“The more numerous a species is, the more likely it is to fall victim to the killer fungus.”
Well, I see the last of us wasn’t that far off.
Hallison Michel the insects aren’t the problem, it’s the fungus.
Squid 646 He means that the number of humans is far less than the number of ants.
Funny thing is, as soon as I scroll down the narrator says the line, “The more numerous a species is, the more likely it is to fall victim to the killer fungus.” as I read your comment.
I have a feeling God implemented the cordyceps in an update to balance the game a bit
The Last of Ants
“What if… for instance, the world were to get slightly warmer?”
"we lose"
OMG *flashback
I actually talked about this with my brother (who’s currently studying biology) and luckily the cordyceps is a long way from being able to withstand human body temperatures. It would probably take a million years for them to evolve enough to survive it. It is cool how tlou linked the zombies to a real natural phenomenon, even if it theoretically isn’t close to happening yet at all

The beauty of this shot where death becomes the blooming of life, the mushroom growing from the corpse is just incredible.

"Decay exists as an extant form of life"

The most terrifying thing about this fungus is that it really takes control of the ants brain.
It actually blocks the normal function of the ants brain trapping its brain and preventing it from sending signals it can't move think
@@BossOfAllTrades so if it takes control of humans it won't make us zombie like?
it actually takes control of the ant's musculature
@@20PINKluvr it may not make them aggressive, people might just start climbing buildings and turning into a fungal growth
@@maggie_ Though people might be easier to spread infections to other people in comparison to an ant or bug. Perhaps the fungus could evolve to cause people to act out aggressively so as to spread the infection more quickly that way.

@Dana William humans eat fungi too lol, idk the death rates globally of people eating well known deadly mushrooms, but it's gotta atleast be 2 people.
Therefor it wouldn't be a stretch to say a hungry homeless man find a unique looking mushroom & eats it.. Thus, starting a new plauge of zombie like peoples. And maybe instead of climbing to a high place to spore, the fungus uses the human intellect to spread its spores more effectively.
Like an irrigation system, or mindless cattle who will let you spit in their mouths..

I now do have a new route to channel my anxiety ☺️
It's terrifying how realistic this is, the fact that organisms can learn and mutate at anytime with potential of affecting cross species, fungus has to be alot smarter than bacteria and viruses and given that HIV came from apes and jumped to humans, this just gives me chills
An invasive plant fungus that exclusively infected plants and weeds infected its first human in April.
So cordyceps is even less of a jump than that. And the world has surpassed 17c for the first time in nearly 200,000 years.
This decade. Almost inevitable.
Nature is truely fascinating when you look at it up close.
Just watch the last of us and youtube recommended this 💀💀💀

"What if the planet were to get slighter warmer? The fungus would adapt and force itself to find human hosts and take over the minds of not millions of us but billions of us"

This series is SO DAMN well made. Especially when you watch it on mushrooms, you feel absolutely connected with these animals and it's a beautiful experience.
Planet earth on psychedelics is the shit dude!
i watched it high as a kite on old simple weed and i was in for the journey of my life.
So well filmed! Hauntingly beautiful
How did they find the one ant that was acting weird
yea seriously
They most likely have a team consisting of people with different skills, like one with the ability to observe abnormal behavior in animals such as ants. Most likely they searched in an area where the fungus was dominant and then it was just a matter of time before they could single a weird ant out. Must have taken a long time still, but they dedicate so much time to these programs, it's amazing.
@@vicillicious3205 heck yea it's amazing
Or Maybe, they infected the ant for educational purposes.

It'd be nice if there is a documentary on microscopic level how the fungi hunt, in full HD.

The hardwork of the ants mind blowing .👏👏
So this is the fungus "The last of us" is based on.... Makes sense.
Yes, a mutated Cordyceps fungus that infects humans
It’s literally called cordyceps in the game
@@Jp-bl4vh that is wild! Lol
A human’s immune system is stronger in fighting cordyceps than insects. So don’t worry about living in a video game. But in a couple hundred years, cordyceps can evolve to do the same thing to humans.
Guess that’s why we gotta set stuff on fire.
Some one in a lab might be trying to make the fungi strong enough to infect humans.
