There is a max that IQ can be paid and I'm sure the Raptors will match that if Orlando or any other team offers that. The Raps don't have to match it right away though, there is a time limit and they can wait a few days before matching.
While that time passes the team who has offered IQ the contract now has to wait to see what happens and watch all the other potential fee agents sign somewhere else while the Raps delay.
Thiis will limit the teams willing to take the risk on offering him a contract.

Regardless raptors have to tip toe around the cap. MSLE will not go into the tax. We atleast can exceed the cap to resign these guy and should have some cushion before the tax but this roster needs a lot of help so they need to keep flexibility especially going into the future.
A lot hangs on this lottery at the end of the week. If we draw the top 6 pick that’s 7.5 mil and the 19th would be like 3.5 mil. So about 11 mil of cap would go to those picks if raptors select them in the draft.

If you think Masai traded OG and Pascal to have IQ walk you’re smoking something stronger than weed. This would leave him with the worst return in for assists in raptors history.
