It's never a good idea to bring your friends/relatives to interpret for you in a serious situation or a private practice. Especially using your parent as interpreter, take a look!

I’m not deaf but I am disabled and my mom has to help me with the undressing and getting on the table etc and doctors would ask her questions instead of me or she would be in the room and it was so embarrassing
reasons I would never bring my mom into a Dr's exam room. As a daughter I totally get this. When I went for my COVID test she drove me and kept trying to tell the nurse stuff "because you were coughing so much, I wanted you to save your voice" when she didn't know every thing that the lady needed to know.
This reminds me of Israeli interpreter Sammy Siroa who has talked in his act about how he learned what menstruation was when he had to interpret at his mother’s physical as a child…
You think that's bad? My mom works in the medical field itself as a doctor... so she's always so overly TMI and frank with me. While it's nice to be able to go to her because she's basically my free medical consultant, there have been times when it got embarrassing for me. Especially when talking to me about what birth control is best to use, etc in case I get myself a guy. While the medical advice is sound, it does get awkward coming from your own mother...
