the man!
Theyre clearly not trying for extreme hp numbers. They basically just made it run well.
Excellent vid. Lots of good info.
Glad you liked it! Thank you for watching.
My 18 3.5 xlt is running a 5.8 0-60 on stock turbos with a 5 star tune on 35in ridge grapplers, something has to be off there
Awesome truck and love the upgrades! I've been debating Raptor vs F250 as my next truck and this is helping me decide...
Well if you want fun but not major towing raptor but if you want tow f250
Whichever you decide, we are here to assist your build!
@@vivid_racing Will Do!! I'll reach out after I get one.
I'm FEELING LUCKY !
Sweet video, Dan!
Thank you, Roman! I appreciate your support.
Been waiting for this vid! 😎
We got you! Stay tuned for a part 2, and some more Raptor madness!
Typical of all companies, smash shit at the factory and box it up, not going to affect performance but that dent in the inlet bell would bug me bad. Cool build btw.
Shit ..you are the only other one that noticed that quality work..
I saw that too. I bet they returned it.
@@johnathansmith9059 I also saw it. In fact I looked through the cmments wondering if I was the only one that saw that. That really sucks.
Looks like the content upload(unboxing on camera) was more important than quality control
It’s pretty crazy, but I bought these Garret turbos also, and when mine arrived, the female plug on the Westgate actuator was snapped completely off straight from the box. When you’re spending almost 4 grand on a set of turbo, kinda expected to be perfect, right? They also forgot to send my $800 install kit that I purchased and ended up waiting in additional two weeks. Doing all the work by myself I had it all planned out and this threw a serious wrench into my plans, but what do they care? Lol
You should race the TFL Ram TRX with this.
Sounds like a gear swap is in order…4.56 . usually the ecoboost has a pretty flat torque curve all the way through the rpm’s
Very cool video !
I know your shop sells nice parts, high end pieces.
You've been around for awhile. Thought you were just a parts shop here in AZ . I'm building a Ecobeast work truck ..lol
Love the V6 Turbo! Just bought it 22 Ecobeast 4x4
B.O.V. , K&N CAI , 4" EXHAUST, MISHIMOTO HARD PIPES AND BIG INTERCOOLER. JB4 Coming, Big down pipe needed...

Stock 2018 4x4 5 srar tuning, intercooler,and downpipe's 3.8 to 4.0 seconds fastest time.
Have you guys thought about changing the torque converter?
Those monster Garret turbos!
The best in the game. Thanks for watching!
This editing dude wtf. Subbed
Like the truck and the mods mustang dynos I heard suck , also can we get a full pull??
by doing that, You don't worry about the O2 sensor the cat convertor would have been overwhelmed??? high emmision output may effect pass or fail the smog check????
This is awesome can it be installed on a F150 Lariat with the 3.5 ecco 2019 ??
The stock fuel system is big enough to compensate for all the added power?
I think regearing to a bit lower gear size to compensate for the 20% tire loss would be helpful. After all, you can’t cheat physics. Ford designed that truck to run the factory tire size it was given, not 37s. Pretty cool build guys!
The truck can come stock from Ford with 37s and I know that includes a different suspension system, and I’ve heard slightly different gearing
@@NorthernBuffalo the 2022 3rd Gen Raptor does come with 37s as an option. The Raptor featured in this video is a 2nd Gen which doesn’t come with 37s from the factory.
@@socaltrailtrekkers1965 you are absolutely correct and I misread the title. Appreciate the civility in correcting me
Did you request a replacement inlet for the turbo that was damaged?
I have a 2019 Raptor wirh an s&b intake, cobb Intercooler, and 91 octane tune with stock turbos and run a 5.3 second 0-60
Gear Head made 592 whp with those turbos and intercooler on stock fuel system. i was stoked
Awesome!
That truck is a Beasttttt!!
Garret doesn't mess around. Thank you for watching!
Curious how the bottom end will hold up at that power level
Expected more , how much was spent ton this project ?
intercooler installation tips?
TFL Truck used a Pro Charger supercharger on a stock Ford Superduty with a tune and got 5 second 0-60
I live at 8000 feet probably well down on Power how much can I get and still keeping it reliable? Add an intercooler?
I'd like to know your $ to HP gain. I'm sure those mods aren't cheep and maybe there are better option for a similar or better gain per $
I bet the stock wheels help this time
Something to think about on my next Expedition.
Definitely a fun project!
i see F150 & Garret Turbos = Subbed4Life
We love bigger turbos 🔥
We love them too! Thank you for watching!
@@vivid_racing watching from Las Vegas , big love from the cre8tivegarage team
I never liked the gen 2 raptor. But the perfect combo of yellow led headlights and molten orange color makes me really love it!
We appreciate this!
Would be awesome to see what it can do with an E85 tune
E85 can be too much, you start to sacrifice reliability due to the effective compression increases….you can lift a head if you push forward max power tuning on e85 without dropping the compression some adding more room for fuel on each powerstroke.
