    Airports suck for all disabilities. I fly in a wheelchair and had ppl tell me my toddler had to walk behind us. It's like they don't think people with disabilities could possibly fly alone or have kids. Its so frustrating.

      What was their reasoning? Why should it matter to the airport employees if shes beside or behind you?

      Yes! I am the adult child of a mom who uses an electric lift wheelchair full-time; she has a degenerative neuromuscular condition and can't lift herself or use a manual chair anymore.
      We are both HoH, but even if airports were totally accessible for the deaf, I know she would still be excluded and disrespected as a wheelchair user.
      At least Tammy Duckworth got a regulation added to the US Federal Aviation Administration bill that requires airlines to report when they break or lose wheelchairs. It's something.

    its true about emergency door. I'm mad at them. I said I'm deaf but I am with family. I can see whats going on or my family will tell me what's going on. but They forced me to sit in different seat. 😤😡🤬

    I have a baha and agree, it's often hit or miss at the airport. Either you get really ignorant TSA who roll their eyes when you hand them the card saying 'hey I have a cochlear implant so I can't go through the metal detector, or you get really caring ones (at least at the regional airport where my dad lives) but at Hopkins where I live they seem to be the roll their eyes type. Same thing with the emergency aisle thing. ONLY perk is early boarding. I have a CPAP too. So traveling with that sucks. Especially since I don't drive. I have to pack as little as I can since I can't carry much. Plus I have autism and OMG places like Ohare, and even train stations like Grand Central are SO OVERWHELMING I tend to get meltdowns because I don't have escape strategies like I do when I'm home in Cleveland. Though I do I like taking the train and greyhound more because I feel they're more disability-friendly. and cheaper.

    • @janeeyre1990
      @janeeyre1990 Před rokem +1

      I have ADHD and am HoH, plus auditory processing disorder and probably sensory processing disorder.
      Airports were a lot for me before the pandemic. Traveling now on an airplane with my mom would be impossible, since she also has ADHD and is HoH plus is a full-time electric lift wheelchair user and is immunosuppressed and extremely high-risk for COVID.
      Even if we both manage to understand everything spoken to us over all the noise and successfully get on the plane without being overwhelmed or confused, the airline could still break or lose her wheelchair in transit.
      I don't know if there are any trains or buses that are accessible to a six-foot-tall person in a 250+ lb electric lift wheelchair. She can't physically enter a lot of buildings and finding reliable wheelchair accessible public transportation locally is usually a nightmare.
      I really wish that the ADA was enforced so we actually had equal access to transportation in the US.

    Brillant vidéo !!! I’m a french coda myself and both of my parents are deaf. In Jan, I flew to NYC with my mum and I can totally relate on every seconds in this video, even the wheelchair waiting for her at landing. Airport and plane experience is something special 🤣🤣🤣. When you hear everything surrounding people are saying..... and the overall nervousness..... it can be very hectic for all.
    As her interpreter, this is no joke. 😬 thank you

    • @janeeyre1990
      @janeeyre1990 Před rokem

      My mom and me are both HoH and my mom is a full-time electric wheelchair user.
      When we go to the park together, dogs always bark at her.
      Is that because dogs are freaked out by motorized wheelchairs?
      Maybe some are, but our dog doesn't mind them at all. She even licks my mom's wheelchair and lays her head on it lovingly, like it's a part of my mom.
      I think that the humans walking the dogs immediately tense up when they see my mom in her wheelchair, so the dogs sense it and get nervous too.
      Hearing people and non-disabled people really need to calm down. It's not that serious.

    This video's a long one. 💓
    It's true that airports should improve its accommodation, not only for the deaf but to all. I, myself isn't deaf, but I dream of a world where inclusion exists. 😊

    • @janeeyre1990
      @janeeyre1990 Před rokem

      Yeah my mom and me are HoH and my mom uses a 200-300 lb electric lift wheelchair. Insurance wouldn't pay for it and buying a used one cost as much as a car (thousands of dollars).
      Airports where I live (the US) constantly lose and break wheelchairs and don't always reimburse passengers.
      Even if airports were made wholy accessible to D/HoH people, my mom would still be excluded because of her physical disabilities.
      We need universal access to solve both audism and ableism.

    I find it odd how America is one of the countries that doesn't have another language on their signs and stuff like countries in Germany, where things are written in English and German. I think it's sad that deaf people around the world are still having issues to accessing daily things in life such as a movie on an airplane. I realize that it's a better place in America, where some countries deaf kids and people are still treated horribly and have no language. I hope one day we can improve that.
    Got very emotional at the end. I want to write a letter to let companies know this as someone who is a deaf ally.

      I agree. I was in an airport at D.C. with a school group and we were going through security. I took my hearing aids off because of altitude and I put them in my case, so obviously I couldn't hear as well. We were putting our bags in the bins and one of the ladies was trying to talk to me. She got mad when I didn't respond so one of my chaperones had to tell her about my hearing loss. I was so embarrassed.😡😤

    I totally understand that and the struggle, when I flew a few months ago I didn't even choose my seat on the plane and was placed in an emergency exit and then they made me move to the back of the plane and then they gave me chocolate and $20 off my next flight it was so dumb, annoying and embarrassing.
