The flashback tapes are introduced to give the story on the background of Crash and Coco. They're meant to be harder than the original levels, so I'll see how they evolve throughout the game.
I think the Flashback Tapes were some of my favourite content in the game. A lot of them are just about learning what to do, but some of them can be mechanically challenging also. I think the top 3 difficulty-wise would have to be The Gauntlet, Resilience Evaluation and Cortex Vortex Pre-Check. Contdown Crate Intro might seem a little daunting at first too, but once you learn it there's not too much mechanical precision needed. Brilliant additions to the franchise though, they're basically bigger bonus levels and I'm hoping for more!
Another variety game I'm going to be covering and there will be quite a few videos over the coming days. I loved the original trilogy back when they were first released, and the remasters I've uploaded to the channel before which were just as good. So following onto that I'll be playing and covering the new Crash and all of the levels and whatever else it has :)

=============================
Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on October 2, 2020
Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is not a remaster, but the first original entry in the Crash franchise in more than 10 years. To celebrate, Toys for Bob is excited to introduce a fresh art style for Crash to fans that maintains the zany spirit of the franchise while also breathing new personality and charm into it. Rewinding time back to the end of Crash Bandicoot: Warped, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time picks up after Neo Cortex, Dr. N. Tropy and Uka Uka were last stranded on a distant planet. After decades of fruitless attempts, the trio finally make their escape, ripping an Evil-Scientist-sized hole in the fabric of space-time in the process. Now all that stands between them and total dominion over the multiverse are two fuzzy marsupials from N. Sanity Island.
“Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time stands on the shoulders of the core precision gameplay we all fell in love with in the ‘90s,” said Paul Yan, Co-Studio Head at Toys for Bob. “This epic new adventure spans space and time, introducing new ways to platform that both long-time fans and new players alike will enjoy mastering. Get ready to fall in love with the mutant marsupials all over again!”
Throughout this adventure, players will uncover four Quantum Masks, the guardians of space and time, that will give them the ability to bend the rules of reality and gain advanced ways to conquer dangerous obstacles. Today we’re revealing the Time Mask, which slows everything down, and the Gravity Mask, enabling bandicoots to platform upside down. Fans will see an evolution of the Crash they know and love, equipped with advanced gameplay mechanics like wall running, rail grinding and rope swinging. They’ll be able to play as Crash or Coco on their journey to save the multiverse, and new playable characters, including the fiendish Neo Cortex, will also emerge to provide an alternative perspective on our hero bandicoots’ quest to defeat their nefarious nemeses.

So, Coco’s experiment trials started one month after Crash was declared a failure and escaped.
Meaning that during Crash 1, he was taking quite a while to rescue Tawna.
@@rayvenkman2087 Given how brutal Crash 1’s difficulty is, I don’t blame him lol.
@jevion jean how? it aint hard at all
Okay, but how did it take him almost a year to reach Tawna and rescue her? How did Cortex not manage to have Tawna subdued and prepared for the vortex?
@@JCBro-yg8vd the Vortex exploded, he needed to repair it
Imagine Crash's reaction to meeting Coco and finding out he's her brother.
Didnt know Coco had Flashback stages
Already knew. LOL
Woah!.
Very wholesome how cortex sees crash as his son as Ngin sees coco as a student
Welp, we found out were Crash and Coco got their clothes from. Crash's shorts were Cortex's and Coco's overalls belonged to N. Brio... Didn't know that was info I needed but ok
Who's up for a day of getting better clothes that didn't belong to your enemies? *raises hand*
The new questions is we're did Twana get her Cloth from and we're did Crunch get his Cloth from.
@@icekinggray6427 I don't know about Tawna, but I think its safe to think Crunch got his from N. Gin...
... Maybe Tawna's were GOING to be given to Ripper Roo, before he turned out to be too crazy for regular clothes.
@@icekinggray6427 crunch doesn’t exist in this timeline... for now.
Crashworth Cortex the First…
When you realise Cortex actually had a connection with Crash
_had_
In spite of their history Crash has no animosity toward Cortex and wishes they could be friends. Crash is ecstatic about teaming up against N. Tropy and hugs Neo. He's even shown to be saddened about being called a mistake. Not to mention Twinsanity.
46:54 Holy snap, Cortex just referenced Sonic, Bubsy and Gex! Which were the other platforming animal mascots at the time!
Man, this’s why I love the Crash 4 devs.
Yeah me too, I wish we got another gex game
*46:51
"Maybe next time I'll try a hedgehog (Sonic), or a bobcat (Bubsy), or a gecko (Gex)."
Wow, was not expecting a Sonic, Bubsy, AND Gex reference all in one.
Gex trilogy remaster???
Where?
__m__906 46:52
What, no Ty or Banjo and Kazooie?
I'm kinda gutted there's no deaths for one reason:
"N.Brio! The mop!"
