I like how they formatted this as both an announcement trailer for the upscale and as a bit of a âpreviously on..â trailer for the 60th
Not really since that would mean the rest after tenant would've been there as well.
@@thepikachuboy43 what I mean is they really focused on Donnaâs memory which is going to be a main plot point in the specials

Golden age of television right here. It wasn't just the quality of the stories, or the amazing cast and crew that made this era so special, it was the sense of community that came with it. So many people I knew and would see in my day to day life seemed to be watching and talking about the show, and that was wonderful. I could rewatch these series on loop all day every day and never get bored. I miss how big this show was.
Everyone I've met that stopped watching, from people I've met at Primary School all the way to University, have said the same thing: 'I missed Tennant'. Literally none of them could handle the concept of regeneration. That's why they stopped watching, they didn't understand the show lol.
@@VivaSuga I dont think thats neccesarily fair, Moffats run on Doctor who had massive tonal shifts and while it had some brilliant episodes it was FAR less consistent than 1-4, and the less said about Chibnalls direction choices and writing the better. Its not people couldnt handle the regeneration, they just didnt like the direction that unfortunately began with Matt Smith. Never heard anyone say they hate him as an actor, far more the quality of the writing of the show. I missed Tennant because he symbolised an era that felt less whimsical and slightly more grounded, that isnt to say I wasnt excited to see what Matt Smith or even Capaldi brought at the start of their times on the show.
â@@VivaSugaI love the sugababes!
â@@TheRealGamingXD Oh, exactly this.
ââââ@@TheRealGamingXDRTD was not that consistent either to be fair. Series 2 still remains one of the weakest series of the revival along with Series 7 and 11. Moffat was great, a genius writer and showrunner. Then Chibnall is undoubtedly more controversial.
As for the ones who left after Tennant, let's be honest for a second, it never was because of artistic and writing decisions. Most people don't have a clue about writing and storytelling. The simple fact is when Smith came along, the revival became an other show. If you discovered the show with Series 1 and based your definition of Doctor Who around these four first series, it's pretty obvious you wouldn't want to keep going with Series 5, isn't it ? Well that's not even the case. Some people stopped watching, but at the same time more people started to watch, and up until 2014, viewing figures remained high and consistent.
The downfall of Doctor Who has a at least three main causes :
-The downfall of TV itself, ratings started to fall around the mid 2010's at the very same time Netflix became a thing
-Less and less money given for marketing. 2019-2022 seemed like BBC just gave up and wouldn't care to give proper money to promote the show. Chibnall revealed they simply had no budget planned for marketing.
-The show just became more complex. What made the RTD era such a success is the mass appeal factor. It was written in order to be understandable for the widest public. Doctor Who in the 2000's was very simple and basically based on the same formula every year (it was not more consistent, but it was more predictable). When Moffat came along, he basically reinvented the show, but a part of the masses ran away because the show became more and more demanding with it's continuity, it's themes and it's writing. Heaven Sent and Hell Bent are arguably one of the greatest masterpieces of the show, but they were bound to have less commercial appeal than Blink or Day of the Doctor.

