I love this song so much. This is the song that introduced me to John Mayer, I had no idea who he was until this song first came out. I was like “YOU DID WHAT TO MY QUEEN??” lol

btw ik this is a year late, but if you don’t know already they dated when she was 19 and he was 32….. and she now has a song she wrote 13 years later when she finally reached the age he was when they dated called wouldve couldve should’ve about him basically saying she still has traumatic flashbacks from it, and the saddest thing is that dear john is one song she’ll never sing live again cuz it hurts her too much to sing😢

John was far too old for her. He is a master manipulator. He is a fantastic musician/guitar player but a terrible person. He called this “cheap songwriting” and tried to sue her but couldn’t prove it was about him and that it was untrue. Instead he wrote a lame comeback with Paper doll. She recently wrote Would’ve Could’ve Should’ve and it is heartbreaking.
