Good info here, It may help guys understand that the root cause and effect here is the amount of heat you’re building inside the combustion chamber, so getting that heat to build quickly and transferring it as efficiently as possible to the drive side of the turbo. The expansion rate of the exhaust gases are the driving mechanism for building boost.

Cubic inch & compression......exactly! Thank you for addressing especially the compression part which many seem not to understand, including so-called professionals.
And for all of you who are watching this , I'm going to tell you that with over 20 years experience building high performance engines and high-end modifications myself, Devin is somebody you want to listen to. Out of the countless videos out there he is one of the few who are dead on point. I have yet to see him give bad information , and in fact give very good information. See it's real easy does sound like you know what you're talkin about when those who are listening have no clue, or very little. And unfortunately I have seen so-called professionals, even from well-known companies, give redundant and outright terrible information. I don't know but I'll be the first to call it out. Maybe it's because 20 + years ago I wish there was somebody to do the same. I understand what it's like when you work hard for a living and you end up wasting a bunch of time and money because of people giving a bunch of contradictive and or bad advice.

I absolutely respect the way this video was executed! People try to copy what the next person did in a build that is completely different from their own, even if some of the specs are similar, and he can't understand why it doesn't work the way they thought. Well this guy did this that and this and so either you should or I should do the same. When in fact engine building is a combination of all the individual components together, and then the same applies to the vehicle it's being installed in, in that the combination of everything as a whole, and then the desired result and personal preference to top it off. A carbon copy of what the next person did may not work for you. And so yes Devin never told anybody to do this or that! LOL! How true

Working with smaller engines can be tough and you need to have patience.
My twin 76mm 370" sbc in our drag n drive truck makes 1277hp at 7,200rpm and 26lbs of boost. At 3,500rpm with no boost, I dont think it makes even 300hp here in Denver.
It was hard to find a good balance in the converter. Something driveable yet loose enough it would spool. I think we had it out of the truck 7 or 8 times to change a stator or cover.

98mm turbocharger is way too big for a 400 cubic inch engine he needs to be using a 78mm at the smallest to a 86mm at the largest size instead because the engine displacement doesn't provide enough exhaust flow to properly spool up the turbo the proper engine displacement for a 98mm turbocharger is 460 cubic inch or larger displacement engine for a small block or go with a big block of 7 liters or larger displacement.

@@theholleyefiguy where is the intercooler at because without it the air density is going to be very lousy colder the air intake charge is the more power you can achieve and a 98mm turbo is nearly a 4 inch turbo and the placement of the turbo that low will suck a lot of heat because of how close it is to the track a twin 76mm setup with the turbos placed high up by the firewall will do much better for higher power output because each turbo can spool up much faster because it is closer to the exhaust manifold which means less turbo lag.