First time I heard that line, I could not stop laughing for at least half an hour.
*sigh* N.Brio… the revivotron…
@@victoriahowe3190 I'm guessing both Crash and Coco fell at a few points and needed to get revived
So nice lore appreciation in this tapes. awesome stuff
The new art style really shines in these flash backs
I personally prefer the CTRNF art style, but this isn’t too bad.
@@paladinheadquarters7776 what does that mean?

Why no crash 3 warped music?
@@noirvenacava834probably because the crash and coco tapes are before crash three.
I think the Ripper Roo track in tape 10 is from CSB, not 1
I feel like there should've been a bit of dialogue making note on Tawna or something. Maybe Cortex might've noticed Crash passing a glance at her before testing and he sort of teases Crash for having an interest.
I absolutly agree with you 👏
Because Cortex is too busy catching her when she escapes to 1’s bonus rooms.
@@Mojo1356 that is only on the remakes, which makes as much sense as Tawna appearing in a bonus round and not doing anything
@@PieroMinayaRojas no- I think it makes more sense there. It’s a case of “why can’t I bring you with me?” in the originals.
46:51 if you're looking for the Sonic, Bubsy and Gex reference here it is
26:33. XD
36:19 Oh so that how Dingodile was born.
at 26:29, I live how N. Gin says, "What rocket?" as if he's completely oblivious to it as well as Cortex's reaction.
17:54 I absolutly love this part, so cute 💖💖💖✨✨🌟
Aside adding to the lore and making us chuckle with some of the mad scientists' comments, these stages are sort of puzzle platformers in that you really need to think before you leap so that you can break them in the right order. A healthy challenge.
Coco got that 1997 model Ipad.
Lmao true 🤣
I freaking LOVE the flashback tapes. Not only are they challenging, but they feel so satisfying to complete
After watching this, and now knowing where they got their clothes, I think both Crash and Coco should take a trip to the mall or something.... 😖
Thankfully this game gives them plenty of outfits to choose from!
They did, have you seen all their skins?
These tapes explains quite A LOT about everything, 1 of the reasons why this game is the best game Crash ever had :)
Definitely, Now I'm satisfied!
Its a very good game
Like the other 3 Parts
Love them all
And ctr and im hoping for crash bash remake
mmm, no its not? I mean it is a great game and a nice first step for the new developers, but to call it the best in the franchise well....
Best for me was part 2
It's not
So...that explains where Coco was during the first game...
I really how they like to put old style crash bandicoot music in the in the new game it’s really fun and creative and brings back the good old days
So....Coco Escaped Through The Super Secret Emergency Hatch And Then Found Crash And Tawna Right?
And even more confusing is cortex said hedgehog 🦔 in the last flashback tape level 46:53 what would be that hedgehog be
@@mcs9990
Well a lot of 90’s game companies tried to make attitude-filled animal mascots of their own.
So I‘m pretty sure it’s a reference to that
@@mcs9990 Dood lol
Hedgehog - Sonic
Bobcat - Bubsy
Gecko - Gex. It's a reference to that lol
Cortex:And then all of them left
And then Tawna dumped Crash for Pinstripe sometime before the events of Crash 2.
I don't remember Crash games being this f***ing hard.
They always been hard tf
Previous Crash games had some difficult elements and levels. But I feel this game has more of em. Levels are generally longer and there a far fewer "breather levels" that allow players to relax a bit. Just my opinion.
Played through the game and I agree that this is extremely hard. The old games were hard but some of it is due to the game doing stupid stuff rather than the actual level design. The levels in this game were brutal at times. I never had a stage in the old game where I died 20 times in one area just to get some set of boxes, then die in the next area again 20 times totaling 40 on the whole level. Although I can say that an experienced platformer can run through the whole game easily if you stop paying attention to the boxes and collectibles.
@@generalyousif3640 you're here😒? this one is much harder though
@@AbuSamiQ agree, but the original ps1 with its controls was a nightmare for me
Thank you so much for posting these! Like Crash, I was born in 1996 and I started playing the game when I was 3. Haven't stopped since, but I still know I won't be able to 106% this game, and that I won't complete all the flashback tapes... so I really appreciate being able to at least get some lore :)
Yeah, it sucks to pay all that money for a game and not be able to play a lot of it due to the high difficulty and other stupid crap they though was necessary.
@@eastonvonschist2283 yeah true.
That's because this game was made for people born in the late 80s 😂
Congratulations on the platinum!
Wow!, u sure are amazing at playing theses lvls, I always end up dying every freaking time at each lvl,
But that’s what make Crash 4 so awesome! ^^
So, are we not gonna talk about the continuity rewrites for N. Gin? In the manual for Crash 2 it's stated that he was taken in by Cortex after a missile he designed malfunctioned and got stuck in his face, turning him into a cyborg. And it's clear from the events of Crash 2 that Cortex discovered the master crystal and built his space station in the year long period started right after his defeat at the end of Crash 1. So how did he audition N. Gin in the past while he still had N. Brio and still had his castle?