â@LetsPlayNintendoITAwhat's the difference between upscales and remasters
@@tornaclconor5149 Itâs basically the same thing. Remastered is a term used in music for when an album is being rereleased and the artist or label hires a mastering engineer to âremasterâ the âold masterâ (original) to give it a more modern (âbetterâ) sound. An upscale is basically the same thing just for videos. An upscale can inprove the overall video quality it really depends on how its done. You can just render a 480p video to a 1080p file and it will look 1:1 the same since the video information is the same or do an A.I. upscale which will give the video more information so it will look sharper/smoother or something just looks absolutely bad because they didnât know how to use it. These are all upscales but I think they are doing the same thing which they are doing with the Doctor Who: The Collection box sets and they donât use A.I but look overall better than their older DVD releases.
â@@tornaclconor5149A remaster is more taking material of a particular level of resolution and giving it a fresh scan, an upscale is taking material from a lower resolution level to a higher one. An example; with classic Who, because Spearhead from Space was shot entirely on film, all of which exists in the archives, that got an HD remaster (and technically could get a 4K one), these episodes were filmed in SD video, so it's an upscale to 1080p. Makes sense?
these episodes give the best memories .
It's so damn good. Doctor Who is the best wildest craziest most incoherent and fun set of stories I can possibly imagine.
I think the most important question on everyone's minds is: Have they fixed the audio on this release!?
Choo choo! All aboard the hype train everybody! Damn! Never been so excited for a trailer of a show I have allready seen!
My two favorite Doctors. And some of the best seasons of television ever written.
@@FreeTheDonbas in the wise words of Captain America:
No, I don't think I will.
@@FreeTheDonbasNone of which is actually true in the real world, but then we shouldnât expect intelligence from someone who thinks he watches a show called âDoctor Huâ!
@FreeAssange okay. You're entitled to your opinion. Not gonna spoil my enjoyment because my enjoyment is based on quality of writing and not your cynicism but you can still be grouchy about it if you want to. Maybe go watch Genesis of the Daleks or The Time Warrior or Enemy of the World or something, that'll make you feel better. âïž
@@FreeTheDonbas And literally none of that is actually true in the slightest.
@FreeAssange I can't admit it because I think you are wrong. I think the quality of writing in the first 4 Series of New Who is excellent. I think that monster heads and Sonic screwdrivers and catchphrases all serve as tools to telling a story (though I will admit I'm never a fan of fart jokes, a strange subset of British humor that I've never understood). That utter self-assurance of your opinions that you are feeling right now? That it how confident I am in Series 1-4s quality. They tell us stories of a lost war veteran that learns to live again, a lonely survivor who finds joy in life, disparate people brought together by impossible odds, the strength of the human spirit, the growth of a man unwilling to commit genocide twice, even against the worst race of monsters the universe has ever seen. They portray the joy of victory and the pain of loss, that even the most powerful person in the universe still has limits. The trials of parenthood and difficult family relationships, and the idea that someway, somehow, good will always triumph over evil. The animal monster heads, the magic Sonic, (not the fart jokes), the catchphrases? Those are all dressing.
I firmly believe that there is something wonderful and unique about each and every Doctor, old and new. I have been so blown away by Classic Who's writing on occasion, and so impressed with its production value considering the time, technology, and budget. It's amazing, and there is so much of both old and new that there is something for everyone. But I'm not here for hard sci-fi, if I was, I'd watch Star Trek. I'm here for Doctor Who. If you don't like it, that is okay. You don't have to, nobody is forcing you, including me. Bask in what you love and share it, but it's no good trying to tear down something someone else like just because you hate it so much, because you won't change anyone's mind that it is good. Classic Doctor Who had 26 seasons, enjoy them, they aren't going anywhere. I'll take 26 plus 4 and every special.
remastered? like what happened to yana when he opened his fob watch?
Here sir/lady, have an upvote for this excelent pun!

I love that thereâs a trailer for the best era of doctor who. That I canât even remember seeing trailers for as I was 1-6 at the time of its release. It gives me goosebumps
I'm all for rereleasing this series to get more fans exposed to that era! I will wait for screen comparisons with previous releases before deciding on getting this for myself, though (I've already got previous releases, including the Tennant Era set).
Will these new remasters finally be running at the correct speed? The original blu-ray release of the first four series ran at 24fps instead of the original 25fps they were produced in, meaning the episodes all ran slightly slower than they were supposed to.
That's what I'd like to know too, as well as how much of a quality difference there is on this new release!
Upscaling this series 1-4 was the most financially sound decision the BBC ever made.
Series 1 and 2 of The Sarah Jane Adventures should be upscaled too please!
I'd love a Blu-ray set of that show
@@Fredsterface I know right! Series 3 which was filmed in HD wasnât even given a blu ray release so hopefully they can do a big boxset of it all
@@carsforever4002 they're already done a dvd box set. Why not a Blu-ray?
@@Fredsterface Literally, they released a magazine celebrating SJA a few months back, putting the show on iPlayer again and having a Rani big finish spin off so with all the re-hype I hope they can release a blu ray boxset.
That show died after series 1. The kid playing Clyde cannot act to save his life and the more screen-time he got, the more I squirmed. And as cool as Rani is, I always missed Maria. The relationship she built with Sarah-Jane was so wholesome and tender. Also Luke largely being removed from the show sucked too. Yeah I know the IRL reasons for character departures, but the show was magic in Series 1 and it never felt the same afterwards.
UNBELIEVABLE!!! â€â€â€