So I have a bully dog tune on my 3.5l eco boost can someone explain to me why my stock eco pulls 6.0s 0-60 and 11.6s on 1/4 mile I don’t believe these numbers
This is an amazing build. Love this truck
Thank you! We love this truck as well!
I wanna put those turbos on my 2019 Ford Explorer Sport EcoBoost
Just curious, I'd like to know what all those bolt ons did to mileage? I put in 80 miles round trip commuting and just clearing 20 mpg stock
Thanks for the feedback Steve! Maybe we'll add that into the next video 👀
Somethings wrong with that truck. Maybe that turbo that was obviously dropped is binding??? My raptor on E85 and goosetuned goes 0-60 in half that time on stock turbos… that’s more than tire weight and gear ratio in my opinion. Was really hoping to see something justifying the bigger turbos.. this video is disappointing at best.
Nothing wrong with the truck, dyno gains show the power. Just hard to get good numbers unless you know how to launch.
Word. Problem is, they went stock to tuned with turbos.
Should’ve done stock, tune only then turbos
Like normal people would as most by now are already tuned.
That would be more realistic numbers on gains then.
@@Zunigamotorsports2012 Actually the truck was tuned. So we went tuned to tuned with turbos and intercooler.
I’d want to see data logs on the street. Just because it makes power on the rollers doesn’t mean it doesn’t have massive corrections killing power on the street. It also didn’t make impressive power compared to 500+ whp stock turbos on e85. Launching is as easy as: sport mode, 4x4 auto, brake torque up to 2500+ rpm, and go.
@@derekkvenvold1145 Best comment so far! Will get those logs with our HP Tuners and try launches like that when not wet! Expect data and a post on our blog www.vividracing.com/blog along with a follow up video.
Were those turbo inlets bent?
Who dropped that drivers side upgraded turbo?
How much will cost all this hp upgrade?
This giveaway is a chance for more parts plus vivid the way to go 💯💯
You know it! Thanks for watching, and good luck!
I’m getting better numbers on my stock turbos with a 92 and 93 tune. Granted, on my ‘18 with stock size tires and wheels, I have an
- SVC front mount
-BBK throttle body
-AFE cold air dual filter
-SPD down pipes
-SPD turbo adapters
-AWE exhaust
-5 Star Tune w/NGauge.
I’m curious what #’s I would get with those Garrett’s on there. 🤔
Hey Donny,
Thanks for reaching out! This truck is tuned VERY conservatively as it is still on stock down pipes / turbo adapters , throttle body and charge tubes.
It's Easy to get more power. But to get more power without forfeiting reliability is hard. That's the reason purpose built track cars only see 2 to 3 days of use out of a motor. And there are plenty of videos where they blow an engine in the first run, but hey they made 3000 horsepower even if it was for only 3 seconds XD.
@@kleodemontes1997 I haven’t forfeited any reliability. All of my numbers are running safe and nowhere close to damaging to my engine. I have over 40k miles on these times and never had any issues.
*tunes
What numbers are you getting if I may ask?
nice job on the the tuning and vid, I myself prefer the gen 1s nothing beats the 6.2 sound
I see your avitar there. May I ask why you bought a Tacoma if you like the sound of a V8?
@@gsxr1189 I have more than just one vehicle 11 to be exact. I just happened to pick the Taco .
The speed is governed to 98mph?
Can i put this on a regular f150 eco
Awesome sauce
Wonder what the ring gap is on that engine open that up and let it eat
you guys should look into methanol injection for the temps and it would bump your OCT rating
Thanks for the recommendation!
Would have liked to see the difference before 3000 RPM in this big truck that's where it matters Well maybe only off the line
2:42 since when will that fuel system support 700 HP? Do you show the final result? Something is fishy.
But bigger doesn’t mean better. Did your turbo graph match with Garrett’s specs?
What a dream!😍
A dream and a half, we appreciate your support!
What’s next to try and get to 750hpers
How do you have the amber DRL headlights like that in daytime? I want to do that on mine and I don’t know how. Am I right assuming it’s aftermarket headlights
See our other video on Morimoto Headlights!
How does the humidity affect performance? I have the same temps over here in Florida, but my humidity is usually between 80-100% , whereas yours out there may be lower….
Our humidity is incredibly different, as we're based in Arizona. I would look at the different turbo & intercooler options to see what best fits you!
The only other mods y'all currently have on this truck is the exhaust kit (looks like a Velocity AP cutout), and the tuner? No CAI, IC piping, downpipes? I've been wanting this exact kit since Garrett first released it, and I completely agree, their products are 100% top shelf. Been waiting for a good review/ evaluation of this kit so I'm ready to get mine ordered as soon as my wallet recovers from Xmas!
We have our new VR Performance valvetronic exhaust debuting soon. Stay tune for that. We do have our VR Performance cold air intake on it. Stock IC piping and stock downpipes.