It's not really much of a retcon...
The missile accident could have been caused by Cortex, BUT N.Gin didn't know that was Cortex's missile, nor that Cortex himself didn't know N.Gin got hit by it.
As for N.Gin being brought in with Brio and Cortex having his castle, Coco's run here takes place after Crash's escape, which closes the loophole of where she was while Crash was coming back to save Tawna. By the time Crash returns and save Tawna, Coco must've gotten out before the place went up in flames.
Brio could have left shortly after his defeat, going off-grid and conspiring against Cortex as he was replace by N.Gin.
@@ryudragonuv That last part seems really far fetched, between the N Brio boss fight of Crash 1 and the final boss with Cortex N Brio was replaced with N Gin? How?
Crash 4 doesn’t contradict anything in the manual. Tell me where it contradicts it. The comment above at least answers the rocket in head situation.
It's not so much that N. Brio was replaced by N. Gin out right, and more so that he went missing / into hiding after his boss fight in Crash 1.
Thus leading to N. Gin effectively taking his place in Crash 2. In these flashbacks, he's a fresh applicant, and likely a lower level employee before becoming Cortex's right hand.
Honestly I always wanted to know the backstory since the bandipedia didn't satisfy me, Absolutely find the dialogue entertaining XD
30:14 This is a crazy moment! I spent one hour to get through it! By chance!
Still stuck lol
So Crash's birthday is 19th July. Nice to know
Which means he's a Cancer ♋🦀
+Esteban Gutierrez That explains why at the end of Crash 2 if you don't complete it Crash gets dragged off by a crab lol.
This man... these tapes... these deathless runs...IMPOSSIBLE!!!!
i love how they're using Crash 2 PSX version OST and not the remake ones to really bring in the nostalgia
So n gin is the reason why coco is so smart
4:39
So Crash has pretty much been eating nothing but Wumpa fruits ever since he was mutated?
No wonder he's so slim. Needs to put meat on his bones.
OH MY GOD THE STRESS
So no ones gonna talk about that giant thing watching you from outside in the 2nd flashback tape?
42:01
Just found a strategy that cheeses this drop and makes it a bit easier. Just butt stomp the iron crates on the sides to break the first pair of armored crates, then carefully bounce the flame crates. With that done, you’ll only have one row to deal with!
8:17 is this a hint that back when the character was still Willy the Wombat that you weren't able to break crates with your head
2:22
WHY IS NO ONE TALKING ABOUT THE CREATURE IN THE BACKGROUND???!!!!
IS THAT A PANDA???
idk
Interesting......
It’s a sheep
I think it's a cow. Is it a reference to something?
16:02
I always wondered does Cortex care about N Brio? Their relationship is always sketchy
Nah, not really
He literally has screws in his head that he tightens every time he does something wrong
Isn't N Brio used to call Cortex "Dr. Cortex" instead of "Master"?
Only in serious moments like Crash becoming a general
18:40 I guess that's why he betrayed him later on
Tbh, I would as well.
I wonder if they used the uncompressed versions of these songs the original composer has on his sound cloud
thanks for helping me get platinum
Thanks God this game doesn't penalize for dying in this levels...
Also this explains the bonus areas in crash 1
2:22 big eye in the windows XD
Not gonna lie, pretty proud of myself. Didn’t cave into using a guide until Countdown Crate Intro.
Cortex actually liked crash and didn’t just use him interesting
Bro you are a damn god at gaming. You make the rest of us look so inferior
46:51
"Maybe next time I'll try a hedgehog (Sonic), or a bobcat (Bubsy), or a gecko (Gex)."
I wish I knew about these earlier before I replayed crash bandicoot 1
I spent about one hour to get past number 10 thank u
46:51Sonic the Hedgehog, Bubsy and Gex reference
Well, that covers it. Cortex created Sonic, Bubsy, and Gex. That is my personal headcanon and nobody can stop me! AHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
So sick
thanks!!
Okay this is N Saaaneee😳😳
I noticed in the background of stages 3 and 4 that sheep were falling into the abyss. Was Cortex Castle powered by killing sheep?!
I'm guessing he found a portal to some dimension full of dragons and decided to dump sheep in there for the fun of it.😉
That might just be a Spyro reference.
Maybe it’s what cortex,n gin, brio and n,tropy eat, after all,we don’t see them eat anything else,or maybe the sheep are thrown into the incinerator, like in Willy Wonka where the bad eggs and veruca go.
