- One of the "The Color Purple's" leading ladies-- Danielle Brooks-- has been a star since the world first fell in love with her as Taystee on Netflix's "Orange is the New Black." Since then, her standing-ovation worthy performances onscreen and onstage have made us love her more. But, her journey to this point did not come easy. In this episode of "The Healed Girl Era Podcast," she talks to Gia about how she navigated the pitfalls of "overnight success," how OITNB led her back to therapy, her relationship with rejection and how God's full circle moments keep her inspired to keep going no matter what.
This interview was filmed two weeks before the strike ended. After SAG AFTRA completed negotiations, Gia and Danielle connected via zoom to celebrate her triumphant reprisal of Sophia and how God brought her to another life-affirming full circle moment.

I cried several times throughout this interview. I felt seen and understood on such a deep level. I spent most of this year questioning God and wondering if what I believed He put in me was my true purpose...but I realized I've had hope over faith. There have been so many no's but I now see that His no's don't mean stop working, they mean keep showing up and know He will provide.
Beautiful conversation. "Don't be afraid of the strength and power you withhold in yourself." Needed this.