The Golden Age of the whole show right here folks. Fantastic characters, gritty realism, brilliant writing, impeccable stories, hilarious comedy, topped with two excellent spin-offs and crossovers that could give Infinity War a run for it's money. The First RTD Era was truly one of the greatest things to air on television, and I can't wait to see what Russell has in store for us in his next run.

Iâd say Series 1-4 are more likely to be useful for it, but OK.
@@FreeTheDonbas Itâs not a garbage show, though. Youâd know that if you had any ability for genuine rational thought.
@@FreeTheDonbas Iâve seen it myself, and it doesnât fit your description in the slightest. Your other claim is blatantly untrue as well, as proven by all the myriad Netflix shows that are objectively better than many things on terrestrial television. _Heartstopper,_ _The Crown_ and _Squid Game,_ to name just three (of which I have seen the first two).
Again, you would know all this already if you actually had even a single functioning braincell in your head!
As tempted as I am by this, Iâm gonna hold out until and if they do a remastered series 5-10 box set.
As Steven Moffat is writing the Christmas special, it could be a good time.
Also, Iâm slightly disappointed that they havenât given Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures the same treatment for this box set, especially as they tie into the narrative.

all i'm hoping for is that it'll be 25fps instead of the slowed down 24fps like last time
The start of the show's reboot from these series will always be the best thing that has even been on TV
As cool as this is, I actually like the lower definition of the early series. It gives it a nostalgia, reminds me of watching them on a crappy box TV back in 2005 and recording them onto a VHS
Don't say "back in", it makes me feel old đŽ
A pro po, do you think that people are now starting to see upscaling as the new colourisation? Something to rail against as taking away from the authentic.
1960ies on a 10" black & white !
@user-yx4mc2sl4m I feel old too and I'm not đ€Ł People born in 2005 are now 18 and it just doesn't feel right to me
As for the colourisation thing, I don't have an issue with upscaling and remasters, I probably will check them out, but there's something about the crappy visual quality of the originals that I enjoy
I was there at the start of the revival of doctor who and have watched it a million times on my dvds that it's so worn out. But with the new upscaling tech doctor who can look AMAZING
YES YES YES YES YES
Very cinematic! Love it. Gave me âdoctor who: the collectionâ announcement vibes â€
I'd love it if the packaging for this was in the style of The Collection, so it could sit on the shelf alongside them neatly.
I think the appropriate word at this juncture is "SKWEEEE!"
I think BBC could make an entire channel just endlessly remixing clips from the series and we'd all just be here loving it.
THIS LOOKS AMAZING
This is fantastic! Wonderful memories!
i really hope this isnt what the remastered blu ray looks like, because this doesnt look good. even factoring in youtube compression, ive seen better efforts by fans to upscale.
The absolute best of everything!
Getting The Dark Knight vibes with the background Music/Score. Woah đł
Definitely picture look great. Ordered. Lifelong fan
I'll be very curious to see how this was done. Considering RTD shot the series with a 576i25 DigiBeta wide-screen format and then filmised to give a 25p image in post-production using a Snell and Wilcox Alchemist Platinum. Not shot in HD!
So, will this include the Children in Need episodes? And will the first one (the "Born Again" post-regeneration one) have the correct broadcast score and sound effects track instead of the temp score version that's been on every single home video release to date?
I sadly doubt it. This is a lazy re-release. All that we're getting new is some self-indulgent Russell T Davies clip.
I've only just got around to seeing this after seeing fans go mad about it on socials. But I understand why now. What a trailer this is!!