I call this compilation of levels a short, challenging but fun game: “Crash Bandicoot: Origins”
Double Title parody of Rayman Origins and the origin of the Bandicoot siblings
Huh good one
they definitely should of had an alternate version of coco that was the leader of cortexs army and was vengeful towards crash for leaving her behind.
No way! Coco looks up to her big brother.
It's cool character development, but Cortex caring about Crash doesn't feel right considering his coldness towards him in the almost every game.
Also, N-Gin is supposed to have known Cortex at school.
If N.Gin and Cortex knowing eachother is from anything past the original trilogy, I don't think it's canon to the new timeline anyway.
That was false, and Cortex’s final bosses are easy cause he cares about him
I feel that Cortex stopped “caring” for crash after he was denounced a failure and and escaped in crash 1
22:34 this takes place the same day the first game takes place well at least the beginning of the game
0:02 yay more world building also I wonder how cortex was able to buy the islands and his castle if he is public enemy number 1 along with brio
46:51 References to Sonic, Bubsy and Gex
Blimey, some of these are crazy difficult 😂
I like the old music best
Alright, was trying to see how far I got on these during my first playthrough a few years ago. Looks like I got to Resilience Evaluation before I had to just give up... not bad, that means I only left 2 unfinished. Had I continued, I may have ended up with a broken controller, console, TV... and probably at least a few windows. And the structural integrity of the apartment I lived in at the time
Anyway, can't tell if the last one is actually not that bad, or if you just made it look super easy. Regardless, great playing
This levels prove thst the game is UNFAIRLY HARD
thanks
This confirms his birthday to be July 19th 😁
30:14 gave me nightmares to complete
I SPENT 1 hour and 30 minutes of countdown box intro i want to die
That one is so tedious omg. All they needed to do is maybe use 1-2 more checkpoints and that would've saved people lotsa time on the retries.
8:46 rip Willy
21:06 - DANG!!!!
The last two are plain sadistic.
There’s one big problem with these tapes, how can nitros and nitro jump crates be here, since they weren’t introduced until crash two.
3:24 Cortex himself basically said "seems promising, but might need further testing". Nitro bounce crates could likely be the same explanation as normal nitro, albeit with the tangency of being deemed unfit, and thus scrapped from whatever Cortex planned to do with them. (In other words, not being used or "existing" in Crash 2 & 3.)
As for the Timer crates, you got me on that one. Closest I could guess to it making sense is that it was either made by, or time travel imported by N. Tropy. Cortex did get a call from him at some point in Coco's trials. 41:51
Honestly, on the subject, it would've been really cool if they put in the unused POW crates from Crash 1's beta in these levels as a way of cementing that it's before the events of that game, and as a neat call back.
35:53 How?! When I try such a thing I plummet to my death, like a vacuum would suck me into the depths (yes, I'm inputting the dbl jump).
Same question for 36:37.
22:21
Is the level I hate
I wish if I can meet the dev who create
and I hate alot 43:41
It took me more than 2 hour to finish this level
I wish is I can meet the developer who design this level
18:01 happy birthday to me My birthday was in october 13th
They need to release some harder ones as dlc, alot of these were hard but they could be much harder.
Whats this in background level 2?
Original trilogy was like okay its hard but can posible be done but this one is too hard and 100% this? Might be in top 20 hardest Platinum on ps3/ps4/ps5
Do I have to get all the 📦 to move on to the next part ??
Well, who’s shoes are those from Crash and who’s iPad are those from Coco?
Hedgehog= sonic
Bobcat= Bubsy
Gecko= Gex
lol
Why are all of my flashback tapes levels the same?
30:52
YOU DON'T EVEN LOOK LIKE A BANDICOOT
it is a references to crash of the titans were N.Gin was even crazy
So cortex gave crash his old shorts and cortex picked out coco's outfit
The overalls of Coco belong to N.Brio and we're made by his mother, Cortex stole them and give them to Coco.
CRASH BANDICOOT 4 ALL CASSETTE FLASH BACK V2"5 2022)😀😀
I must be the only one that used the classic skins to play these levels, lol … but I’m sure that I’m not the only one who died a hundred thousand times, unlike this fella who’s just breezing through like it’s nothing! ^^;
Does it count towards 106% completion when you complete flashback tapes without dying?
You must complete them but you can die as much as you want
21:21 That move doesn't work for me 99% of the time I just shoot through the crates into the void, even if I press jump.
17:26 I don't think it would have been hard to disable that animation for the flashback tapes because now we have a plot hole
so, Crash's birthday is on July 19th
DO YOU HAVE TO PLAY AS COCO ON FLASHBACK TAPE 12
Yes,the ten other flashback tapes are coco’s ones, during crash one.and no,you can’t swap back to crash.coco’s tapes take place during crash’s mission to save tawna.
Is no one going to question the huge thing spying on Crash in the background?
That’s most likely cortex watching crash and coco.
36:20 I can not figure out how to do this