@@vivid_racing awesome, tks for the reply! So what will be different from the current valvetronic kit by Velocity AP?
@@cjsimmang8526 Ours is a different design, electronic valve, and will retail for about $2500
@@vivid_racing Awesome, can't wait to hear it! Feel free to send one my way if you need more road testing time for them! Lol, but seriously!!
These work on the gen 3?
Y’all need to change the modes on the transmission like a Baja mode
at 7:01 there is a dent on the inlet part of the turbo
Sold my 18 Raptor that had a tune, intercooler upgrade, and intake and got a Ram TRX. Best move I ever made. Amazing experience, better interior, super fast, and rides sooo much nicer.
Did you or have you taken either onto dirt?
Oh yes. Compare an 18 to a 21. Maybe if you compare an actual Gen 3 21 raptor to a TRX your opinion would be more valid. Good luck with your ticking/squeeling FCA product.
@@johnhovland9511 oh the ticking noise I had 3x that required my Raptor to be in the shop multiple times for the Cam phaser issue? Funny thing about the squealing, I had to deal with that for a long time with my Raptor . Cold starts always had a squeal! Hilarious comment ! My TRX has been absolutely perfect
@@meatpunch9144 you’ll have fun until the motor blows up at 20k miles like everyone else on the forums. Or the transmission, or the CV’s. Or the leaking differentials, or the leaking oil. Where can I get a tune near Pittsburgh?
We can do it! Drop us an email sales@vividracing.com
Needs a blown coyote swap 😉. Interesting results.
why is the brand new turbo bent?
I made 421Whp and 525tq with a intercooler and E85 using the Cobb Access port. I have a 2.7 eco boost 🤣🤣🤣I am on 34” tires by the way.
I have a 23' Raptor with the 37 pkg and in stock form it does 0-60 in 5.5 seconds. Can make another video using the factory 37 wheel and tire pkg, which are a lot lighter C load range 37? Or maybe do roll race against another 37 pkg truck? That heavy unsprung weight tire setup is killing the dig run but you should be able to pull away hard on the roll race.
We would be willing to do that for science.
I would smoke you in my stock Explorer ST for a whole lot less cash. My 2020 Ranger with minimal assistance can hit those numbers. Show us another video when you hit low 5s. That would be impressive.
Idk if yall drove the truck around after installing the fmic before dyno? if drove some before might have had even better gains cause the ecu needs time to sort out the new flow.
Tons of dyno and driving in between. In fact about a month
@@vivid_racing ah cool
Make sure you keep an eye on the cam phasers and the timing chain. 😬
What about sharks with laser beams? Seriously though how can you "keep an eye" on those? What do you check?
Throw an E30 mix in there and retune, I'd bet you would pick up another 50whp.
Did someone drop the turbo?
@ 6:33 did someone drop that turbo?
Price ?
What size tires
Sorry for the stupid question, where's STUTUTU?
What is the size of aftermarket oem Garret turbocharger? and also tell the ford stock turbochargers size?
The turbine inducer is 50mm, and the reducer is 60mm!
And what are the size of stock once so I wanted to check difference
Question… what’s the life expectancy of the current stock motor with factory levels? 80k miles before major rebuild?
Then adding all the new boost levels where does that number go? 50k?
Bro 250k stock
Is this a direct fitment for a 2019 lincoln navigator? @vivid racing
Should be. Yes hit us up sales@vividracing.com
If I upgrade the intercooler and turbo system do I have to upgrade the exhaust system to gain performance. I don't like to annoying car sound
You don’t have to. Running stock downpipes on this one
Wait, so why the unreal heavy wheel and tire combo? Stock Gen 3s with 37 performance package and beadlocks are running 0-60 in 5.2-5.5….
This build shows off our custom VRForged brand.
Just going to 35s which is a common package would give them 30hp and 10-15 ft lbs of torque
So who dropped the turbo?
Holy shit . What that 10k in 2 turbo and a cooler . Ouch
Interesting results. I have a CV fabrication intercooler within AFE intake and Corsa exhaust with 20 inch black rhino wheels and 35 inch tires and can run below six second 0 to 60. This with a stage 2 tune from Cobb. No turbo upgrade. What are you guys missing?
Missing nothing. Not a quality launch in 2wd with 37’s. Follow up video coming 5.46 with 37’s
@@vivid_racing lol. Than why wouldn’t you put your best result/run in your otherwise well-produced video. Did you have to go back and re-tune it? What exactly are you getting out of the new turbos? Higher boost? Improved flow? Seems to me there are lots of people out there running mid 5 sec to 60 without the turbos just with an intake, intercooler and tune.
@@spinevice7689 We are making real world videos, not trying to set record times. Fact is we did not properly launch the vehicle. There was a commenter here who said you need to put it in 4A, brake boost, and let it rip. At the sametime this is a daily driver, so the truck might have had 45psi in tires. And they are 37" Toyo Open Country MT. So you have much more rotation mass then stock. Our new time is 5.46 on 91 octane which is good.
