    Hogs in Texas do over $50 million worth of damage to agriculture in Texas every year. Here's an excerpt from the Texas Parks and Wildlife website:
    In 2007, researchers estimated that each wild pig carried an associated (damage plus control) cost of $300 per year, and at an estimated 5 million wild pigs in the population at the time, Americans spent over $1.5 billion annually in damages and control costs (45). Assuming that the cost-per-wild pig estimate has remained constant, the annual costs associated with wild pigs in the United States are likely closer to $2.1 billion today (10, 11, 45).

    Hey, fun fact. Here in Idaho (U.S.A) the literal second your license plate "Vanity plate" expires, anyone can scoop it. My dad had "KC135" for a few years. The day it expired he got pulled over. Someone had already snagged the plate (Less than 24 hours after his expired) He had to go to court to prove he had not stolen the plate. Kinda' funny TBH. Long story short. Vanity plates are expensive, stupid, and have NO value here in North America. (Canada has similar laws) Meanwhile y'all are snagging them to resell like it's a domain name. You really do not want to eat feral hogs. For one, they’re so tough and gamey that you wouldn’t want to eat them anyway, but also the parasites and diseases they might carry.
    Though they are the size of small cows and there are hordes of them, so it’s a lot of meat.. though they can and will kill and eat you if things go wrong.
    And they can decimate several crop fields in a surprisingly small amount of time, destroy property, kill your pets and eat them. You have to be very careful going around outdoors after dark out in the country in Texas. It takes a LOT to kill one of those fuckers, and you’re probably not going to kill it before it gets you, and even if you do, there are about 12 others nearby who go CRAZY at the scent of blood.

    • @RoAoG
      @RoAoG Před 2 lety +2

      in my experience feral hog meat is delicious far tastier than grocery store pork, alot of the gamey taste is due to poor butchering and processing. and much like other tough cuts of meat, cooking low and slow allows the meat to become tender and perfectly safe to eat. i live in houston but i go out to a friends property a few miles south of waco atleast once a year with other friends and hunt them. and like others have said they are extremely dangerous and without a high caliber rifle it wont do much other than anger them. some people may think its cruel to kill 20-30 animals in a couple days but feral hogs cause millions of dollars of damage every year and wreak havoc all over texas

    With active pests like you said, its often encouraged to hunt them. In my area coyotes are a nuisance, as they hunt a lot of the game in the area, and there are times there is a noticeable decrease in the deer population . Times like this, people actively go out and hunt coyotes because for every coyote you kill, you save a deer.
    There was a time where this was such an issue, governments would put bounties on nuisances pelts. They may give a dollar per coyote pelt, and 50 cents for a racoons. I've seen similar done with crows who harm local crops.

    Licensed hunters here in Germany are hunting wild hogs and deer (during the hunting season only, ofc) and selling the meat to restaurants, butchers and private citizens all the time. But we have veterinarians who check the muscle meat and inner organs for signs of parasites (like _trichina_ worm cysts) before its allowed to be sold. Restaurants that routinely offer game (boar, venison, pheasant) during season often have fenced-in enclosures in forested areas for "game farming", where wild pigs, deer, stags & pheasants are kept (and fed during the winter months) but allowed to roam semi-free and graze or dig for roots and mushrooms and nuts. Just to ensure there's enough on hand to satisfy customer demand, instead of having to rely solely on private hunters going into the forests and hunting in the wild (which requires a licenced hunter training and a shooting licence and a hunting permit).
    Btw, "feral hogs" or "feral swine" for biologists denotes pigs that were formerly domesticated but have escaped into and bred in the wild, or cross-bred with wild pigs.
    But populations of both wild pigs and feral pigs have been multiplying all over the world, due to them being omnivores, thriving in both forests and urbanized areas where humans have killed off predators, being very smart animals, and humans giving them abundant food sources both from agriculture (maize/corn, potatoes etc), thrown away food in trashbins and fast food. They're just as good at breeding as humans and rats.

    • @TF2CrunchyFrog
      @TF2CrunchyFrog Před 2 lety

      But "hunting" wild animals from helicopters with semi-automatic guns as they do in USA and Alaska is just perverted.... it's animal abuse riddling them with bullets instead of killing them quickly and as painlessly as possible with a well-placed shot to the head or heart! And I doubt you can still properly butcher and eat an animal carcass that has been ripped apart by bursts of bullets from high-caliber semi-automatic weapons that pierce the body: if your hail of bullets pierced the entrails or brain/spine and carries bacteria and feces from the entrails or bone splinters and (potentially infected) spinal fluid into the muscle meat, it's ruined.

      @@yeturs69420 its not like banning weapons would fix it either, everyone knows some people or friends that own guns, its not like a suicidal spree killer would suddenly have trouble getting some guns....

      @@raafmaat If you don't want to ban them, make the law more restrictive, background checks and yearly psychological checkups raise the age that you're allowed to purchase a gun, don't let anyone bulk buy ammo and for crying out loud do not let everyone to purchase semi automatic rifles.
      If you want to hunt, a bolt action rifle would be enough, you want to defend your home, a handgun is more than enough
