Chasing Trains: Y Class' in Central Victoria, Australia

- In this installment, I embark on a journey an hour away from Melbourne to the charming regional town of Castlemaine. Our mission: to pursue the 707 Operations tour 'The Winelander,' featuring three vintage Victorian Railways Y Class locomotives running on the Victorian Goldfields railway. Following that, we traverse the countryside to reach the Daylesford Spa Railway, eagerly anticipating the inaugural service featuring the former V/Line N set.

The Gold Fields area of Victoria is very beautiful country, and you showed it off well. Pity the weather did not co-operate, but..... You still got some great shot.
The Daylesford Spa Railway is a great experience, I had a trip on an 280hp Walker, and even the grandchildren enjoyed it.

Yeah the trip at Daylesford was the first locomotive hauled passenger train between Daylesford and Bullarto with paying passengers since the last train to Daylesford in 1978

Given the weather and the travel required, I really appreciate the effort involved so that I can sit back and watch from afar. I like the fact that you let the trains 'speak' for themselves. Keep it up!
Great video. So much to love. Great to see even modern trains are being preserved. I hope at least a couple of Xpts are preserved when they are withdrawn in the coming years.

The last time I saw a train running on the Daylesford Spa Country Railway was about 5 years ago & their DERM had the duties after the whole area had been covered in a decent dusting of snow. It was quite a sight.
Since then, of course, the line between Bullarto & Musk was almost destroyed with hundreds of trees being blown onto the tracks after a terrible storm in 2020, I think it was.
The crew at the DSCR have done a wonderful job to get it up & running again, I hope the addition of their new rolling stock continue their growth.

G'day Will, l live in Bendigo and have travelled on both those lines on a regular basis, a vast amount of effort is spent keeping those railways open and visitation from those in Melbourne is a must, thanks for showing this video it will help the cause, cheers mate, Neil 🤠.
Nice video Will. Triple Y classes on the VGR would of been awesome to see. I'm glad to see a few heritage railway groups have gotten there hands on an N set! better they get preserved then scrapped. - Nicholas.
That actually looked like quite the trip for the 707 Ops folks who got to travel on it, nicely chased and captured!

With no insult to the A350, Wow, That Power to Weight ratio will blow your mind and i would rather Cente Consol Control Column to that of the A350 with Side Stick but it did put on an impressive display, I just hope Boeing can get a Catch on this Problem and Lock it down, Pardon then Pun or might they yet Rue the Day of a Purpose Built Single Isle Short Range Aircraft, If they found themselves to get into a position to buy out Embraer with its ,""E'" Series of Aircraft, Go for it not to mention that the Twin Engineered Military Air Transport could fill a Number of Roles i the the United States Navy for one with her Engined stowed quite close to the Fuselage means better ability for a Folding Wing Design and on land an all purpose Airlift and Fully Tasked Gun Ship i the Close in Support Role.

Just curious, why it needs to have 3 locos pulling a short passenger rake. Are there punishing grades on the route? All the same, looks and sounds awesome. I am all about loco sound.

Hey sir I'm a massive throbing gunzil so I need to correct you. Shelley railway station on the Cudgewa line was the highest railway station at 2562ft.
Close but no cigar.

Shelly was the highest station, but Bullarto is currently the highest operating station.

Good morning to you Will well I just watched your CZcams on the Daylesford line and the trains running from Castlemaine to Moulden. Get me all fired up. I’ll have to do a weekend in one weekend this year anyway I don’t wish to rave on but I’ve got a holiday coming up in mid March on spending five days in Sydney. Gonna do the zigzag railway I’ve booked paid for a ticket already I’m doing a cruise in the city harbour for dinner for you and I think I’ll go for a ride. I want to meet system to somewhere then I go to Brisbane for five days. I’m doing the spirit of the outback which is an overnight sleeper that goes to Longreach then I come back to Brisbane on the train and then I’m flying down to Adelaide to spend five days for Adelaide. I will be going through the Port Dock museum anyway once again I know I’m brave but I’m a bit too much warning in this comic but well done Will on the CZcams page so like getting me fired up. I might have to do a weekend in winter. Try to do both railways yours Jeff? PS we met at the exhibition at the Showgrounds Jeff, I’m a member of the large scales at A.M.R.A
I hope the State government is providing financial assistance to restore the Walkers. Loved the Southern Aurora , should never have been scrapped , the XPT is a bland elevator
Most of the Southern Aurora exists with LVR, THNSW and 707 Operations!

the video would be more interesting if we just had shot of the trains an your commentary over the top. instead we have long pans of trains going passed (gosh we don't need to see the 100th passenger car go by or have 30 seconds of train approaching) interrupted with long sections of information. The passing is slow, the entire video feels so drawn out. Shooting and travel notes - who cares? the video is watching trains not hear you wine about the weather and lack of 4wd.
